It’s probably a little far fetched but personally dhampirs are such fun idea for wayhaven.
Dhampirs are half human half vampires right? Murphy quite literally injected the Detective (lol it rhymes) with his blood so the Detective has vampire blood in them and no fucking way they would register as human anymore.
Dhampirs could in the folklore and legends, resists the charm of vampires and see invisible vampires, obviously vampires don’t turn invisible in wayhaven but the psychic abilities of the vampires (except M) and other supernaturals obviously don’t work on them but also that makes me thinks the Detective could have had some vampiric blood to start with which is why the transfusion worked in the first place (very small teeny tiny chance though)
Dhampirs could do sorcery. Wasn’t Felix’s mother a half vampire witch, maybe she was some sort of natural born Dhampirs and it could give way for the Detective being a human born Dhampir.
Dhampirs are usually in folklore, legends and popular media, vampire or monster hunters and from a storytelling perspective the irony would be so sweet.
Dhampirs have boosted abilities (although the abilities themselves wary in legends), I don’t remember who but someone made a very good point much earlier in this thread, that the Detective managed to make even a superpowered Murphy stumble away while the Detective was in a weakened state so I think the Detective definitely has other abilities and it’s not like Agency has tested them for boosted abilities.
It would be too funny to find out the Detective could be a type of supernatural in A’s route.
Also I think it could be a good neutral ground for characters that want to become vampires and those that don’t, like they could live a very long life with the LI and their friends but not forever.
It would be hilarious if the Detective just makes the side supernaturals fall in love with them through out the books and keeps collecting them like pokemon lol
Personally, I’d love it. It would explain the MC’s ability to quickly heal (seriously, the MC should’ve been down for a while after being buried in bricks), resistance to mind control powers, etc.
However, Sera seemed dead set on the MC remaining human for the entirety of the series and said it was crucial to the plot (i.e., the romances) for that to be the case. So, despite some cool theories, including one about the darts (which I learned a drunken MC with no skills can still miss), I doubt it’ll happen.
And I doubt the MC has any real abilities other than the resistance to mind control, because that would make them far too capable. Any occurrences that make no sense–like ridiculously fast healing–is simply plot dictated to get the MC where she needs them to be. I mean, if the plot dictated the MC grow a tail, then the MC would have a tail… and it would disappear when it was no longer needed and the other characters would likely forget it existed, lol.
Fr I feel like N with technology when I try to use that site
This!! I’m honestly soo pleasantly surprised with N’s route! They were firmly my least favourite the past two books, but there’s something about them I’m absolutely loving this time around?? I thought they were way too nice and sweet and kinda boring. But now we have all the secrets and the friction from the overprotectiveness. I can’t wait for it all to come to a boil and for shit to hit the fan. And the bloodthirst!! What’s a vampire story without a little biting? I really really hope UB can bite the MC next book lmaoo I’ve been waiting since I first played these books. Also looking forward to more glimpses of their past. It seems really bloody and kinda…unhinged. I love it.
Fr!! Even UB is not safe! I laughed so hard when in the beginning of B3 you go off to investigate Addie’s kidnapping, and the only one who returns with some useful info is the MC duo. None of the others find anything without MC holding their hand. Like really M, you couldn’t check Addie’s backpack by yourself??
Lmaoo the detective simply must have their harem. Ig UV is safe from the detective’s charm since 2 of them are already in love with F and M, and it’d be absolutely hilarious if the other two secretly love A and N.
Tumblr is horrible. I have four blogs I am interested in and I refuse to dig around on them. There’s this thing called TumblrThree you can use to download the whole damned thing. Much easier to search from a text document than on that crappy site.
M scoffs. “You think I wanna dig around in that kid’s shit? If it wasn’t sitting out, I didn’t bother.”
Wait, what? Which of UV was in love with F? I thought Alima was the only one our MCs had to worry about.
You’re probably right, but it makes for such a fun plot
Tbh the Detective is very capable already even with just one good skill so it doesn’t make much sense to not just give them at least a bit of power outside of the resistance.
Also it bothers me not one person questioned how quickly this HUMAN recovered from broken bones and extreme blood loss like excuse me, wtf just happened???
Nope, no it does not. “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
What is the main purpose for governments in real life? To protect their own interests. Governmental agencies are all playing at the same poker table together and all of them are cheating.
For Wayhaven, though, we know that the author is just tired of the Evil Corporation trope and so she is adamant that the Agency will always be one of the Good Guys. Seems to be making them more incompetent than probably intended.
N apparently struggling the whole time with their desire to bite me and my detective just casually at dinner telling Tina ‘yeah i’d totally let N bite me’.
Honestly my detective takes the biting thing way less seriously than she probably should. She’d totally be up for carrying packets of her own blood to feed the team in combat as power up consumables.
Are they supposed to be?
F is an ESFP, if I’m not mistaken… an introverted feeler. I think that’s more like sympathy than empathy. F can feel intensely as if the emotions were their own, but doesn’t necessarily understand how others objectively feel about things and doesn’t care how about being polite. By constract, I think N is supposed to be an extroverted feeler (ESFJ), according to Sera’s notes, and N is much more polite and empathetic, IMO.
If I could like those two paragraphs a thousand times, I would. So, so accurate.
Well, for one thing, she has them operating under some extremely stupid rules, like having the agents go out of their way not hurting enemies. They don’t want the “bad guys” injured, but won’t give the agents any sort of crowd control weapons to handle it and don’t seem to give a rat’s ass if the agents themselves are hurt while trying not to hurt their enemy. It’s like handing someone a butter knife and sending them into a gunfight. May as well toss the butter knife and pummel the enemy lightly in hopes of knocking them out.
