How i imagine my elemental mastery mc killing rattlebag with fire
Damn, I come back when the game is almost done.
Is there still time to post critical feedback, @MahatmaDagon? Seeing as how I am your biggest fan, it would be a shame if I were to completely miss this.
Now, would anyone like to fight me for such a title?
…No?
Thought so.
Edit: This post being flagged was silly. Thanks for the laugh, flagger!
I love to see most people above between hero or anti hero while I played as a villain for one simple reason it’s just more fun because at the end of the day as a villain I can do whatever I want and always win if I do something bad I am a villain so that is normal and if I do something good then I am trying to change either way I win
Wtf? Some journalist bum revealed my characters identity on tv and gave a game over because of something I did earlier in the story. It would have nice if there was a warning. That choice happened a while back.
If you’re talking about Red Harry, then it’s not a game over - the demo just ends there for now.
Yea, that bum.
Okay, that’s good. I just saw that I was kicked out the group and it gave me a game over. It should be more clear. I didn’t know it was the end of the update
Now that I think about it. An option to color our abilities (Elemental and Time) would be nice. At least if it’s something specific we can color.
Now that I think about it… that scene doesn’t make much sense. Why would the MC sneak into a drug den without his uniform on? And why are his teammates acting surprised that MC went into a drug den? They were all aware of it and decided together.
Did your MC kill Jackdaw when you sneaked into his house alone? Then his friends were most likely shocked not at the drug den part, but at the murder part. And the fact that MC went to the drug dealer’s house in his hero uniform is partially what connected his alias to the murder, the broadcast mentioned a drone recording his entrance and it’s not like MC has invisibility powers.
Okay… Yea, I killed him, but I removed all evidence with time powers.
Where’s the connection? And how does that lead to the MCs identity being revealed? Doesn’t make sense.
You were seen breaking into his home, then he disappeared, leaving only some dust (matching his DNA) behind. Harry even says so. @MahatmaDagon mentioned that you’ll be able to talk your way out of it if that’s your first offense though.
damn no coming back ig then
So, Harry broke into the dealer’s house after MC left assuming the worst and searched all over the apartment for dust? Ok. That seems silly, but whatever.
I assume that he has sources that tell him things that may be of interest to him, and besides, it’s his job to snoop for information. The time branch mentions forensic experts finding the ‘sawdust’ too.
As a sidenote, if I may offer some unsolicited advice, you can construct strings like this to skip having to consider all combinations separately:
*temp threat "none"
*temp_array lines 5 "blank"
*temp badThings 0
*temp worthNoticing 0
*if ((propertyDamageWhileDrugged) or (hadPanicAttack))
*set badThings + 1
*if ((killedJackdaw) or (jackdawFire))
*set badThings + 1
*set worthNoticing + 1
*set lines[worthNoticing] "killed Jackdaw"
*if (jackdawFire)
*set lines[worthNoticing + 1] "set his house on fire"
*if (mcExploded)
*set badThings + 1
*set worthNoticing + 1
*set lines[worthNoticing] "murdered the PARENTS agents inside the Hoverhawk"
*if (knockedOutJogger)
*set worthNoticing + 1
*set lines[worthNoticing] "knocked out an innocent jogger"
*if ((haroldPilled = 2) or (haroldPilled = 3))
*set badThings + 1
*set worthNoticing + 1
*set lines[worthNoticing] "caused the death of Mr. Ellis"
*temp i 0
*label makeThreat
*set i + 1
*if (not(lines[i] = "blank"))
*if (i = 1)
*set threat lines[i]
*else
*set threat & "@{(i < worthNoticing) ,| and} ${lines[i]}"
*goto makeThreat
Result: ${threat}
Then if you want to insert something in the middle, you can just increase temp array size accordingly and add another *if branch instead having to adjust everything afterwards.
*temp threat "none"
*temp_array lines 6 "blank"
*temp badThings 0
...
