I almost had him recruited by chapter 5 in demo, but it only had 3, dont know. Seems like if want more time with an RO, gotta save them first I guess.

Nah, i remember its near the end. So you should be save… just choose podge when you can choose who to hang out with the next time you’re at the Hog’s throne
Do “side missions” expire if I recruit the next Garou? I recruited Nin, and that made two new options appear in the choice hub: investigate Conrad Merrit and Heinrik. If I recruit Podge/Melodie, do those options disappear?

I joined the Black furies and still Kali is not available because the spirit is weak and cannot gift. I think the black Fury exclusive gift is not Kali, but Hou Yi.

I’ve only unlocked the forest, so I’m not familiar with Kali, but maybe she’s like the Falcon-of-Doors that you need an additional step to unlock her as well (in the Falcon’s case, restoring the statue)?

I only know 3 still. Hesitant to wait for Silent Striders requirements.
Spirits that are permanently unavailable to you (due to being only for wolf-born or only for different moonphases than you, for example) are supposed to disappear from the list once met, to reduce clutter (as they’re meaningless options in that playthrough). I’ve been busy these days, but once I have enough time to play and recruit the other Garou I’ll see what’s what with Kali.
Heavens know I’ve already been annoying Marquis enough, might as well keep at it. XD

No way to ever get those gifts from “those only knew in life”. Its an odd add honestly. Flavorful that I do think of it though.

Yeah, that’s what I meant. That Kali* is perhaps useless or irrelevant, just as the narration says. It doesn’t have any reason to lie to us, so I believe that her gifts cannot be earned by werewolves more than I believe that they can be earned by Black Furies. But yes, please do check it out and let us know! I don’t think I have either the patience or the smarts to do it lol
*her statue in this particular game, not the actual goddess, whom I’m sure is super powerful

You also can never get Whippoorwill’s (who is only for wolf-born Garou), but he and Porcupine are the two “who the FUCK do you think you’re messing with, boy?” spirits of the forest, which let me tell you right now, is NOT what I was expecting when that list also includes wildcat and not one, but TWO bears.
I think Marquis got the gifts from the book and put in the spirits because just because they exist in-universe, regardless of availability, for the same reason he has you meet the spirits instead of just paying points to nab the Gifts: because he’s mad a pro, and if he’s gonna write a W:tA game it’s gonna be the best W:tA game he can write, regardless of needed effort.

Just looked at the code for Kali and it’s not possible to get that gift yet. If anyone wants to see if you can get a spirit, just go to https://www.choiceofgames.com/werewolf-the-apocalypse/book-of-hungry-names/scenes/ and write in the end barrows.txt, woods.txt or urban_blight.txt and search for can_earn_(name of spirit) what shows up will guide you to all the information that you might need and since the variables names are pretty straightforward it’s really easy to understand what means what.

Yea this was pretty rough. once I learned that about him I couldnt really be upset with him over anything, and I never gave him the full tape afterwards.

I should clear up some confusion with Kali: it’s not available yet. All auspices and all tribes receive three Gifts. I wanted to add Kali for the Black Furies but 1) they already have a unique Gift (Hou Yi, the “divine archer” Gift) and 2) coding up Kali quickly become overwhelming. In the 5E Werewolf book (which I trust all of you have purchased and are running with friends in between posts here), Mark of Kali lets you wound someone and track them by scent. The result was that I had to write up these tracking scenes for almost everyone you could wound. I wrote one (extremely cool, I think) scene for the Ashfield chapter, checked the word count, and decided that I wasn’t going to hit my deadline with Kali’s Gift in place.
However, the plan for the second DLC is to increase the Gifts per auspice and Gifts per tribe to 4 each. That’s when I’ll finish writing Kali, as well as some other Gifts that I started but did not finish, like the Hart Wardens’ “Blessed Brew” (the spirot of the Turfside Diner), the Hummingbird Gift, and a few others.

how do you romance melodie? i’ve only been able to romance nin and elton
The main avenue to initiating a romance is on the third of the three “rescue a packmate” storylines, which will always be chapter 5. Make sure you retrieve Melodie not-last so you can talk with her either while checking out Everlite (Podge rescue) or at Hog Throne (Nin rescue). You can also ask her out in the back half of the game, either at the second Hog Throne show or when she’s making brownies after examining the Doctor Vandegrift plates.
I think, however, that I might add an additional romance-initiation option after chapter 5, once I finish hammering out some more bugs. (It sounds like all the ROs are a bit “sneaky” and opportunities can feel few and far between.) But for now: make sure you generally agree with Melodie and keep her from getting too beat up so she’s friendly toward you. Then, when given a choice of characters to work with or hang out with, select Melodie, then choose the fairly obvious “let’s get dinner/let’s go dancing/damb gurl u look fine” options.
This concludes my strategy guiding for the day: back to the bug mines for me.
