To the City of the Clouds

Affairs of the court? ;o, if that’s a game I haven’t played it, is it here on the site? o.o

Oh and it was kinda short, I enjoyed it though, wasn’t bad xD, I’ve played it through a couple times to see the different stuff you can do

Since Eerie Estate Agent and Star Captain, I’ve become more cautious of new titles from CoG because for sometime now, stories are becoming more short, shallow and underdeveloped. I don’t mean to be overly negative because I’m a fan of CoG and even though, I didn’t like some games I’ve paid for them to be supportive. But the demo of City of the Clouds was kinda a joke on me by saying “Beware the demo ends with a cliffhanger!” when it was not the case. After demo, i was like “Whaaaaa?” It felt like you’re trying too much in such short time.

I liked this game much better than Heroes Rise and a little bit better than Star Captain.

Hey, @drcynic17 make sure to rate it highly on the appstore!

It seems to be the worst COG I played so far, but it’s not too bad… I guess. But I would have bought Eerie Estate Agent instead if I knew it was this bad. Too shallow for my tastes, and the stats are mainly useless except for one specific scene each.

I think a lot of commenters give this game too little credit. Having spent significant time in rural Latin America, I found the rural Columbia scenes to be very strong (especially the bus!) and the gradual transition from “civilized” world to jungle and back the best part of the game. (Maybe what I like is the tone shift that so bothered @Farside.) The sexual content I don’t mind, as it’s easy to bypass if you don’t want to play that, and the second sex scene in the research camp is almost touching.

[real spoilers start here]

It does fall short in a few ways. There are few “NPC” characters with real depth. Having played thru several times, I’m not sure what some of the attributes (especially “cultural sensitivity”) mean. If you say you want the golden mask to hang in a museum, you’re not told until after you decide to take it that your taking it makes it forever ineligible to be in a museum. And there seems to be a logic glitch in that your GPS device is said to be on Nestor’s belt, but you miraculously get it back by trying to grab his AK-47, even if you don’t get the AK-47.

It’s not Choice of Broadsides. But when I feel like a game that doesn’t demand total concentration, it fills the bill.

there is one thing that seems very weird the free games are better than the ones that we pay for

Ha! That’s actually rather true.

There’s something wrong with my game. I played it a few times, and now it’s frozen. It won’t load. Any solutions?

Delete and reinstall?

I loved it. I played through it quite a few times, and it was neat to see how different I could make things. It was worth every cent to me. I might be biased though, having a degree in Anthropology and all…

@Saerise first person who like this game i know if you like this thing you certainly could lover more quality products. ( basically all the rest of game made free included)

@Saerise When I try to explain to people why the game did so poorly, I point out that it’s target demographic is “humanities grad students”.

If you have a degree–especially a grad degree–in the humanities, you’ll find To The City hilarious. Unfortunately, we have yet to really penetrate that particular market.

Haven’t played through this game in a while but I did enjoy it. It was flawed but I certainly found it entertaining.

I agree with most people in saying that it was short and I believe it has a lot more potential, it felt like it was cut short. Having a relationship in the game also seems rather shallow, they’re mentioned a few times and seems somewhat unnecessary (but I guess it makes sense with your character developement…)

I have played through multiple times and I did enjoy it. And it is worth it if you ask me… probably would’ve used that money to buy a coffee which when you put it in that perspective I rather use that money to support someone who put their time and effort into this than to just satisfy by morning urges xD

I’m not a grad student but I still enjoyed it. It was short, but only compared to other COG games. At 2.99, that’s practically free.

im a humanity degree well i think i am i finish my laws degree and in Spain is consider a humanity type career and don’t enjoy the game short repetitive with a bad taste humor and boring as hell.

Also with a not very good ending it wasn’t expensive and its not the worst choice adventure style game app i try hell the app market its full of horrible ones. but its clearly with a lot of difference the worst choice of games app or wip i ever played.

Yeah, I thought it was decent, fairly humorous and I liked the glimpse into academia and the sorta grad student life. There was a neat contrast between the threat of the real-world FARC and the more supernatural elements. Shortness was my biggest problem, particularly when you’re at the temple itself, felt like that should have been expanded

This game has in my opinion some of the greatest potential of any of the cogs but it has been completely wasted. the game was way to short. I mean the demo itself was probably more than half of the actual game itself!
