The Wayhaven Chronicles General Discussion (SPOILER FREE FOR BOOK THREE!)

Yea, but imagine Murphy saying this to MC:

Charlotte and Mewsly as well now

00000000001

Some...other MCs...

scared-and-horny

MCs with some common sense left

Murphy is an incredibly compelling villain. Legit, some of his lines and scenes sent shivers down my spine (when he grabs the MC in the parking lot scene with M? A+, fantastically creepy), and for me that’s where the appeal lies. Which, clearly isn’t for everyone and it shouldn’t have to be! Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, but I can definitely see where @Mewsly and @rose-court are coming from (and i’m writing this post to, hopefully maybe shed some light on my reasoning? or maybe just cause i like hearing my own voice both are possible)

Murphy hits this balance between unsettlingly creepy, arrogant and entitled (which I think might be where @Okami-Nora finds bobby and murphy similar? they both think they are better than you, albeit in markedly different ways and with markedly different outcomes), and genuinely excited scientist. From the way he talks to MC and interacts with them it’s clear he doesn’t see them as an equal (doesn’t see any humans as equal), but while he casually dehumanises you he still does it with a kind of care and compassion (see his injection scene if you didn’t struggle beforehand, he sounds genuinely apologetic about having to hurt you). Add into this the way he keeps touching MC very casually, like it’s nbd (the wrist touch at the hospital, brushing your hair out of your face at the warehouse, that kinda thing), and it’s a delicious cocktail of terrible no good vibes that can be incredibly attractive. (I… may or may not have a fic in the works for my detective Tanwen where UB is late in finding the warehouse and it’s just Bad™ all around)

don’t get me wrong, most my detectives hate his guts (tanwen saw his kindness and his care, cause she didn’t struggle, and cause she’s far too naive for her own good she believes because of this that there’s still some good in him and maybe she could’ve talked him out of it!), but i as reader can certainly enjoy a well-written villain~

My MC was a sarcastic little sh!t to him and i loved it!

I usually like villains a lot. Not all of them, but a good part of them. I don’t really find them hot, but rather intriguing and compelling.

Loki is one of my favourite villains. I kinda admire his cunning and i love the whole “tortured soul” kinda thing. (i like it when they hurt inside)

I like Murphy a lot beacuse of the disturbing vibes he gives :slightly_smiling_face:

And if you got this far, i promise i’m fairly normal!

if you’re interested i could always dm you a sneak peek (aka what i’ve got so far cause it’s not that much yet) so you can see if it’s your speed~ (and if i can take your ‘you too’ as confirmation that you are also working on such a fic, please know that i for one am v excited to read it :ok_hand:)

He’s definitely a well-written villain.

@Mewsly, we love you. I would totally fight a vampire for you. (I was just teasing earlier; I’m sorry for starting this discussion.)

Tbh, I usually always fall for the villian, specially if you can be evil together haha.

But with Wayhaven… Wayhaven feels more personal, for putting it into words. With other games is easy to play the evil path because is an obvious fantasy world, even if it’s rather dark and serious.

Also, something very important to me with my evil characters is that, of they are romancing someone, they are evil together, but not against each other. I love it when two terrible people love each other deeply, work as a team, respect each other and all that stuff. With Murphy… At best you could have been hia favourite pet, always inferior, and for that only I must take him down :joy:

I always thought I was the weird one for not being attracted to villains. I only liked Loki after he turned into a good guy, Captain America is my favorite avenger. Liked Obi wan kenobi from the Star Wars prequels, no interest in darth maul or anakin/darth Vader. Liked Robin/Nightwing not any of the Batman villains including Jason Todd/Red Hood.

My tastes are all boring and safe, I like all the goody two shoes lol.

You guys are all very smart, thoughtful, and sweet, I want you all to know that. And as interesting as Murphy is Sera answered some questions and I need to highlight my favorite

MC: I’m leaving Wayhaven.
A, N, and F: various stages of confusion and sadness
M: Cool, let me grab my shit.

I like that one too. The others are all “we have to stay here because the Agency told us to” and M is just “Bon voyage!” Considering they hate travel, it’s pretty big thing for them. I guess even laziness won’t get in their way.

Just imagine if the MC was, like, just going away for the weekend or something. A and F are very upset, M is ready to go, and N is the only one who’s like “wait, where are you going?”

Imagine the MC just trying to invite their RO on a little trip.

MC: I’m thinking of getting out of Wayhaven-
F: hugs onto them NO DONT LEAVE ME

Now I’m imagining all sorts of scenarios where F will misunderstand and think MC is leaving them.

MC: I need to go—
F: NO WAIT I CAN BE BETTER
MC: I’m just going to the bathroom?

To be fair, I think it’s the law that vampires must be dramatic or die. Have you ever met a chill vampire? Even N has their moments (“To keep things in human imaginations–” we get it, you personally know Edgar Allen Poe, lol.)

When you really think about it… F is kind of the chillest of all of them. Which is saying a lot. N seems to be constantly low-key stressed because of the other three such a mom, A is… A, and M can’t even sit down for 75% of the game.

Then you got F who takes one look at the MC and is like “yep, I like this person” and is instantly comfortable with them.

You mean Nat/Nate “I miss humanity” Sewell?

guys I almost forgot N’s real last name and wrote Suavewell, help

Poor N is like that one friends when you play DnD who just wants to finish the campaign, so they get stuck reigning in F (who wants to investigate and wander off the time), A (who tries to fight all the monsters) and M (who barely participates).

The worst part of it would be N would be the DM and let me tell you a thing, it’s hard being the DM when your players don’t take your carefully crafted campaign seriously! All DnD playing MCs need to get in there and SAVE THEM!

I feel that. I forgot about this ask, and this is so much worse. Poor, poor, N.

What’s worse is that Zoe would just mess around and egg Farah on, and Emma would be too shy to force Morgan back on track.
