The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Three (WIP -FINAL DEMO)

I generally can’t handle LT angst. I think I got like… halfway (or less) through a LT playthrough before I was like, “Nope, can’t do it!” I feel like it’s particularly “bad” itc because it’s not like MC + two crushes, it’s MC, MC’s actual SO, and MC’s crush :sob: Poor Natey. Doesn’t appeal to me, but I can see how others might enjoy it, and based on what I’ve read about it, it seems like it’s well-written.

Yeah same. I got until book 2 and I was going to do so in book 3 thinking naively that maybe it would end in a poly route if you had the same romance points for both A and N but since it was debunked, I dropped it realizing that yeah, I was hurting them both for no reason and at the end I’d have to choose one and hurt the other…so yeah, I realized it was bad, so so bad.

I respect people who do indeed do LT routes, but I just can’t, I was barely holding on but now I can’t.

Yes! The MC actually dating N while lowkey pining for A is a whole layer of messiness that I don’t wanna even consider lmao

When I was playing the LT, I didn’t date N because of the conflicted feelings, didn’t feel right so I wanted my MC to date no one while figuring out her feelings. But then N hit me with “Am I not good enough for her” in the demo.

I said “F*ck it, I’m tapping out”

I know! I thought it was pretty cool!

Yeah, Dezh has been doing this forever, really. Even when she was a kid, she sought out pain to help her drown out the emotions. It works for her. She just goes to the extreme with it.

Dezh would be down for that, lol! She does sing, but not in front of people she knows. She goes to random bars she never goes to and does karaoke (though Tina knows she can sing because Tina has actually gotten her drunk enough to talk).

I figured it was just because Sera didn’t want F to say anything. I think she’s one of those authors who will override her characters’ natural inclinations if she wants it that way. So anything I see from any of them that leaves me asking wtf (because it seems out of character or doesn’t really fit), I write it off as being what she wants, regardless of if it makes sense. Kinda like the gun thing–I’m sorry, but if you shoot a supernatural in the head with a .50 cal or shotgun, they’re gonna go down hard and will probably either not heal quick enough to account for blood loss or simply die from having their heads blown off–but Sera doesn’t like guns, so guns don’t work. Even the bakery thing with Haley was like that for me–most people don’t walk up to someone say, in front of another person, “I didn’t know you were seeing anyone” because it’s rude. You ask such questions in private, not in front of others, even if they were making out in public. And with my MC? That’d be a good way to have her cuss you out. So that was another situation of, “yeah, this wouldn’t happen unless Haley is a complete nosy bitch, but Sera wants it so there it is.” At most, I could’ve seen someone saying “oh, you make a cute couple” but the way Haley asked it was just… unacceptable, IMO. But it was necessary to have M be a dick.

Maybe it’s because they don’t expect M and the MC to last, anyway, so the MC being mad isn’t some big surprise. F seems to only comment on M’s behavior with the MC when it’s uncharacteristically soft (the scene after the werewolves). And N seems to only say something if they’re being inappropriate. Otherwise, they don’t see that interested in it (and Adam isn’t interested at all). Whereas, with A, F is way interested in something happening between them and the MC.

Too bad they aren’t fun to torture. I want to see A ready for a relationship and have the MC pull an A on them. Same with M.

Though, with M, my MC would be completely disbelieving.
MC: “Stop jerking me around. I know you don’t do strings. You’ve made that abundantly clear. Repeatedly. In front of numerous people.”
M: “Goddammit, MC, I’m serious!”
MC: “Pfft.”
F, snorting: “Guess you better prove it, M.”

Back when I had a different MC for Adam, I originally decided to play the LT over A’s route because A does show more interest and emotion toward the MC in it (and I felt like my MC got nothing from him otherwise and it was breaking her). But I can’t stomach the LT. I made a run of it in the b3 demo and couldn’t take it… it just felt all kinds of wrong. So now I have a MC for A that fits and doesn’t get frustrated or even care about him being a jerk to her, and can avoid the LT like the plague.

More power to anyone who likes and enjoys that kind of pain, but it’s not for me.

Hm, I don’t think that’s the case. At least not for N. I think it’s more about them not wanting to interfere. I don’t remember if it’s this book or book 2 where N and M are talking and N says something along the lines of “I’m going to enjoy watching you figure this out” (this being the fact that M’s feelings for MC aren’t just surface-level).

