The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book One (Discussion) FAQ Located on Post 2

Let me tell you, the description of M’s driving reminds me of my 72-year-old teacher. This woman had had every cop in the area as a student & they refuse to ticket her despite the fact that she drives 90mph and switches lanes like it’s going out of style. She does not play around.

I can imagine that M’s disregard for the laws of traffic comes from their long-livedness. Because as almost every person I know over 65 tells me, “at this age, rules cease to matter and there is no time to stop at red lights.”

On an unrelated note, how would UB react to Hotel Transylvania? I think that F would love it, especially the dancing and singing. A would FEEL Drac’s frustration, but HIGHLY object to the liberal use of the word “monster.” N would see the scene where Drac claims to drink “blood substitute” and just wish. M would take one look at the cartoon vampires and be out of that room faster than the speed of sound.

My main MC would likely leave Adam wishing for M’s driving. I designed her driving abilities after mine (only slightly exaggerated, I suppose). One time, I drove this British guy to lunch and he got out, dropped to the ground and literally kissed it. I rolled my eyes and he spent the next two hours telling everyone how he almost died and that I am clearly insane. :expressionless: A good friend of mine told him you just have to get used to the fact that I have two speeds: full throttle and stopped. It was good advice.

I doubt my MC would mind M’s driving after she got to know him. Before that, it’d just be a control thing: “I need to drive. Let me drive. Why don’t you let me drive???”

I’m curious as to A’s driving. I get that A is good at everything, but I think my main MC would think A drives like an old lady (not like the one who speeds that @Hannah_Minger mentioned!).

I am above 65 years of age at heart
But, seriously, there is no time for red lights when it’s 10 am and you had to be somewhere at 8 am…yes, i am that friend…sorry…

F would LOVE it.
N would smile and find the comedic use of vampires amusing
A would roll their eyes and probably ignore it (or mock it slightly before ignoring it)
M would be out of there so fast, there wouldn’t even be the trail of smoke left behind…

And then they run over someone just starting to live

Ya’ll are scaring me. Safe driving is important! I don’t want anything to happen to you guys. And I’m being 100% serious, my irl best friend got into a car accident just yesterday and totaled her car, she’s lucky she’s not hurt she could’ve been killed if the car hit her front door and not her back door.

Drive safe, guys! Don’t be like M, they’re a fictional vampire with super healing and you’re real humans with normal healing.

I think N would drive before letting M have the keys. Imagining a scenario where A, F, and MC have all been knocked out, and they need to get away, who would rather have driving the maniac going 200 mph or the one asking ‘what are all these knobs and buttons for?’ I’d like to think N can at least handle the basics of it by accident but I don’t know. Maybe we should just resign ourselves to death XD

Someone needs to write that scenario of N and M attempting to save the day with a motor vehicle.

N refuses to let M drive, and M is left dictating instructions as N attempts to get it up and going.

It’s a manual transmission.

If it was literally life or death N would give up control for us to not die. But that’s not as funny.

Well, that would be a good way to make N learn to drive.

“N, what if one day I am critical and need to be rushed to a hospital, and its only you and me? You can’t just carry me in your arms if I have severe injuries”
“Don’t worry about that MC, The Agency has resources for those situations”
“Really? But what if they don’t? Are you willing to risk my life like that?”

Poor N, they can be guilt tripped into so many things.

But who knows, maybe some supernaturals would have the ability to teleport to our location and teleport us back to a hospital

I’m sure you didn’t mean this but I just had the image in my head of the Supernatural, MC, and the RO just appearing in the lobby of the hospital in a burst of light a la Star Trek and the receptionist just freaking out.

RO: We have an emergency!
Receptionist: hyperventilating

If that’s true then why doesn’t N already know how to drive???

I just…damnit, N, you’re perfect in all ways but one. :sob:

I can handle disliking modern technology, I’m ok with them not understanding my memes, I accept the fact that N probably won’t like Star Wars, but good god, learn how to drive.

That said, it’d be nice if N would realize the importance of learning to drive for emergencies now that they have a constant human companion (romanced or not).

N: [very seriously] A, I have something very important to request of you.

A: [puts down the book they’re reading and frowns] Of course, my friend, what is it?

