The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Three (WIP -FINAL DEMO)

Well, if you’re gonna twist my arm :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll use spoiler tags till more people have a chance to play it…

M’s route: OMFG!! Other than interruptions returning (seriously, we’re back to that??), M’s route was absolutely fricking perfect. There were a couple of moments that just made me, as a reader, melt. It made my detective stand there wondering wtf was going on. The face touch after the initial werewolf scene?? Shit!! It was soft!! Soft Mason is incredible. Then there was another one after the bounty scene (no one liked it that Dezh was more concerned about the amount of her bounty than the bounty itself, lol). Mason, with his “I guess I’ll have to do the worrying about you, then.” bounces Of course, Dezh had no clue wtf was going on, lol.

F’s route:

Summary

F is solidly my second favorite route now. F is just awesome, sweet and fun, without being nauseating. The nickname “babe” is perfect coming from him. M’s response to the MC and F catching up again made me giggle. “Are you two gonna do this every time you meet up?” For someone who is constantly trying to get in his MC’s pants (and even kissing them stupid), it’s hilarious that he gets so grossed out by F being that way with his MC.

N’s route:

Summary

My MC loves it, except for N’s over-protectiveness, which she already finds grating. From a reader’s perspective, I feel like M and am about to barf at the overly saccharine sweetness of it. I can see the draw to it, if that’s your gig, but it’s gonna take some doing on my part to read this route. I may have to give N a rougher MC–my Triss is a creampuff, with a raunchy sense of humor, but it’s hard to read!

A’s route:

Summary

My least favorite. Again, I can see the draw if pointless pining is your thing, but it’s not my thing. I find the route boring. There are a couple of moments with A (him freaking out over the MC making jokes about having a bounty and whatever) but instead of enhancing the route, for me it just makes it that much more cringe-worthy. I’m not sure I can stomach three more books of A’s route before they pull their head out of their ass. There’s just no payoff.

That said, it is amusing to watch my A-route MC slowly figuring out what’s going on with them. And I do applaud (vigorously and enthusiastically) the fact that the MC had an opportunity to call A on their bullshit in the first chapter and then walk off (and loved that M followed her with a look at A). If there are more opportunities to call A out and just leave, the route will be far more tolerable. In chapter 2, there was no chance for it, so it annoyed me. And my MC was just like “sigh.” She really has just given up on the idea of A so it’ll be interesting to see how it proceeds, if I can take it.

Edited to add:
I think, for me, two things would save this route:

  1. Many more (read: constant) opportunities to tell A off about their behavior. Call them childish, tell them to knock it off, whatever. Just give my MC a chance to unload and walk away.

  2. This one is probably the most important: allow my MC to just stop altogether. Make it so that A has to basically go out of their way to win over the MC after all this shit. Especially since it’s going to continue for multiple books. I’d say a chance, in book 3, to just be like, “You know what? I’m done. You made your decision.” Then make A do the work to convince the MC otherwise. That chance would probably make this route my solid #2 (sorry F!).

LT route:

Summary

It feels dirty. And painful, and just… wrong. But I suppose that’s the way it should feel. My MC for that path started a relationship with N in book 2, but I think I’m gonna go back and see if she will choose otherwise, because she’s too drawn to A and feels like shit being with N and sharing “looks” with A. That’s really all I have to say on that one!

Okay, so I’m done and I’ve only one reaction about this whole affair;

Why must you torment us like this, Ava? Why must you be an emotionally constipated robot all the time? It’s not fair, you know?

Also, sarcastic Detective is gold. Like, I love that jerk.

Pretty sure that’s how we’re supposed to feel. I mean, we’re playing with two immortal vampires’ hearts, that’s not going to end well.

Same.

Now off I go to play N, M and the LT routes! Even though it’s going to cost another three hours of my life. But it’s worth it. Probably. Definitely not going to fall in trouble.

I’m so glad that the public demo is finally out! I am lucky to have already played it, but I now I can finally scream with other people about it!

Spoilers from F, N and M below!

Oh. My. God. Felix is going to kill me with his cuteness, it was such a delight to see all the different choices in his romance scenes, I wonder if I will ever get over how open he is about his love for you, and in this book, his concern too. I was almost tearing up when he is so openly worried about the Detective and pretty much ready to do anything in order to protect us from the Trapper threat, he is just so cute :sob:. And the casual touches between the two… <3 Love it!

And with Mason, ahhhhhh!! He is worried for us!!! When he told my Detective that “don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you” I was ready to DIE. I love that we are seeing that intense loyalty and protectiveness that characterizes him this early on, even if he thinks nothing of it lol!

N… damn, I usually play a more shy Detective, but with N I did go for the bold route and oh boy, I have no regrets on that, hehe. That kiss that the two of you can share… when he literally moans as you kiss his neck :flushed: I… I was not ready to have him moaning, but oh god, I needed it :flushed:

And a bit more general thought:

What I must say about this demo, is that I really love how we can see their protective natures playing in different ways fitting to their personalities. Like A being super intense about it, M being nonchalant, F being anxious but determinate, and then N trying to keep calm for the Detective’s sake. It’s great to see the shared traits playing out so differently!

And boy… that villain sure does look sexy :flushed:

Yes but F and the Detective have those icky things called… feelings for one another, eugh.

That is precisely why I hate this route. It’s just… boring. Like I said above in my edited comment, there are two things that could save this route for me, and one of them happens in chapter 1: the ability to call A on their bullshit and walk away. More of that would make this route more palatable for me. And my MC, really, to a lesser extent.

OMG, that makes two of us. The snark is strong with this one!

