Twisted Scene (WIP), an 80s Liverpool Music Scene Story -- Chapter 4 Updated 06-15-23

I think mc canonically likes/listens to many genrea of music no matter what they play (it’s just punk that they don’t like).

Loved the update

I really like to read stories related to music - especially the ones that involve the creation process of albums - so this wip was such a good surprise! I like all the characters already, and it’s nice to see how passionate the MC can be when singing. I can’t wait to see they finishing/releasing their first album, and hopefully by that time I’ll have managed to find decent names for the songs :')

Also, some bugs I found:

Summary

After the conversation with Catherine if you choose ‘thanks, I’ll keep that in mind’ the response for another option also appears

My MC was in the middle of the dance floor and the band had already been introduced but I got a different version of the same scene in the next page

This part seens incomplet? (or maybe the following text should be in the same paragraph?)

Thanks for playing! Nice to know that you enjoyed it!

You’re a lifesaver! It should be alright now.

It’s not letting me insert an image into my reply, but I found a bug when you choose Paul’s/Paula’s gender that says
chapter1 line 769: Non-existent variable ‘paul_man’

How does he sleep at night?

That’s a new variable that I put in! Somehow I forgot to add it to the startup, what a fatal mistake. It should be fixed now, thank you so much.

Does it matter what tempo I choose for a song? I’m never sure which would be best.

Off the top of my head i havent noticed it mattering the main thing is to go with your style of singing and you should be fine. Basiaccly if your passionate the choose the options that go that way if your focused then choose those options.

My new favorite WIP! Fantastic job. Really love seeing a unique game like this. 80s music is one of my great loves.

I found this game while scrolling through dashingdon and loved it. I don’t know much about post-punk, new wave, or indie rock but that didn’t stop me from being hooked to this wip the whole time I read it. I’ll be keeping an eye on this one

First I wanted to say that I really like the story so far. As someone who really likes both likes post-punk and indie, it’s good to see a WIP where those are two out of three options for what musical style for your band to have. I also like that making songs and performing this is an important part of the WIP, instead of the focus being mainly on being famous and/or acclaimed. The NPCs are also interesting.

However I did notice one mistake you seem to have made at least of couple of times and that is switching around silent and silence. Silence is the noun, and silent is the adjective. A person is silent, not silence and in the same way you’re asking for silence, not silent.

And when giving examples of bands in the genres you could choose for your band, I noticed that you used Joy Division and The Cure as examples of post punk bands. While I think Joy Division is a good example of a post punk band, I’m not so sure about using The Cure as the second example. Sure, they are famous enough that most players/readers will know about them and what they sound like. But, while most of their three-five earliest album can probably be considered to be post punk albums, many of their songs and albums after that are much closer to indie than post punk. Also post punk included both the dark and gloomy style played by Joy Division and early Cure and more noisy funk/dub-influenced and often more explicitly political style of which bands like Gang of Four, P.I.L and Pop Group were exponents. And since that particular strand of post punk got a revival in the 00’s, I do think quite a few people now know about at least Gang of Four and/or P.I.L. Having one of those bands as one of the examples of post punk bands would be a good way of showing that post punk weren’t just dark and gloomy bands like Joy Division but also more noisy and groove-based bands like Gang of Four. So I’m hoping that you’d consider replacing The Cure with either Gang of Four or P.I.L as one of your two examples of post punk bands.

@BeadyEye These choices at this scene, are backwards…

When you click ‘dead serious’ it goes on to say you’re singing in a sweet tone.

When you click ‘sweet’ it says your tone is serious.

Interestingly, what he did sounds less like a normal backing vocal and more like an attempt to double his vocal with mine later on. And…why not, I guess? It’s been done anyway, so might as well use it.

I shrug it off and set my mind to get on with the vocals so that we can move to record another song for the day.

“Alright, let’s do it again.” I readjust the headphone on my ears and ready myself. Unlike Rollie, Chris doesn’t give so much of a cue and out of nowhere the backing track plays on my headphone.

The opening chord sequence of Cambions Cry is clear for me to hear, and it teleports me back to that day when this song just popped up inside my head when we were doing the seemingly endless jam session.

Tom asked me about how I should put some specific emotion onto the way I sang the song then. But do I still sing it the same way after over a month?

I sing it in a dead serious tone.
I sing it in a sweet tone.

I was trying to romance Gia so much, wandering where was the options with romance with him and then i came here and discover he is F!MC only:sob::sob: LOL

So I noticed quite a few typos and sentences that don’t make sense. Idk if you want me to post them here or not.

That being said, I love “Gia” and the setting and time is just my thing. I adore the 80s era of music. Also the personality checks shaping the debut album is a really cool feature :slightly_smiling_face:

Same. I like this WIP a lot, but G is the only RO I’m interested in. Sadly, he is not romanceable for me, so this WIP becomes a pass. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I want to be rejected by straight dudes, I can just walk outside. No need for it when I’m trying for a bit of escapism.

No offense, but then don’t try and romance the RO not into you. It says in the original post about the ROs, if you didn’t read it that’s on you.

I get it, that’s why it’s respectfully a pass. This is meant as constructive feedback and not a jab. I think the writing is great, I read the limitations and knew going into it not all ROs would be available, but wanted to give it a try. Just turns out g was the only one that caught my eye.