My guess is that they’re willing to tease M (F) or rein M in when he’s being inappropriate (N) but they don’t want to push M (maybe because they’re worried if they push too much, M’ll react poorly – which tracks considering the way M reacted when someone thought M and MC were dating).

The scene you are talking about is in book 3 after the investigation part of the kidnapped girl.
And yes i also think N is wary that confronting/pushing M will actually have adverse effect , infact from what we have seen it will definitely have adverse effect pretty considerate of N there. But i do hope N give some gentle nudges to M when needed , and i think they’ll need it at some point.

And about UB not showing much reaction to MC’s anger i think that’s cause they dont know the full story.

I can buy this for N, I guess, since even in the beginning of b3 after the werewolf thing, if M is soft with the MC, F starts trying to harass M about it but N stops them. N knows how M would respond to that, and it wouldn’t be pretty.

F, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to care, since they are more than ready to harass M over their behavior around the MC (when M is soft, anyway) and find it funny to make M mad about it. Whether that’s because F doesn’t expect it to last or because they don’t care if M ends it with the MC over being harassed, I don’t know. With F, it’s hard to tell, because they like harassing M so much, no matter the circumstance (not to say they don’t love M like a sibling, because F is the only one who gave approval points for saving M over Sanja, which says a lot to me, but F is kind of like the little brother who just loves harassing big bro so much that they don’t care about the consequences, even if those consequences are M walking away from the MC).

That was actually in the b3 demo.

Nate shoves his hands into his pockets, the knowing smile still firmly in place. “I’m just enjoying watching you experience this.”

I still think N doesn’t really know if it’ll last or not, though (even if they’re leaning toward M starting to fall for the MC), and wouldn’t be surprised if M walks away from the MC, despite the above statement.

Also, there’s a difference between interfering and saying things to make M think about things, even if only briefly (much like N tells A that it’s okay to be happy, even as A denies there being anything between them and the MC).

I just… given how N, F, and A react to there apparently (or obviously) being something between the MC and each of the team–and the fact that they say something supportive about it even in instances where it’s A and there’s clear resistance–it seems their reaction to M being involved with the MC is either complete and utter dismissal (from A), vague comments that mean nothing and don’t even cause M pause to think about what’s happening (N), or rabid teasing because they find it hilarious and don’t consider the ramifications of said teasing (F).

Granted, M isn’t the type to look for or want “support” (especially for something they have defined as a meaningless sex romp), but that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t use some kind of gentle hint to help them figure things out, which would make things easier on M and on the MC. If anyone could do that, it’s N, but it’s not happening and not going to happen, apparently, because N has all but said they’re good with just sitting back and watching the drama… even if it means the MC gets hurt by M being thoughtless and running hot and cold.

The only thing I hope is that, for the M-mancers whose bff is N, they’ll at least get some encouragement and support from N as this whole “M doesn’t know what’s happening” thing is drawn out over the course of the next two or three books. The M-mancers whose bff is A (which is the case for my M-mancer) are pretty much screwed and will have to just deal with it, because I can’t see A saying a word to them about any of it or being supportive to the MC during times of M-dickishness.

Well, the MC’s mood is obvious to all of them thanks to their abilities–except maybe A, who might just ignore the MC’s moods–so not mentioning it or asking about it is obviously intentional. So I figure it’s because they don’t know the MC well enough yet to care about them being mad or they aren’t comfortable enough to ask about it if they do care.

Progress Update - 14th May 2021

Busy week but not in the way I was expecting

Silver had some intense chest problems this week, which freaked me out completely (he’s the last of my boys, so I’m a bit of a worrywart rat mum these days!). So I was really struggling to get in the editing headspace.

But that actually ended up working out well, because I had fallen really far behind on social media and Patreon things after focusing on the demo, chapter 7, and merch.

So, I sat with Silver and we worked on that together.

I finished up all the character q&a questions for Patreon this month, which took most of the week, especially as I got really carried away on some of them, lol! They were just so much fun though, some really awesome asks for the characters! (The Ava, Maaka, Tane one was particularly interesting to write!)

I also finished the Unseen Scene, which is one a lot of people have been waiting for.

