United We Stand - Political WIP

amazing job. I love how the backround impacts things.
Commie aristocrat “Awfully rude of them” after just being punched made me smile, not to mention Communist Aristocrat is now my canon Solidarity character.

I hopes the pace pickups on the work on this game throught  im completely hyped. This just might be start of Great series kinda like Cataphraks.

Just to double check, does the new link work for everyone? And if so, could someone change the thread name back, just to get rid of the new link bit.

I’m on it!

Pace… hmm, not so confident about that one. Glad you’re excited though. Obviously it would be lovely if it was anywhere near the calibre of cataphraks games…

It works…and…done.

Hey, i found a little tad of a spelling error.

Shouldn’t it be: "Well you’ve got me." Instead of “We’ll” ?

Can you give us an update on what’s been going on? I’m still very interested to see how this is panning out.

Unfortunately I haven’t done any more work on the game, as I think I mentioned in passing earlier, I’m currently doing teacher training so don’t have too much free time. I’m hoping in the christmas holidays to complete the second chapter from the fascist side. I know this is obviously frustrating for you all but unfortunately that’s the best I can do save working during my evenings and weekends which to be honest I like to give myself off.
I know it’s a long way off but next summer will be my big opportunity to get lots done and potentially finish the game. So I suppose you’ll have to wait!

It isn’t frustating in any way. The game is turning out great, that is all that us to be buyers can ask for. Take your time. Your story, your work, your right to work when you can\can’t. Our only right is to support this quest of yours.

Hi all, just a quick update…
I haven’t had the chance to do much writing but from time to time I do a bit of planning and plotting. Below is an updated romance options matrix for left and right. As you can see I’ve added a whole lot more choices.
I’ll just write a few lines about the characters who have not yet been encountered in the story or mentioned on the stats page:
Left
-Lou- American actress in the country to make a film (plotline ensues)
-Isabel- leftwing volunteer military nurse
-Anton- French diplomat in Moravia
-Geoffrey- Dashing photo-journalist

Right
-Lady Lydia- aristocrat and National Bloc MP
-Alessandra- diplomatic attache for the Italian fascist regime

I’m really intrigued by the new leftist gay romance. Not so excited about the straight options tbh but I could be surprised. The lesbians got all the interesting girls so far so I might just end up doing a queer playtrough XD

This was a surprisingly good demo. I usually get turned off when I hear “political game,” but this, however, had enough action and such good writing I just couldn’t help but enjoy. This seems like my kind of “political,” where you pick sides and engage in conversations about the such, but it reminds me of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate for some odd reason. I loved beating up my Communist pursuers even though I needed to be rescued at the end, and I loved capturing pubs and assassinating paramilitaries. Maybe its the fact that even though this is a political game, your character still isn’t a helpless congressman like in Congresswolf. You can actually fight (mostly), and can actually participate in the dirty work, the legitimate combat that is going on in the background of this marvelous setting that is admittedly well established. I loved the pacing, and appreciated the little extra touches here and there such as the fancy font, page style, and the few images I encountered that seemed well drawn, if they were of your creation.

This is my first ever review. I give this five stars out of four. I pray this gets completed, sir.

Well the girls got the dashing journalist.

Both guys are already too similar to my own mc. For starters they’re both fellow Solidarity MP’s (imo romancing your direct colleagues isn’t the smartest thing to do) and they both embody aspects of the personality my mc already got, Franz has the same lower class background and Anton has the intellect and the intellectualism (though more like wannabe intellectualism in my mc’s case, considering his background).

So I’ll join your commisserations @cyanide. Too bad the foreign actress isn’t an actor. :disappointed:

Tbh its the actor thing that is keeping me away. I dont feel like I will enjoy this character very much for some reasons. Like I said I might be completely wrong but I just got bad vibes. Both females RO are pretty high socialy speaking and its a big turn off for me. One is a liberal MP and the other is an american actress sooooo yeah. Doesnt get along well with my anti aristocracy ex aristocrat. He doesnt want to get out of the high class just to marry back in.

The guy though. Baoowing boi. Might still depend but already feel better than Franz.

Well for all we know he could be an ex-aristo too, but like I said my main objection is that they’re both fellow Solidarity mp’s and conceptually I’d like some occasions where my mc doesn’t have to “talk shop” with the guy he maybe loves.
Considering Anton was able to afford an education he’s likely to be at least middle class.

Whereas I feel that both the actor and the journalist would open up some interesting possibilities, personally as well as professionally.
Also the main reason why my mc doesn’t fool around with Franz is that the kid feels too much like his own protege.

Well middle class still isnt high class so that okay with me. And hey ex aristo is still a thousand time more attractive than a liberal and an actor. At least he recognise that his lifestyle was stupid and shouldnt be encouraged. The other two not as much. At least at first glance. We still dont know the actor but considering she’s moving to another continent to shoot a movie she’s probably not some starving actress and probably can afford luxury wich goes against my MC who is very anti-capitalism. Both girls are some representation of the lifestyle he despise.

I’m a bit in the same situation with Franz. He’s a good buddy and I will never be attracted to a buff guy so we’re just going to platonicaly kick fascists *ss.

Fair enough, I do that whole thing with my XoR mc too (who really is a crusader against what he perceives as “decadence”), after all. In this game though my mc probably knows enough to know that at least working with and co-opting the middle classes into the broader Democratic Socialist ideals and hopefully eventual state system too is vital to its success and he probably won’t reject any of the aristo’s who see the light, even partially either.
Ever since playing servant to that rich family in the back-story he may actually be a bit curious about what that world looks like from the inside too, not that he would ever admit it.
But do remember that he likely does buy into some form of the progressive technological vision of the 1920’s that promised us all one day work weeks and technologically enabled lives of luxury by the year 2000 or so and probably has shades of both the futurist and the technocrat too.

@ShadowForce
Thank you very much sir, really appreciate the feedback, I will do my very best to complete it!

@cyanide @idonotlikeusernames
What an interesting discussion. Can’t believe my class consciousness temporarily left me and I genuinely didn’t think of giving each section a selection of ROs from different classes…
A simple solution to giving a male player a working class gal option (a shocking oversight on my part) would be to make Isabel bi-sexual. Could be a goer that one because the other 2 in that column (Kant + Lou) are more sort of girl girls, if you take my meaning, whereas Isabel is a bit more androgynous, so it would be a nice contrast.

Also, it was late last night when I uploaded this (that’s my excuse) so I hadn’t remembered exactly all the notes for the characters i’d devised. Most pertinently, Anton was never intended to be a Solidarity MP (and well done @idonotlikeusernames for pointing out the similarity to Franz) but a French representative, either of the government or of the french left, properly the latter. So yeah, what do yous think of that idea?

Well a suave French diplomat would probably be more interesting to my mc (who has likely never even left his tiny country, perhaps not even the city in his life) than a French socialist/communist, since him being a diplomat in that era also means he’s likely at least French upper-middle if not outright upper-class.
Plus the fact that most diplomats who were any good in that era lived what effectively was an upper-class lifestyle. After all champagne and (fancy) parties were the lubricants of international diplomacy both then and now.

I would also be satisfied if you simply flip the gender of the American actor, the really exotic foreigner to my mc.

What I meant to ask was, will we be participating in these psychical events through the entirety of the game? The “ground war” stuff, capturing/destroying properties, assassinating certain individuals? Because if so, I’ve no need for a good romance. Although I liked the sound of the American actress. Can you keep her?

Add a pan/bisexual androginous character and I will forever love you. We dont have nearly enough of those.