The funny part is M is having them, too. But has no idea wtf they are! I love the confusion. Especially in that post-werewolf attack scene, where M’s reaching out to touch the MC’s face and a weird look is in his eyes, then he jerks back and glares at the rest of the group and snaps, “WHAT!” Given that my detective is just as clueless, it’s comedy gold. The two of them are idiots.

So the website gave me an error when I finished the recap and was going to start the new book, and after that it crash… Dashingdon really doesn’t want me to play the game xD

Dashingdon is tremendously overwhelmed at the moment due to the massive traffic that has rushed there with the release of this demo. While I do understand the hype to want to play this already, it might be better to wait until later today or maybe even tomorrow

I mean, yes, but F and the Detective are actually aware of it! That’s kinda gross for sure  Though I am sure deep down M is happy for them both lol!

More seriously now, while M is obviously starting to garner more feelings for our Detective, it’s obviously going to take a while before he actually realizes it, this idiot is the type of character to live together with MC for 5 years and then, when someone asks him “so, how long have you and MC been a couple?” he would do the pikachu face meme as a response when realization washes over him

I can’t read the demo because it stopped loading after I picked an option in key decisions. I’m sad now I tried it in different browsers but it’s not working.

Oh, definitely. Given things Sera has said in the past, I figure it’ll be book 5 or 6 before M actually realizes he feels something other than loyalty and horniness toward the MC. I’m just happy we get to see him showing it, even if he’s not really feeling the feels yet.

And I gotta say, if the MC didn’t get to bang him, his route would be worse than A’s for me to read, I think. Or just as bad. With M, at least we get some physical affection instead of getting kicked in the teeth over and over again (and my MC with A didn’t even get the hand holding scene because she didn’t initiate it, and if the MC doesn’t do it, you apparently don’t get it at all and they just stand there like doofuses staring at the sky and tolerating each other).

Oh, and I meant to say this before: you’re right, the villain is hot! Wonder if he’ll prove as hot as Falk? Because Falk is

I might be being overly optimistic, but seeing how things evolved on book 2 and what we have on book 3, I think there is a very real possibility of having a more cemented relationship with M somewhere during book 4

While being able to get physical with M is great, I admit I have two playthroughs with him, one with an MC that sees sex as something very special, and another that sees it as something that is simple fun, with how differently his romance can evolve depending on this, I really want to see both paths!

As per A, I do love his route, not going to lie there  . I love slow burns that take ages to get that final, physical reward that goes in an huge BOOM.

I would 100% love it if their first kiss can also be their first sexual encounter. All that contained emotion exploding in an awesome bang that breaks the bed, yes please :flushed:

Was it the Maa-alused resolution, the decision were it stopped loading? Because there it’s were it crashes for me.

My main playthrough (romancing A) is a relatively timid, genuine type who cares about others more than himself. It is absolutely the perfect pairing in my opinion, because neither of us is willing to push it but it drives everyone around the two crazy. That’s what I like about it, and it will be absolutely worth the payoff.

We’ll see. I tend more toward “expect the worst” (you’re supposed to hope for the best along with that, but I don’t bother with that part, because I don’t want to be disappointed, lol). Sera likes dragging things out for some characters, aka “slow burn,” and given how she’s constantly reminding us that the A & M routes are extremely slow burn and we have to be in for the long haul, then I’m estimating that nothing will be cemented with M till closer toward toward the end, and A will be like a heartbeat before the end. If I’m wrong, then I get pleasantly surprised. The good news is that she’s already pleasantly surprised me once (I figured she’d drag out M sex for another book or two just to jerk us around), so it may happen again.

I wish I could play this way, but I get my canon character on a route and that’s that (then I can’t play that route with anyone else, or it feels like they’re cheating!). I have a different character, with different personality, for every route in every game. It’s fun, but with some characters, it proves challenging to make someone who works with a certain LI.

Like A: In book 1, I tried four different MCs with Adam and all of them were basically like, “fuck this” after a certain point. So I made two separate MCs that kinda work for his route to try to find one where it would appeal to me more (and where my MC didn’t throw her hands up and walk away for good out of annoyance with A’s childishness). After book 2 and the book 3 demo, I think I’m finally down to one MC, partially because I found someone who works with him and partially because having to play his route twice every time might make me shove a firepoker through my skull. :expressionless:

I think my problem is that, for me, slow burn means a couple slowly grows closer over time and goes through their ups and downs before finally committing. A’s route isn’t that–it’s A resisting and acting like a tool and, as far as I’m concerned, being a dick to the MC with a couple of tiny signs here and there that he’s interested. For the MCs I’ve stuck with him, it’s been emotionally abusive to any MC that is insecure to begin with, and is frustrating to an MC who is secure with themselves and wants to be with him, to the point where they decide it’s psychologically unhealthy to bother with him and decide to cut it off by the first part of book 2. The only MC I’ve found that works with A and doesn’t either end it or become completely emotionally damaged is the “clueless” MC who doesn’t even know they’re attracted to each other. And in the demo, even that MC is beginning to catch on, but she really doesn’t give a damn about making it work, she just wants A to stop being a douche.

That would be some soap opera drama there, lol. Not my gig, like I said before, but my A-MC might be okay with it since she’s a virgin. One that made out with Bobby in book 2, lol. I can’t wait for that to come out. Well, in that route. Dezh let Bobby kiss her because she was in a mood :tm: and he caught her off guard, and I think she’d prefer that not come out, partially because she freaking hates Bobby (not because she thinks Mason would care one way or the other, since she knows “it’s just meaningless sex” to him).

No way, IT’S BOOK THREE!! The Demo. Am I dreaming? O my God, what did I do for deserve this:>

Yeah that’s the one but after I waited a while I could continue! I think the website is taking a long time since we are all trying to read the demo haha. But it should work after some time!
