F is killing me. I was planning on going F bff for my Nate route but nope, I’ll be sticking with M. At least M (when you have high friend count with them) is extremely supportive in a ‘you are competent and actually doing great’ way and never tries to sabotage whatever romantic shenanigans are happening around (they are also my bff for A route).
F… after replaying B1-2 to make saves for B3 I’m starting to wonder if F is deliberately trying to kill any relationship with A or M that might be happening. Could anyone be genuinely this dense? They’s been in our world for like ten years? And worked with A and M for few years. In three books it hasn’t ever occured to they that nothing good happens after that emotional equivalent of ‘kicking people where it hurts’? Take a hint, sweetie.
Romance aside, the comments on MC family drama - what the hell? It took Mason reminding F of their mom to make them realise that MC and Rebecca might really not be ok with discussing Rook? That’s like the first time since forever MC and Rebecca are acting as a family, just normally having breakfast (with a bunch of vampires, sure) - and then F kills the mood.
I honestly don’t know how I’m gonna make it through four more books without an option to tell F they are being a jerk…
I mean, you don’t need to be all that great to avoid the Agency. So far, I think it’s a lot harder to be detected by them.
IIRC, their use for you as a partner was as a curiosity to draw bidders in. You’d think they’d have done some groundwork on your personality and shit before trying that gamble, but we have recurring real-world evidence that rich people are dumb as fuck, so.
The book tells you the mood was dead long before F’s intervention (not that it was a good intervention, mind you). Rebecca is not good at this in her best moments, and terrible in all the others (of course she is, she’s part of the Agency and not medical staff).
And it only took them TWO cheek kisses (potentially three, depending on how you kissed them in B2 in the medical wing). Learning after two examples qualifies them as the quickest learner in the Agency.
M going from the one receiving a kiss on the cheek to the one kissing the detective’s cheek did more for me than a lot of other ros’ shenanigans. I agree that one of the reasons why I like their route so much is because you get to actually see them starting to realize they’re in love. And yes, I’m going to put my statement on a pedestal and ignore tumblr: it’s love and that’s the tweet, my friends.
These are all such good points, I didn’t even remember Unit Victor was a underwater unit but it’s insane they sent them and reasons are because the rest got kidnapped???
I know the main reason for it was they have their hands on DMP but the math ain’t mathing because considering there are teams going from at A to V (probably more) and each team has a minimum of 4 members and some teams are off on missions that still a lot of armed and trained individuals that were kidnapped, either they’re THAT incompetent or there is a very deep set mole in the Agency.
Also I really hope they give the Detective some access to therapy because at this rate they owe it too them.
Right?! Like they’ve had so many leaks, they must have some suspects? Someone who specifically has access to all the information that was leaked? But fr the mole would have to be the entire chamber to justify all their failures so far lol
Yess! It came out of nowhere! The auctioneer went from trying to kidnap the MC in one scene, to recruiting them in the next?? And if they want to recruit them, why show them their kidnapped friend half-passed out? Just what are they trying to accomplish? I swear the auctioneer’s head is emptier than Rebecca’s promises.
Read it as a farce, it works way better.
Because that’s a good plan? Fill a room up with powerful supernaturals to show off the blood bag everyone wants a piece of? Great way to get ganked by a bunch of supernaturals. That’s as idiotic as thinking they could “buy” the MC’s loyalty.
Like I said, this is the dumbest villain yet, required to be so by the plot.
Same, but my M-mancer didn’t give a cheek kiss in b2 because she saved Mason, instead of Sanja (thankfully, she survived!). But that cheek kiss at the square hit her like a missile to the heart. She returned the favor when Mason told her about the crystal.
I may choose to ignore tumblr, too, because it ruins what was, otherwise, an absolutely perfect installment of the M romance.
And, when you throw in the conversation with bff A toward the end–and it’s adorable that M calls themselves a coward about asking the MC if they’re happy to have them–I don’t see how it can be disputed that M is in love and freaking knows it.
Accurate!
Except you have Sin, and Sin is unbeatable. I mean, you don’t, but y’know.
Morgan/Mason: I’m a sucker for the rakish types with a tortured backstory so I’m not sure why I didn’t latch onto M immediately. Maybe because M has more of that emo/edgelord vibe at first. Edgelords are just annoying. But, the accidental flirt scene while on patrol in B1, M’s was my favorite. Then, we get to see glimpses of actual past torture in B2 which made me just want to bundle M up with TLC in any way they would accept it. If sex is how they’ll take it, sex is what they can have.
I like that focus, too. I want my info about the story to come from the story itself. If the warehouse UB is living in is magical and has fake windows with fake sunshine and fake views of the surrounding forest, that was never once described in the story so it doesn’t exist for me.