N: I realize now that…in the unlikely event of the Detective being incapable, and you and F becoming indisposed, it would fall to either myself or M to take up responsibility for the Detective’s safety.

A: N, you needn’t worry about that.

N: I know, but…even so, I would like to avoid pawning what could be my responsibility off to M.

A: [softly] N, what are you asking?

N: …I would like you, my oldest friend, to teach me to drive.

A: [drops the book] Wait, you— [exhales shakily]

N: I know, I know it’s been decades of me refusing but—wait, are you crying?

A: [furiously wiping their eyes] I’m not! I’m not! I’m just…so relieved. [sobs quietly]

Guys… I have a question.

Was A the one who taught F how to drive?

Edit: I mean if N doesn’t know it’s probably not required by the Agency to learn so F probably didn’t have a teacher for that. Did F approach A wanting to learn and A was like “proud sob I’d be honored.” And F realized half way through their first lesson it was a mistake but A wouldn’t let them back out

The image of A and F in a car, driving in circles in a parking lot for hours so that F can get the basics—A’s hand hovering over the wheel, “just in case”—is so cute. And then they go out for ice-cream because F earned it, dang it.

F: A!!!

A: [inhales and exhales slowly]

F: A!!!

A: …yes?

F: Will you help me find a license?

A: …pardon?

F: One of the other agents just showed me their sweet Agency-assigned vehicle and I asked them if I could drive it but they said I needed something called a license, do you know where I can find one?

A: Ah! Well then, this really is something I can help you with. [chuckles lightly]

F: [stares blankly]

A: Never mind. [sighs] When they said license, they meant license to drive.

F: Oh. How do I find one of those?

A: You don’t find one, you’re given one when you pass a driving test.

F: [groans] A teeeeeeeest? Euuuuuugh… Now I have to go find N…

A: [bursts into laughter]

F: [takes a step back out of fear]

A: [mumbles to themself] I wish. [to Felix] No, no I can teach you, and then you can pass your test, and then you can drive all the Agency-assigned vehicles you like. Simple as that.

F: [gasp] Really??? You would do that for me???

A: Of course, we can start practicing right now.

[six months later]

F: [sigh] Can we practice on the road yet?

A: We can practice on the road when you check your blind spots!

F: [incoherent sobbing]

edit:
@Hannah_Minger your headcanon was much cuter, I suggest everyone read hers instead, lol

I got the feeling that A doesn’t drive like an old lady. He’s a mechanic and he loves classic cars, I haven’t met a mechanic who doesn’t appreciate speed in their cars.

Rin walks into her office, and instantly, she feels something is off. Squinting her eyes, she carefully looked around from the door. Nothing look out of place, but there was… something.

TUD
Agh!

“…”
“Felix…? Is that you…?”

From under her desk, a familiar voice said.

“No! It’s not! Go away!”
“Felix, what the hell are you doing under my desk”.
“The question is, why are you here sooner than you said you were going to”
“I wanted to advance in some of the paperwork”
sigh
“Fine, ruin your own surprise”

Crawling from under her desk, Felix came out, trying to hide something behind his back. Raising an eyebrow, Rin looked at him inquisitive.

“Close your eyes, Detective”
“Really Felix, right here”

Giving her his best smile, he said.

“Please?”
“Fine” she said with a slight frown trying to hide her amusement.

She could hear Felix stepping closer, stopping right in front of her.

“Ok, you can open your eyes now”

As she did, the first thing she saw was a chocolate cake, with the words HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RIN in golden frosting. She was not expecting that, at all.

“How did you know?”
“Does it really matter, Rin?”

Smiling softly, she looked down, meting his eyes, a soft smile in her face.

“I guess it doesn’t”

Stepping closer, Felix gave her a slow kiss, right next to her lips.

“Happy birthday, Detective”

I saw the cake next to your name, I hope is your actual birthday and not a random date you entered :joy:

Whaaaaaaa? I don’t see a cake!

Boring old lady time, I agree vehemently with this statement. M would hate driving with me, because I drive precisely at the speed limit, not one mile over, I never speed up at yellow lights to try to get through before the red, and I am very cautious about right hand turns on red lights, because I don’t trust other drivers.

Present it to him as an interpretation of the classical hero’s journey, and he might!

Good on you, A.
