I like the premise but the story feels a bit weird? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to explain this correctly but I’ll try. So like the mc is supposed to be the player right? However when I play the game it feels like the mc isn’t. For example, instead of feeling like the mc, it feels like I’m forcing the mc to go along with me since I don’t really see the need to involve myself with the cast (I just want to train, get stronger to survive and mind my own business. I’m not interested in playing hero or villain, I just want to be the strongest background character until the final.) but it feels like the mc constantly wants to insert themselves in the narrative. For example, at the start I didn’t approach Kazuki and not long after I got another choice to approach them then at the festival, whether we chose to try to find someone or not, the mc still looks around for someone interesting to talk to that could be part of the hero party. I wouldn’t do that since I’m an introvert, even if I wanted to gather more info I’ll just observe from afar. Then there’s the time Arai was arguing about the team he got placed in with the teachers, we get a choice to get involved here too even if we never interacted with him. I understand that some people may want to do that but the constant “should I go involve myself in this” from the mc is a bit jarring since I’ve been avoiding involving myself with the cast till now which made it feel like I’m forcing the mc to do something they wouldn’t have done. I feel like giving the mc a choice from the start about whether to get involved with the cast or not and have it reflected in the story would make the story flow better?
It’s not as if I’m asking for them to be removed completely since there’s apparently a crowd of people who like that stuff. It’s worth mentioning moderation is key here, since if this game can meet the expectations of even a quarter of the people here it’ll be quite replayable and fake choices can only make that annoying. Of course I’m not trying to tell you what to do here, do as you please.
At this point it might be a good idea to make an “End of Demo” page, explaining there’s nothing further to see but the player can still raid dungeons.
Otherwise there’ll be a lot more posts saying things like “Guys, I made it to day 350 but nothing is happening, is the game bugged? ”
I hope you don’t take the story this way (not talking about the lying about your past thing, that would be funny, maybe even a running gag where your fake story gets more and more unbelieavable but characters keep buying it) since I like being in the middle of a regular shounen more, but if you ever decide to let players make meta comments or even let characters learn they aren’t real eventually, I’d like the opportunity to question them more on certain things and have the MC comment on the author making a half-assed job.
Kawabata: “My father died of a sickness, I want to follow in his steps.”
MC: “Damn, that’s sad (I don’t remember asking), what was he sick with?”
Kawabata:“I don’t kno- I mean, I don’t remember. It was bad though”
MC: (Could’ve just said magic cancer)
Other than that, I’d like Arai to be leaning less into socially awkward and more into out of touch rich guy since he’d clash better with the protagonist that way.
Sometimes I can't tell what his character is supposed to be
I agree with the MC’s personality being set to be a generic confused guy, I’m currently hoping this changes after or close to the freshmen tournament and this is just a desperate attempt at making the player learn more about the characters and lore. A prologue if you will.
I want my psychopathic MC who sees everyone else as worthless pieces of paper and not real people, we might simply never go that way though. In which case, I suppose we’d better get used to it.
Nah this is a masterpiece a pure masterpiece ain’t no way how did you think about this everything is perfect nah my blood is boiling my Blood is Boiling
As promised, you can now access the demo via the link in the main post and play the new content. Remember, this update brings over +11K words of new content, including the rest of the week’s classes and some additional scenes.
I’ll focus on fixing these issues and release a hotfix as soon as possible!!
Yep
I always need to give players opportunities to interact with the characters, after all, there are many ways to act in the story. Maybe someone is playing an MC who avoids other characters until the right moment, and the “right moment” could be any of these. If your MC just isn’t the type who wants to interact, you can choose not to. Unfortunately, I can’t make this 100% perfect.
And sometimes, I have to force the MC’s actions in certain scenes to ensure important things happen—like making them go to class to learn something crucial for the story.
Please let me know if the number of fake choices feels unbalanced!
I had one but forgot to include it in the last update, but I included it back in this one.
I might have given the wrong impression, but these moments weren’t supposed to feel like “socially awkward.” Initially, Arai’s personality was meant to be extremely egotistical to the point of being insufferable, but I’ve been tweaking that a bit lately because if someone goes for his friendship route, well, there has to be at least a little “friendship.” Basically, he’s still egocentric and annoying, but when someone sticks by him, he has some more “humble” moments, even if he doesn’t like acting like it. I’ll develop this side of him further as the MC’s friendship with Arai grows (if the player chooses that route, of course).
At the start of the game, which option do you usually pick?Play Intro, Skip Intro, Skip to New Content, or Skip to Free Mode?
So i have a question regarding the magic spells we will be able to learn, especially the IPR MTI, as i was wondering since we only can buy the blazing hammer magic spell, which is a physical spell, does that mean that the IPRs spells will likely focus more on physical powers and is a…you could say melee close combat class, or will we also be able to do magic that is not for close combat, like maybe explosives etc.? Hope that makes sense.
Is the training scene broken for anyone else? After both unlocking the Fireball spell or just giving up I get this error message:
‘‘Calendar line 33: invalid return; we’ve already returned from the last gosub’’
I’ve tried both on my previous save and on a fresh playthrough and I get the error on both. Is that just where the demo ends if you choose that path or is there something funky going on there?
Damn, that’s weird. I just tried another fresh playthrough and I keep getting the same bug. Maybe it’s something related to my class or one of my stats
EDIT: Nevermind, somehow it just fixed itself today
Everytime i try to created a save im getting the message that *Strange is full. Please delete old saved or make room" or something like that i dont have any saved ganes on this demo.^^’
