Hey, uh, I have the right stats to win the tournament, (60 power of friendship and 40 power of mind) but I keep losing to Ryu? I know the guild says to use your highest and then second highest stat to beat him but I can’t figure out how punches or kicks or whatever else tie to my stats…
The inital choices in the fight against Ryu do not matter.
You’ll get to this set of choices:
[Resist him.] (power of self)
[Talk to him.] (power of friendship)
[Out-think him.] (power of mind)
[Just give up.]
You of course do not want to give up.
Each of the other three choices will lead to another set of two choices where you have to choose your second highest stat.
In your case, you’ll first want to [Talk to him.] Then choose [I think I understand your problem.]
That should lead to you winning the fight.

Both need you to try to talk your way into the compound (Episode 1). For That Phone Thing, claim to be lost and call Sammy (needs reasonable Power of Friendship); for Clownin’ Around, try to apply for an internship and lie on the form (needs good Power of Mind).
Huh. 
I just realised that the GRF almost certainly monitor their phone calls… Oh well, Sammy was probably already on a government watchlist…