I don’t get Tumblr so I’ve done the same thing. Some Tumblr’s don’t even have dates so I don’t know if posts are from yesterday or 10 years ago. I don’t understand not having comment sections under posts, either. It appears to be a requirement to have a Tumblr if you’re wanting to write IF, so I’ll have to figure it out one of these days.
I’m hopeful that N starts going down a dark path and the MC is the only one who can save them from either hitting rock bottom, or lifting them out of rock bottom. I’d love a ‘walk through Hell to save my soulmate’-type of situation.
On multiple playthroughs I end up hating F’s character during Snark Time. There are only a certain amount of snarky comments I can handle, and I love snarky comments. But, I love them even more when they are smartly placed, instead of all the dang time no matter the situation at hand.
This is a safe play. A isn’t going to change until the end of the series so there isn’t much that will be missed until then, from the sounds of it.
I think A and F have the least interesting backstories (for A, more so how they’ve chosen to deal with it) and it makes me want to learn more about N and M’s.
On the topic of the agency, they definitely are very off overall. Personally, their biggest red flag or so to speak is the fact they are backed by all governments of the world.
Also from a storytelling perspective, it doesn’t make too much sense to have a secret ruling body in a fantasy/romance that is so nice? Idk they’re very off putting and come off as too nice sometimes.
(Also didn’t the detective tell Tina and Verda in private?? They’re definitely keeping tabs on the Detective by either spying or bugging them or maybe using magical methods)
Oh it’s so soo much worse! If you have low supernatural reputation, the agency sends Unit Alpha instead of Victor. So in the branch that they do send in UV, they do it for shits and giggles, while their top unit probably lounges about. Like what better do they have to do than stop freaking mass human trafficking?! Why are you not sending your best unit? Is this not important enough?! They’re intentionally trying to mess this up lmaoo
Holy hell, this is HILARIOUS.
“Well, this mission is in a forest, so we’re sending you, the underwater team.”
“Actually, no, we don’t like that one specific person that’s there.”
“Ah, well, guess we’re going to have to send someone better, your personal feelings are the only factor that matters here.”
These people are the worrrrrrrrsttttttttttt!!!.
That’s pretty fucked up, I would assume Alpha was off on a mission but the fact that they were right there and they sent VICTOR??? Like no offense to Unit Victor but they’re much lower than Alpha in terms of the better Unit.
Okay, if we’re still on the topic of the blood mutation and idk if anyone has said this already but hear me out. “Dhampir”
I’d love that kind of situation (for all of them, really). I live for that shit. That and if the MC sacrifices themself to save the love interest–where it’s the MC’s own ass or theirs–thinking there’s no way they’ll ever be rescued… they look at the LI, smile and mouth “I love you” right before plunging into darkness they think they will never get out of. Which, of course, they do get rescued (they get saved right back). Otherwise, I turn green and break shit.
not if you are mending your relationships and asked her to join? That’s in my B3 playthrough right now:
The rest of the breakfast passes rather uneventfully. Rebecca looks about as uncomfortable as expected, but she eases once she has the task of clearing away dishes.
She never really was one for having a relaxing time.
That’s like our longest interaction since B1 and it was going rather well.
But even if it wasn’t? ‘Hey, remember your dead father and husband that you both really miss? So that was fun while it lasted, right?’ is so not the way to go, F.
The dictionary definition of ‘empathy’ is ‘the ability to understand and share the feelings of another’. I’m seriously not sure F is empathic at all.
Anyhow, rant over, gonna go hug N for some emotional comfort xD
I didn’t know the reputation variable sdfgh I’m crying, this is so hilariously bad how tf did they manage to keep their business running so long, I’m genuinely speechless.
Like at this point I have to believe they’re bad because otherwise no excuses for drama or whatever, but the constant whiplash of x being presented as y only to be z is baffling.
I thought my detective was going to have issues going forward, turns out I’m the most qualified bastard around
So if your reputation is not low, they can’t send UA because they fear that unit will fall in love too?
That’s the same text I get. And was it? Going rather well, I mean. It literally tells you Rebecca is extremely uncomfortable and only lightens up when she’s no longer at the table with you. Rebecca can’t mum. And, honestly, that’s ok. Nobody’s on her case for not knowing how to mum properly.
I suspected my detective was the most qualified bastard around in b1. By the end of b2, I knew she was, because of the whole “let’s announce ourselves and demand the Trappers surrender” plan (that’s not a plan). I’m just glad that, in b3, the MC can affect the plan somewhat. I wish we’d had that chance in b2 with Sanja, because that plan was moronic.
I mean, why send your highest ranked team as backup when you could send your 22nd ranked team?
I can just see it… the Agency’s first choice was the fish people, but if they throw a tantrum and refuse because they think the MC’s an asshole, they move onto UU. They have to work their way all the way down to UA because all the others hate the MC, lol.
Agency rules: Field teams only have to help people they like.
No wonder UB sucked so bad at keeping the MC safe in b1. Rebecca made them do it, so they half-assed their already half-assed abilities.
