They are teenagers of undisclosed ages
Derek/Multidude is the only one who is 18+
We are still deciding how much money the player should start with, but we can boost it at least for the duration of the demo. I think it’s pretty easy for villainous MCs to get lots of cash, but it is probably a lot harder for those playing heroic characters. Which is something we have to consider when it comes to clothing.
If you choose the option that you are in LB’s show for a gig, the narrative explains that your mentor left you with a secret base and a bunch of crime-fighting resources, but not much money. And you have been living on your own for a while, too, and as a teenager on top of that.
If your mentor is the brooding urban crimefighter whose alter ego is a billionaire (I wonder what was our inspiration for that), there are points in the story where it is mentioned that they spent most of their fortune not only on gadgets and uniforms, but on charity.
It’s our spin on the criticism that Batman is “a billionaire aristocrat who beats up poor people," as this particular mentor eventually realized that just punching the bad guys wasn’t going to solve anything in the long term. You can also trace a parallel with those rich people who announce their plans of not leaving their money to their children, but in this particular case, the mentor at least makes sure the sidekick has a home and access to food.
Another take on that is that this particular mentor, by using money as a weapon, was too busy with their war against crime–and its causes–to fully consider how that might impact their sidekick’s life. It is stated more than once that they are obsessed with their mission.
Then you have the second possible mentor for enhanced physique, who is basically a version of Superman. That one is the kind of person who never accumulated riches because they were too busy helping others. Still, their potential sidekick is, too, with a home and the means to get food.
Next comes the Elemental Mastery mentor, who is basically a major hippie. So no major monetary inheritance here. And, finally, Chronomancer, distant and absent. Not much money from him, either. Not much of anything, really.
I get your point, but it also feels weird to have clothes not cost anything, and it’s one of the few ways you can spend money in the game. I’m not saying we might not change this at some point (it has been discussed before), but so far I think it’s a decent compromise, and we should first try to focus on giving the means to players get money instead of removing the cost altogether.
Also, there will be other opportunities to modify your uniform through the game, in case that wasn’t clear.
Short-sleeved unitard, sleeveless unitard, and long-sleeved unitard are all tested for this purpose, it’s the leotards that are missing, unless there’s some bug. Whatever the case, we’ll add them too. Also, I just noticed all are missing from the upper body check for females–and that some pieces added recently might not be getting considered by these checks.
Thanks for the feedback!
