Well, if you’re gonna twist my arm
I’ll use spoiler tags till more people have a chance to play it…
M’s route: OMFG!! Other than interruptions returning (seriously, we’re back to that??), M’s route was absolutely fricking perfect. There were a couple of moments that just made me, as a reader, melt. It made my detective stand there wondering wtf was going on. The face touch after the initial werewolf scene?? Shit!! It was soft!! Soft Mason is incredible. Then there was another one after the bounty scene (no one liked it that Dezh was more concerned about the amount of her bounty than the bounty itself, lol). Mason, with his “I guess I’ll have to do the worrying about you, then.” bounces Of course, Dezh had no clue wtf was going on, lol.
F’s route:
Summary
F is solidly my second favorite route now. F is just awesome, sweet and fun, without being nauseating. The nickname “babe” is perfect coming from him. M’s response to the MC and F catching up again made me giggle. “Are you two gonna do this every time you meet up?” For someone who is constantly trying to get in his MC’s pants (and even kissing them stupid), it’s hilarious that he gets so grossed out by F being that way with his MC.
N’s route:
Summary
My MC loves it, except for N’s over-protectiveness, which she already finds grating. From a reader’s perspective, I feel like M and am about to barf at the overly saccharine sweetness of it. I can see the draw to it, if that’s your gig, but it’s gonna take some doing on my part to read this route. I may have to give N a rougher MC–my Triss is a creampuff, with a raunchy sense of humor, but it’s hard to read!
A’s route:
Summary
My least favorite. Again, I can see the draw if pointless pining is your thing, but it’s not my thing. I find the route boring. There are a couple of moments with A (him freaking out over the MC making jokes about having a bounty and whatever) but instead of enhancing the route, for me it just makes it that much more cringe-worthy. I’m not sure I can stomach three more books of A’s route before they pull their head out of their ass. There’s just no payoff.
That said, it is amusing to watch my A-route MC slowly figuring out what’s going on with them. And I do applaud (vigorously and enthusiastically) the fact that the MC had an opportunity to call A on their bullshit in the first chapter and then walk off (and loved that M followed her with a look at A). If there are more opportunities to call A out and just leave, the route will be far more tolerable. In chapter 2, there was no chance for it, so it annoyed me. And my MC was just like “sigh.” She really has just given up on the idea of A so it’ll be interesting to see how it proceeds, if I can take it.
Edited to add:
I think, for me, two things would save this route:
-
Many more (read: constant) opportunities to tell A off about their behavior. Call them childish, tell them to knock it off, whatever. Just give my MC a chance to unload and walk away.
-
This one is probably the most important: allow my MC to just stop altogether. Make it so that A has to basically go out of their way to win over the MC after all this shit. Especially since it’s going to continue for multiple books. I’d say a chance, in book 3, to just be like, “You know what? I’m done. You made your decision.” Then make A do the work to convince the MC otherwise. That chance would probably make this route my solid #2 (sorry F!).
LT route:
Summary
It feels dirty. And painful, and just… wrong. But I suppose that’s the way it should feel. My MC for that path started a relationship with N in book 2, but I think I’m gonna go back and see if she will choose otherwise, because she’s too drawn to A and feels like shit being with N and sharing “looks” with A. That’s really all I have to say on that one!
