The Wayhaven Chronicles General Discussion (SPOILER FREE FOR BOOK THREE!)

So the Patreon game dropped today. Even if I was halfway interested in playing, I’m not on desktop at the moment.

I’ve been slammed the last couple of days and not feeling that well, but I did download the Christmas game this morning and played in between crap I had to do for work. Only Mason’s path.

Non-spoilery, non-opinion description: It’s basically a single mission. There are “moments” with M, like you’d get in the regular game, with no real quality time. There is a sweet scene at the end that is actually longer. Before that, everything is like 30 seconds of moment that is either interrupted or in the middle of a mission-related thing.

The plot is cute. UB basically acts like UB. If your MC is bffs with A, that’s not considered and A is about how they’d act with their least favorite team member. N is judgmental as usual, and F is F (though only one instance of prodding M about MC). The “romance” is probably set around chapter 12-14 of b3. M is still stupid, but is sweet.

I actually don’t have a good read on how long the game is because it was done between other things, but it took about an hour and a half with all the other stuff I was doing. There are a lot of overly flowery descriptions of scenery, as you would expect, so if you skip that, it’ll be even faster.

If anyone not on Patreon wants my actual opinion on it, or some spoilers so you can decide if you want to buy it or not, let me know and I’ll either post it here and blur it or you can PM me and I’ll do it there. Will probably be later, because I am still slammed with work and still feel like crap.

So, essentially like B1 all over again where every single moment between MC and Bravos was interrupted?

There is one moment that isn’t interrupted or rushed, at the very end. The rest? Sometimes it’s UB interrupting, other times it’s just “we have to hurry because of mission!”

Looking at it again, the game is basically like chapter 14 of b3 (going to help M with their crystal), right down to a weak M scene, a hand holding moment the MC initiates (not a choice), and a moment where M is stupid and doesn’t understand or whatever.

Later, I’ll run through the others, just so I can have some idea of how they go (if I can tolerate N’s without wanting to strangle him, anyway–F was less obnoxious in this game).

Edited to add a bit of a spoiler… you get a scene where you have to spend the day with Verda or Tina. You get more time with them than you do alone with M, really, though M shows up at the end and you get in the car and leave.

I call it now that A and N have more scenes and their interrupts are more sensible. Screenshot this tweet, I’m sure I’ll be right.

I just finished the dlc and ran through all four main routes this morning. I don’t play the LT so I can’t comment on that.

First off: everyone has the same amount of scenes! And they’re about the same in length. There’s just slight variations to the overall “formula”. For example, you might go to a specific location with one LI but a different one with another.

Anyway, my review: I honestly really enjoyed it. I was expecting a bite sized bit of holiday vibes and I think it delivered on that. It’s short, cute and fluffy. Definitely agree that it reads as sort of mid Book 3 for all the LIs. And yeah, there’s lots of moments with the LIs interspersed rather than tons of alone time. So pretty similar to the typical Wayhaven formula. Honestly, at this point, I think UB has a valid case to sue the Agency for forcing them to work overtime all the time lmao.

I think it was a tiny bit of fun that fits the season, definitely nothing to rush to get if you can’t spare the $5 USD - and you won’t be missing out on anything if you don’t get it. But it was cute and festive and I liked it personally  M is my overall favorite and I’m biased and can admit I always have the most fun on their path, but I liked everyone’s routes in this one.

Need more carpool karaoke with M. This was basically us on the way to the circus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddpx0JLOH6o

So as an A-mancer (yes I’m wearing my clown hat lmao) is it worth buying?? Did anyone play through their route? I also romance M with my second mc but I want to hear about A’s scenes if any in the dlc as there’s no mention of them.

Don’t let my bias discourage anyone lol, I love all the ROs and they all shine here.

In my opinion, the dlc is worth it no matter who you romance. I enjoyed A’s path a loooot. It was really sweet and soft. Everyone had equally good paths in this DLC, but personally - M & A were the stand outs for me. So you’ll really enjoy it I think, I don’t want to spoil anything because trust me, you wanna go in blind, so I’ll give kinda vague hints of what to expect?

It’s a very domestic DLC. A lot of time surrounding Christmas themed shenanigans and locations with the ROs and the ROs showing care towards the MC in their own ways. And a heart warming subplot in the background that’s just about the MC specifically

I just ran through the entirety of Adam’s route to see how it went (I had tried once and got bored with the stuttering breaths, “almosts”, and typical longing looks :tm: .

After playing it, I can say it’s reminiscent of b3!Adam, without the gut punch at the end. So if you loved A in b3, you’d love this.

That said, the game is $6.49 USD. If you’re on the $5 tier, you get the game for “free”, as well as a month to comb through all of the Patreon content and read/grab whatever you wish.

I’m sure it’s intentional (and a smart marketing ploy), but it would be far more beneficial (and cost effective) to join Patreon for a month than to buy the game outright. You can download the game if you’re on Patreon, so it’ll be yours to keep.

Edited to add:

If you go for the $10 tier, you’ll get the epilogues as well. They will be scenarios, not playable DLC.

Has there been any word on what the epilogues really entail? I saw them mentioned on tumblr but I’m unsure what to expect. I don’t think we even have a release date for them.

Nope, she hasn’t said what they’ll entail, just the below:

Our $10+ Patrons will be treated to exclusive epilogues that continue the fluffy storyline of Holiday Magic!

I’m not expecting too much, since they’re just scenarios. The scenarios are typically a few hundred words, at most, save for a couple of times she really seemed to get into them and make them longer.

And no, there’s no release date, either. Same for the maps that the $20 tier is getting.

Good to know. For anyone that hasn’t gotten the patreon yet for the DLC, it might be worth it to hold off until there’s more info on those.

As soon as there’s any info about the epilogues on Patreon, I’ll post it over here if it doesn’t go up on tumblr first. I just hate to see anyone drop more money on the game itself, when you can get the game and other content for a one-month subscription on Patreon.

Do we get to celebrate Christmas with Unit B?

Spoilers…

The story stops just after midnight on Christmas Day (so Christmas Eve… midnight… Merry Christmas… end).

But midnight during New Year (we don’t celebrate Christmas here that often, so it’s New Year) is the best part of the entire thing! I hoped we’d get to see how Bravos react to human traditions.

Normally. Like, three of them were human for a considerable amount of time, and even F, who was never human, has been in the human world amidst human traditions in the facility for years now. Christmas is not a shiny new thing for them.

AND the culture they are immersed in is western culture. These are not alien individuals with exotic outlooks and strange traditions (compare and constrast with the ROs in the now-defunct Shadow Society, who ARE and are mystified and awed by, say, the custom of handshaking). The Bravos are just regular-ass people, except dumber.

I finally played the Holidays Special and it was lovely. A’s route was everything. For all my complaints about that vampire’s indecisive ass, I always fall right back for them harder each time.

I don’t think any A-mancer will be disappointed.

Just about to play through my first go at B3 since the demo and will be starting again. So far I’m reaching for the love triangle for the most drama because I’m evil, lol.

Other than the love for B3 M, what is everybody else’s bias choice for the third book? And why?
