Wayhaven Book 4 Discussion Thread

Okay, so the demo is public today. Has anyone else played it yet?

Not yet. Although I didn’t play the last update, so… Has there been any significant change in the story, or are there still the same problems?

No significant changes, though I think the overly descriptive passages have been pared back somewhat. They’re still over-the-top, but there are less of them.

The MC is still a fucking tool. M-mancers are perpetually stuck being Charlie Brown with Mishka as Lucy yanking the football away anytime it looks like M may be catching a clue. There’s still interruption overload. I ran through the A route, just to see, and A acts like a psycho, IMO. The whiplash from the end of b3 to the way they act now is just… ugh. My A-mancer just wants to run away from him, at this point.

An interesting non-spoilery tidbit that pissed me off: if you’re bffs with M, they share part of their history with the MC they haven’t shared with the MC yet. It’s the only romance where the MC gets less info about the LI than the MC who romances them gets.

Edit: Oh, and there’s a “shock and awe” moment at the end of chapter 6 that neither shocked nor awed me. It’s going to end up being a big fat nothing burger. And this comes after the MC hurts the LI with their powers. Needless to say, it’s worse for M than the other three and M has the worst reaction yet again.

Of course, the MC being the useless piece of shit they are doesn’t try to learn to use their powers and just sits around being upset over it. At this point, my MC would just voluntarily walk away from Mason until she either learned to control the powers or found a way to make sure he wasn’t bothered by them.

That sounds horrible. I still can’t believe how the saga is currently doing. I mean, Book 1 and 2 were outstanding, the story as well as the relationships between the LIs…

So glad to know I’ve not missed anything important! I don’t do social media and I am still getting updates from Mischka.

I’ve been following this book series since it came out and it’s so disappointing to read the demo. The only route that I really cared for was M’s but even that at this point isn’t worth it anymore to pay for the book when it does release.

I also have an mc for the A route but that is like licking sand paper (which would be more pleasant than this romance honestly) and of course there is a useless scene where we find out about how A was turned but I’ve literally been told multiple times in the story of details about A and it just feels like repeating just to keep the romance from going anywhere or even a chance for them to make an effort to get to know the mc more because it happens every single time you have a moment alone with them. So my mc really didn’t care at all after hearing the same story again.(oops looks like you should cry in a pillow A)

Plus all the constant things going on without zero downtime (unless you count the “downtime” you get where it just time skips) to actually spend some time with your LI just makes me feel mentally tired reading it. I skipped A LOT of paragraphs in the demo because I just couldn’t be bothered(tried to read them the first time but I was too bored especially the ones with Li-Sar because you can’t even flirt back to actually make the romances a little interesting). I thought that a demo was supposed to entice you and get you excited for the release but this has done the opposite for me. Many of the other people on this thread have done a good job at pointing out the many things wrong with this series so I won’t go on to repeat everything. I just needed to rant after reading that demo.

Has the public release date for July 3rd on patreon happened yet for wayhaven? Can anyone answer my question please.

Its allready happened on the cogdemos site thats what people are currently discussing in this thread. As for patreon no idea since i cant afford it and even if i could i would refuse to do it for this series way to many issues to justify the expense.

It hasn’t been mentioned on Patreon yet. So if you follow her for free on there, you get less information than if you don’t follow her at all?

I enjoyed the update! The only part that didn’t feel as satisfying was each RO’s backstory, it felt like more of the same, with very little new information.

On that note, the MC really needs to stop asking M if they truly don’t remember anything. How many times do they need to hear “no” before they get the message? M has the patience of a saint :smiling_face_with_tear:

I think it has more to do with M’s past than anything else, similar to when the MC hurt them the first time in the forest.

Let’s talk about Rebecca… The one time she decides to be proactive in her kid’s life… that’s what she does? :person_facepalming:But I think we all saw it coming the moment Li-Sar started killing people around town.

hoenstly, playing M’s route is flabbergasting with the way they act completely territorial with the MC while simultaneously refusing to admit and talk about their feelings and never broaching the “relationship” subject. it’s a bit ridiculous at this point, either M is just plain stupid (esp regarding emotional intelligence) or they just don’t care enough abt the MC to be honest with them. i read some time ago that the author plans for the M route to have a big moment in the next book (if I’m not wrong) but until then this is just a ghastly exclusive situationship :sob:

idk, in the past i used to really like N and M (my first romance was A but i just can’t deal with them anymore lol) and i wanted to buy book 4 once it came out but atp i fear i’m just in a sunk cost fallacy loop with this series :(( i think there’s so much potential in the books but the demo ended in such a lackluster way (imo) that idk, i wish the author the best but i’m considering just dropping this series

Huh. If you’re bi, text with Bobby, who is set in-game with bi chars, fucks up.

Number one. No romance route, Li’Sar. What they mostly boil down to is being incredibly invasive and annoying in the best attempt to mimic romance or B1 M - if you do resist, the supposed angle of temptation falls so flat it could crack its face in half on a pavement. There’s nothing they can actually offer as a full romance - their main question seems to be whether you’re willing to sell yourself to them in order to escape a surefire death.

But even that is quite… weak. They’re annoying and powerful and kill people, which somewhat returns B4 to B1’s degree of villain threat, but when you fight them off and resist, there’s nothing actually threatening as a result despite Li’Sar supposedly trying to separate MC from everyone else they care about.. Positive points - team doesn’t get romance scenes and, instead, offers you constant support, there is actually a very interesting plotline with Rebecca who gets front and center trying to save her dying daughter by any means necessary.

good writing!

It feels more visceral and personal, especially with poor relationships - the no-romance route gives full space to Rebecca’s desperation and protectiveness, it actually feels personal, it gives you a reason to actually care about statists villain infects. What doesn’t feel personal and well-written is Li’Sar. They’re bland, persistent and so incredibly boring - I can feel the staleness from the second their no-romance framework kicks in.The main way these relationships are supposed to progress is by MC being a weak-willed pathetic little thing that gives up the second they see them!

romance progression

It’s barely yandere, it’s barely a romance, it’s just nothing - I have thought swapping Li’Sar to a woman may shake off NY bestseller dark romance feel, but it just made it worse.Their only attraction to MC is mostly related to powers - yeah, they say that it’s supposedly MC, but everyone around them is quick to notice that they’re lying. All they boil down to is constantly repeating single made-up word and saying “you will come back to me true that no cap” over, and over, and over again. There are three scenes like that in the first three chapters - their tragic backstory about how their parents died like phoenixes to birth them and that they want to be remembered is more tacked-on than Sin’s one.

The MC could have a little more self-love, in A’s route. The MC can give some cold answers to A and even push A, it’s quite satisfactory, but it’s still not enough.

how many people in town left anyway? because I feel like with every book half of them die

B2 and B3 didn’t have them die - in B2 there was a plague that left them incapacitated, B3 had supernatural ones kidnapped by Trappers. Only Murphy and Li’Sar actually kill people, not leave them in very close-to-death conditions.

i was sure the plague was also deadly lol
idk why

Don’t remember any actual deaths in B2 from it.