Got sorted for Tumblr asks, so those should be back up together again now! Did more of those than I usually get the chance to do, so hopefully that will help me not fall behind again.

And then I also started fixing the few bugs people caught in the demo. I’ll try to update that after those are in as well!

So yeah, it was a bit of a mish-mash kind of week of catch up things that really helped clear my head a bit. It was starting to get a bit overwhelming having those hanging over me, but now I’m caught up, and hopefully Silver is on the mend, I can get back to finishing off Chapter 7 next week ready to send over to SpunkyCatNinja!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend, and I’ll talk to you soon! <3

Honestly there’s definitely some truth to this (at least for me). I liken the LT route to my ‘canon’ Dragon Age Origins route. In that game my MC is the human mage and like my detective is completely inexperienced and naive when it comes to romance, has always been dedicated to school and then work, etc. In that game she first meets Alistair who is very much like Nate…genuinely nice, handsome, funny, etc, who she would’ve imagined would be her ideal partner. Then Zevran comes along and is very much the opposite of what she thought she would’ve been attracted to, but she starts to see past the masks he wears and she realizes what she feels for him is true love and Alistair was her confusing attraction/first love/crush for genuine love. Cue having to break up with Alistair and feeling horrible about it but it being the best for everyone involved in the long run.

Dragon Age ramble done. But likewise, my LT detective thought Nate was who she would’ve described as her ideal partner…Adam was the opposite (even though she admitted he was attractive), but yet once she starts to see under the cold, unfeeling act he puts on. Well, there you have it. LT detective is going to eventually come to the realization that Adam is the one she truly loves and Nate was just first crush/confusing attraction and having love for someone with IN love with someone.

And boy is it going to hurt because like Alistair I really adore Nate and the LT is just sweet torture and pain for everyone involved. But sometimes a vampire soap opera is what we need to get through the night.

Still…I’m torn between my ‘canon’ wayhaven route being Adam or surprisingly, Mason. I say surprisingly because my first time playing book 1 my impression of Mason was ‘eww…he smokes AND he’s a jerk, I’m not doing his route." (granted I’m heavily biased against characters who smoke because I’m literally allergic to cigarette smoke in real life so I’d be constantly sick if I dated a smoker…) But reading peoples’ comments on the M route in this forum I gave it a try and darned if I’m not torn between who my favorite is…M or A.

Oh my lord he does?..I haven’t tried the LT demo for book 3 yet. X.x; my LT detective was the same way, she felt conflicted so she didn’t think it was right to start an official relationship with Nate at the end of book 2. ;…;

M is and forever will be my “canon” route. [He] was the first one I went for in Book 1. I have a thing for broody assholes :sob:

Also, I’m very anti-smoker b/c I can’t stand the smell, so I wasn’t loving that fact either, but MC said he doesn’t smell/taste like smoke so now I’m like… okay, I guess. Plus, I get that he does it because it helps with the whole sensory overload thing, so I try not to judge too harshly lol.

Plus if your detective doesn’t like it, he’ll eventually quit smoking because they give him the same benefit (making his senses bearable), which is super sweet <3 Yeah, Mason is actually edging out Adam currently (depending on A’s ‘thaw rate’, though we’ve seen big progress even by the end of the demo on that front). Romancing Mason to me is especially fun with my MC who never bothered dating and is super shy and easily flustered. She’s kissed him but she’s very much in the long game ‘no sex unless it actually means something’ camp.

But I love the character development Mason is getting, and I was surprised (in a great way) by him being upset at hurting the detective in the bakery and the apology <3

I recommend playing the route just to see the scene :sob:

Also people have canon routes?
If there was a harem route that would be mine! My love schedule would consists of

Monday-Adam
Tuesday-Nate
Wednesday-Felix
Thursday-Mason
Friday-Tina

Then have Agent Fuller for the weekends :face_with_monocle:

Pffttt, you know what? Same.

Yep, I am way too indecisive to just pick one especially since all the routes have tasty morsels of things I love in romance!

Yeah all the routes are great! They make me swoon and they’re not even 3D characters.
Plus my dumb poly ass falls in love way too quick.

Actually for harem i can imagine A , N and M , i just have a hard time seeing F as a love interest because my best friend is literally F in flesh so i tend to see F as a bff not a love interest.