They don’t want to kill, but have no problem with torture boxes. I mean, the Agency is run by idiots.
But in the context of power corrupting, maybe that’s why they’re so stupid. If you gave anyone with half a brain as much power as the Agency has, they’d be running roughshod all over the world and plotting to take control of the governments that fund them.
I see but I think the evil cooperation or at the very least a very misguided and broken cooperation that is so adamant on looking at the problems on the outside that they don’t see the internal problems trope would really work for this story.
I think the Agency is supposed to be generally good, but they aren’t perfect, and they apparently have a problem with a mole and might have been infiltrated with the bad guys…so I’m guessing as we rise in the ranks, we might end up having to fight to defend the Agency. Perhaps originally Rook was there to disrupt the Agency, but ended up falling in love with Rebecca instead.
Its not that surprising that Agency is so bad.
They are like only one existing organization that handles supernatural stuff - they have no “competition” so they don’t have to bother to fix anything .
Because people/supernaturals either join&work with them, know of their existence or are against them.
I think Agency motto is “if it ain’t broke why fix it”
It’s Daria! It’s not necessarily love, but definitely a crush. Here’s some code snippets about that!
When UV inquire about F & MC's relationship with Vieno present
Vieno sighs. "You bet it's true."
I throw a wide-eyed stare over at them.
They shrug. "What? I might not know specifics, but have you seen that vampire these days? Bouncing around the facility during meetings like ${f_she}'s sniffed some of my best magics."
Otmar crosses his arms, spreading out his legs in front of him as he eyes me. "Oh, so you're the one who's been causing that."
"Who else could it be? ${felix} hasn't taken interest in anyone down here, that's for sure," Daria states through a scoff, and I sense a slight bitterness to the tone.
MC tells UV they're in a relationship with F
A smile finds my lips the moment ${felix} enters my thoughts. "It's true. We're together."
"Knowing ${f_she}'s off the market will disappoint a lot of people," Daria quips, her pout giving me an idea of just who might be the most disappointed.
MC tells UV they're not in a relationship with F
"We're not together, if that's what you're getting at," I explain, my gaze dropping down as I rub my forearm.
"Why the hell not?" Daria asks. "${felix} is the best catch in this entire facility. In this entire area!"
Otmar rolls his deep-set hazel eyes but doesn't make a comment.
Same! My MC is just as eager! And I think Sera mentioned somewhere that vampire bites can be anything from painful to downright euphoric depending on the vampire, so there’s that. All the more reason my MC is not gonna say no lmao
Speaking of the no kill policy (I feel like the Agency has no business pretending to be Batman)
I wonder if there will be a chance for the Detective to kill someone to protect themselves or a loved one or some other reason which could cause the agency to come down on them because the reason for the no kill policy is “they don’t want humans to have a life or death hold on the supernatural” and the Detective is very much a human in the eyes of the Agency (although I don’t believe it) and it would make for good conflict.
Heh! Thanks for the code! I didn’t remember that in my F run. That’s pretty funny. It would be more hilarious if the other two have a thing for N and A.
Yeah, three of my MCs will be all over this. My M-mancer is most eager to get bitten, and I think she might tell M to make it hurt before doing the euphoria thing… M might stare at her like she’s nuts, but she’d mean it.
I’d like this. If it came to it, anyone who messes with M will be a goner because my M-mancer would waste them. Without regret. And she’d tell the Agency to go to hell if they didn’t like it.
Yes! Sooooo good! I really want to feel that moment of impact, the moment within an ultimate decision where there’s “no going back”. Pushing toward that feeling of “well, this can’t get any worse” and then it does. Then, finding/figuring out the solution that makes everything better.
It sounds like for some, the lighthearted feel of Wayhaven is exactly what they come to the story for, and that’s perfectly acceptable. I don’t mind not diving into the rather dark concepts that have been brought up in the story so far, like human (supernatural) trafficking and child murder. I’m glad this story feels lighthearted enough to be that avenue for others.
Personally, I would like to see a hard dose of something that actually feels like peril, though. Maybe that’s what B5 is going to be. In that case, we wait about 4 years to find out, I suppose.
It’s very possible my expectations for this series are very different from what it’s supposed to be, and I don’t want to change that. It just feels kind of weird to bring heavy topics into the story only to kind of just ignore them. If lighthearted romance is what this is, then I suppose I shouldn’t expect more than that.
‘What Dreams May Come’ is my favorite ‘love story’ movie because despite everything Christy goes through, he never gives up on love and is willing to go into the darkest of places to save it. All the feels right there.
Another topic I wanted to bring was that since a lot of people were not keen on A’s route after THAT ending (which I kinda adored and hated at the same time although the bff conversations were very good) if we get a chance to “move on” per se with a date or something, wouldn’t it be cool if you could go out with someone from unit Alpha in A’s route? You know just double down on the suffering for A.
On a sidenote Falk would also work pretty well (in any route tbh, I kinda just want him to get his own route lol)
Haha right? I do like that Daria’s a good sport about it though! I doubt Alima will be as nice
Oh god I’d soo love to see that!! I doubt it would actually be included in the book, but the vampires’ reactions to that would be absolutely hilarious!
That would be cool! And it’d be great to get to know UA better as well. But I’m also one of the five people who actually likes Bobby, so if given the opportunity I’d push my poor MC down that ship. I mean, if nothing else, it’s at least bound to be messy, and that I can appreciate hehe
