Honestly, no one has as good a route in B3 as M. Like it’s not even close haha. But I think B4 might be A’s time to shine, and maybe N.
However, I did enjoy F in B3 - they’re always lovely as long as you have an MC that vibes with them. For drama though, you probably want N or A’s routes.
It is cute fluff, though. Honestly, I expected more actual romance and maybe some time alone with the LI instead of just short “moments” in between mission stuff and downtime that is wasted doing nothing (or spent with Tina/Verda), but it’s Wayhaven, so… you get “moments”.
If you’re in the mood for short fluff, you’d probably like it. I’ve only played M and A’s paths, and they’re pretty much spot on for b3. And given that b4 will probably be mostly angst and separation–at least for M–it may be nice to have something to go back to that isn’t a huge suckfest.
As far as the price, I honestly don’t think it would be worth $6.50, which is just over half of what b3 cost (and even more than a lot of games on itch that are longer, more in depth, and have more LI scenes). It’s definitely nowhere near half as much content as b3, and the romantic scenes (cute as they were) felt mostly like b3 AU retreads. I think there was one or two shockers in there–one about the MC’s childhood and another moment where M was… perfect. The rest, we’ve already seen and done, just in a different setting.
That’s why I said, for those who want it, they’d be better off joining the $5 tier for a month to grab the game and anything else on Patreon they want to read. That would at least get you your money’s worth and then some.
I’m wondering if it’ll mostly be flavor text changes for MC’s established dialogue and some retconning or foreshadowing for overall plot cohesion. I went back to replay Book 1 for one of my more serious and stoic MCs as established in the later books, and it was the one with the most personality inconsistency --which would make sense now that the author has gotten more experience in writing IF and has a better idea of where the general plot will be going. But that’s just my speculation. I really like some of the more suspenseful/horrific descriptions in Book 1 with Murphy, so I hope that won’t be changed.
Update this week… looks like we will get the first demo released sometime before the end of next year. Along with some “amazing” things that are planned…
Meanwhile, we already have demos for sequels to games that were released at the same time as Wayhaven. It seems that the Holiday special has pushed B4 far down the line. As lovely as it was, it’s a shame to have to wait almost another full year for a demo, but alas.
I don’t think Holiday Magic had much to do with it really. According to weekly updates, the months after release were mostly spent on planning and patreon content, of course. Holiday Magic seemed to only be 1.5ish months of development time.
Every writer has their different process and speeds and I think patreon content definitely takes a lot of time too.
Maybe it will be a snot demon that gives everyone a bad cold… but he doesn’t really mean to do it, he can’t help it and just needs some sudafed. The Agency, unfortunately, can’t get sudeafed (after all, you can make meth with it), so the MC has to go do the local drugstore to buy it and save the town!
An edgy fallen angel who wants to kill everyone Detective knows and loves, but gets insanely long PoVs about how him wanting to kill everyone is simply a reflection of his deep pain and strong mangst!
Has Falk been living in anyone else’s head rent free since Book 2?? I’m sitting here contemplating playing all three books, Again- and all sudden the B2 Falk interactions started flashing in my mind. Specifically, when we realized “maybe in another life”.
Falk will never leave my mind. He has me in A Chokehold…A Headlock… A Gotdamn Wedgie!!
