like a twist on a classic mad scientist idea maybe he/she just wanted a friend

I like the idea of choosing a motivation.

btw the friend thing was a joke but the suggestion of choosing a motive still stands.
so what would you suggest happens after you created your monster.

Maybe like it could start getting out of control and get violent

that’s a bit vague can you explain a bit more.

Ok my spin on the mad scientist is unique but similar to Dr Frankenstein. Ok extremely smart scientist is laughed at and mocked about his idea’s but here’s the turnaround one day the people of the town/village that mocked him start getting attacked by monsters and beasts and the scientist though mocked and yes being quite MAD decide to save them and builds a monster/formula to turn self into monster of own design.

I think that the point of being a mad scientist using SCIENCE is to create monstrosities and not to become one.

Well sometimes u can’t help but become one

Ninety points to blackheart ever heard of dr jekyll.

good point but dr jekyll and mr hyde could be a different game altogether

and that is included in the list as Hyde

Ok point taken but my scientist would still be himself and in complete control when changed.

well then if the scientist was in control of his transformations it would be pretty much the same as the mad scientist game.

How about giving the player partial control when transformed? Higher willpower can mean more control of oneself as their other self.

or you could give no control on one side and being the other you have to solve/deal with what your other side has done e.g dead body’s damage and other problems.

Ok from the point of dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde he was getting addicted to being the other persona and it started changing even without the potion he started changing so he stopped being able to control it

The other persona was like its own living thing just inside another’s mind

The thing about Hyde is that he allows Jekyll to indulge in his darker impulses, the same as how the Hulk allows Bruce Banner to release his anger.

I’m thinking that making transforming a choice could lead to interesting dillema. Perhaps the formula, or whatever catalyses the transformation, leads to ill health? Perhaps the other self is wanted by the authorities and it gets too dangerous to transform?

Or you can simulate the other persona by having the narrative and choice reflect that. An example could be the Scientist needing certain things to stabilise the formula. Then next scene, the change. Now Hyde MUST acquire that ingredient, because none of the choices allow the player to abort. Then the deed is done, a mess is made, and the Scientist will have to figure out how to cover it up.

I think it would also be fun to allow players to define the skillset of the other persona. If they want to be the hulking brute in Van Helsing? They can. If they want to be a diabolically suave socialite, they can. How about gravity-defying acrobatics to get to hard-to-reach places so that you may steal things?

That idea is good but now u brought in another game that could be done van helsing

The Van Helsing family could have a presence throughout the series.