*set lines[worthNoticing] "murdered the PARENTS agents inside the Hoverhawk"
*if (myVariable)
*set worthNoticing + 1
*set lines[worthNoticing] "something else"
*if (knockedOutJogger)
Result: killed Jackdaw, murdered the PARENTS agents inside the Hoverhawk, something else, knocked out an innocent jogger and caused the death of Mr. Ellis
Do you mean the MC’s alias options? They would remain.
I went back to that part, and I really couldn’t find a place to put something like that where it wouldn’t break the flow of the narration. It all happens too fast, and there’s a lot going on. It’ll have to be somewhere else.
It’s not that I’m not too into weapons, it’s that adding them would require tons of work for a game that’s supposed to be done soon. And it’s not just the weapons themselves, but what using them would mean to the narrative.
There’s a famous quote that says “The blade itself incites to deeds of violence." Adding a sword, for example, would make the player have a lot more opportunities to kill or maim people across the game. Which would have to give massive repercussions.
That said, there’s going to be a secret pathway to break into Zweihander’s room with Thelma and get his spare sword for yourself. It’s okay to do that now because the game is nearing its end, and the team can break up at this point.
They haven’t been mentioned yet, and they are definitely not part of the Omega Responders, but I have plans for them. They won’t be heroes, though.
Is there any other name that could be used for something like that? It might be silly of me, but I think “Combat Boots” sound like something players might be inclined to pick simply because they think it might offer some kind of advantage on combat.
Yes, though Flit will always be against you if you keep killing people and getting found out.
I always figured that would be the case, but I’m surprised with how many people picked Enhanced Strength. I thought we would have more speedsters.
You had me confused. Why would that change if you’re working with PARENTS?
Also, just because we’re talking about him: Snorter’s interaction is drastically different if you have Enhanced Senses. I think it’s like, 10k words of content (albeit very branchy).
Good catch! There was a bug related to missing refund points that I had yet to fix, and I think that’s what was causing it.
I remember someone else pointing that out a while back, and me making an annotation about it. I’ll have to check what came out of that; I might have even already fixed it since the version I’m working with is drastically different from the playable one. Either way, thanks for the reports.
It’s not a game over, it’s just the end of the demo. And do you mean that he revealed your secret identity? I don’t think that happens in the demo.
Red Harry specifically mentions forensic experts. He’s been following your tracks, and both he and the cops are investigating the Superdrug and Jackdaw. His superpower is a minor/different form of Enhanced Senses, too, though he disguises it as eidetic memory to make the people he interviews comfortable.
It’s much appreciated. That particular code was made by Morton, but I wouldn’t have known how to make it different, either. As silly as it sounds, I never learned how to do arrays in ChoiceScript, probably because by the time it came out (a couple of years back, I think?) I was already used to spaghetti coding.
Thanks for the very educative example, though. I think I’ll be able to use that from now on.
Army boots? shrug I’m not really sure if there’s anything they’re really called, I’ve just always heard combat boots. I generally go minimal and very practical with the costume; balaclava, turtleneck, cargo pants, belt (enhanced senses is my favourite powerset.) The shoes options don’t really fit with that aesthetic. My character could replace her entire costume at an army surplus store, she’s no real need for TAILOR other than the convenience and better base materials.
Having Derek and all the Dudes around and going in as a team (in my playthrough) put me into a one on one fight with Snorter and no other henchman.
I am playing enhanced senses mostly now. So maybe that was the difference and not that it was a PARENTS run? Previously I’d been playing with the time powers.
(Also, that was a pretty bad joke, I guess. Being fought off with snot is just…gross (offensively so.) )
Yeah, the “me” in the quote was a brain fart, it was supposed to be “that”. Anyway, I was checking and you weren’t the first one to ask for combat boots. I think I’ll just add it.
Yeah, that’s it. Working with PARENTS mostly changes descriptions and dialogues across the demo, like not having to worry about the police when you go out, or being able to use a PARENTS digital badge. The major impact it has so far is that, in a very specific pathway, there’s a scene with a car chase where you go after Jackdaw, he has taken the superdrug, and you can fight him. But I think you need to have sent LB to his house to get to that scene.
YEESS … I mean ahem yes there should be more of us.
This single sentence makes me incredibly excited. Best of luck finishing the game, super hyped for release whenever it may be
