Victoriana (Working Title) (WIP) (Updated 6/20/17)

I’m not saying you won’t have the opportunity later on… :smirk:

Nice! How’d you make it?

I don’t remember the exact process but I used the “cloud” (I believe it’s called that) function on paint.net for some of the basic outlines and just filled in the rest with some formatting. I also used one of the other filters on the program to define the lines.

The dashingdon link should be up! It contains the rough character process and the stats should contain some background!

EDIT: There is a female option, but I have it set off for the moment so I can focus on finishing up the stats page and the first two chapters.

Well technically dragoons are light cavalry. They arent heavily armed and they arent armored and use light infantry tactics when on foot. Not trying to be rude or anything i just like things to be stated correctly but i would love to habe the option of being in either on of those types of units since my knowledge of cavalry is literally only in dragoon regiments thanks to cataphrak and a game called empire total war. I like the way its going and i would honestly love to have the option of a female playthrough. I like being the underdog. Anyways i like where its going and also what most interactive novels like this lack at the moment is the choice in which regiment you go to. If you could give the choice it would be awesome but it probably would take alot of coding. Camt wait for more though

Just flipped through the initial test of the book, and it has a well-coded intro, of course.

A quick suggestion that’s not even minor and less than a simple copy-paste job in the code:
Include the last name “Lee”. You already have the first name “James” in there, which is, although not my actual name, a preferable name to play with these games.

Keep it up, and thanks for committing to making something great

Two things:

One. I love the little nod to Scottish independence if you choose Esterloch, all we need now is to go into battle in Kilts.

Two. Are you sure Positivism is what you’re going for? I assume you’re aiming for Optimism, while positivism is some Scientific Philosophical system.

Optimism is the right word, thanks! I knew something was off.

Yay! That is excellent news! Now that I can play as a girl the only question that remains is can I get a girlfriend?

Once I develop the characters, I’m planning to have romantic options for gay males and females, so yes. The female option will be made available once I finish the first chapter or two.

Just played the demo.

It’s interesting. I can’t wait to see how you develop this story! :grinning:

Since the world that has gender values and social and class distinctions will the game be very different from the male one. Because For the Love of God brother don’t be pressured and by the community. If you’re going to add a female protagonist make sure that reflex your world and you can add a really interesting narrative maybe she could be a spy an archaeologist adventure. She could be a medical doctor, she could be a proto-feminist in your world.

Brother how the hell does he gain a commission so fast?

@Novus I know you never put an finish command at the end but it would be great if you would insert and *ending command at the end of the demo for convenience as it would help to differentiate b/w network errors and game ending

And I think magnetism could be changed to charisma or charm

Commissions are bought and sold in the Royal Army, and each choice you make during the prologue will have a different explanation.

Right now I have the female option as a test, but I’m still considering whether or not to use it. The stories, no matter how much I bend the historical social norms, will be almost drastically different. I know many people on here want the female option to be exactly the same as what happens when you play a male, but his setting may not completely provide that.

I’m currently occupied at a camp but I will be able to update everything, including adding the *ending command (@DUNGEON_MASTER), when I return. That will include adding in the WIP sections on the stat options.

Not me, I couldn’t care less what happens to a male character, I’ll never know the difference anyhow :stuck_out_tongue: I will simply be looking at the female option as the only story there is if you include it.

That’s fine with me. I enjoy seeing differences when I make a male MC and then a female one since it makes even gender choice seem like it matters and it’s not just there to be a cosmetic.

Besides, the more obstacles my MC has in their world, the more satisfying it is when my MC shows up everyone else. :smirk:

Well, that’s assuming that people in the story react negatively to a female.

Time to play and find out.

(Even if they don’t react negatively it would still be interesting to see.)

Do you want us testers to tell you about any typos we may spot?

Definitely. I want to know any mistakes, including code, grammar, and typos.

Even things like apparent plot holes or other things that you may notice are welcome.

Plot holes in the registration office. Lol. The only one I can think of is why didn’t we get to choose our pen?

By the way, just out of curiosity, what font did you use?
