The Ultimate Magic Student (WIP) (168K) (+11K 06/01)

I think it’s just two. In the original story, you would be in the last as an background character (or maybe more, we still don’t know for sure the impact of our character in the story in the original). But that could change if you get to be friends with Kawabata and Usui and then accept the offer of Funai to be in the team of Kawabata. At least that’s the only ways that I got to know

All I know is, I’ve somehow become the typical male friend alongside the protag and heroine. Got the glasses, the slightly aloof nature, the prim appearance, and the hint of romantic interest in Kawabata all down. Now to be secretly op, and the cake is ready.:rofl::+1:

But seriously, this is interesting and I can’t wait for more. I think it’ll be funny to romance Kawabata. Gonna turn this shonen manga into a BL!! :face_blowing_a_kiss::fu::rofl:

On a side note, I got the error but when I added /my game to the url, the demo worked.

Ok, just wondering with we could get paired up with the rival or his gf. I get the feeling that they could be the villains early on, until a season or 2 where they join the group when a real villain shows up. So honestly I don’t see them aa villains, just antagonists.

My thought is, if we don’t have a backstory, can we just manifest our backstory then? Lol. Tell everyone our parents are super rich and always out of country, and eventually it becomes a fact.

Or maybe if we are involved in enough main events, we go from side character to now part of the main cast and now Manga God needs to give us an actual backstory, which is either tragic orphan or parents always gone on business trips?

Maybe that’s our reward for surviving the end of the year. Exp and backstory. Congrats, you’re alive and now you have family relations!! :tada:

I can’t access the game through the link

Add /mygame to end of url.

This has been quite any info from the author

The way I view is that we were an afterthought just tossed in there to have an existential crisis knowing forth wall information. Maybe the writer is writing our choices that we think we made and having no backstory fits our role perfectly. An experiment to see how far our MC can derail the story or stick to the script. The MC just feels like an deleted scene in a movie in my opinion

or just hear me out, the writer simply didn’t give MC backstory, like it is common to not give a character who is main or side character a backstory, take Aizen from bleach, the author didn’t want anyone to care about they backstory and what do you know, Aizen became one of the best villains in anime

It isn’t strange for our character to have just been another nobody background character simply drawn to fill in one of the seats in the classroom.

And in fact, based on our quest to survive, it’s apparent we were designed to be an expendable. A doomed to die character. A stepping stool to boost another character’s, maybe the protag, character development.

Yeah, the MC was just a character appearing in the background so of course he won’t have a backstory. Hell, it’s already lucky he has a name at all. I doubt he had any lines at all in the original story.

So does anything actually happen? Fter getting the survive mission all I get is the dungeon and going through the days

If you reach the dungeon, then your done. There’s nothing after that, for now.

Is 5000 currency a lot for a chapter in the shop? It’s about twice as much as a piece of equipment, but the starting currency is enough to buy two chapters. I think it might be good to have a scene where some money is spent on common groceries to give a scale of how much money is how much. Maybe when breakfast is being chosen it could have the price next to it?

0.1.4b is here, and it’s Public!

Hey guys!

Time for a fresh update — version 0.1.4b is now live(and completely free)! This one adds over 9K words in total: 2K lines of code and 7K words of new content.

I ended up rewriting a bunch of things, and also added some cheats for anyone who wants to use them.

If you want to see every little change and addition, check out the full dev log here: Patreon Post

Also, tomorrow I’ll be dropping update 0.1.4c exclusively on Patreon with over 11K new words.
What’s coming in that one?

  • The rest of the week’s classes
  • A training session with Usui and Kawabata (if you’re able to go)
  • New scenes featuring Arai, Fukushima, Kawabata, Usui, and a quick moment with a trio of delinquents
  • Plus: if you bought a manga chapter, you’ll be able to use it to unlock a special scene

Early Access for this one will be only a week — on June 1st it becomes public! Aaand on that same day, version 0.1.4d rolls into Early Access (no clue how big that one’s going to be yet).

I already updated the link in the main post :call_me_hand:

Hey, guys!

The Early Access for version 0.1.4c is now online for Patreon subscribers.

Just a reminder that this update brings over +11K words (pure content, almost no code) on top of the 9K words from yesterday’s update, totaling 20K words.

If you’re already part of Patreon and want to play, or if you want to join, just head over to:

I think the premise of this IF hasn’t been very clear, and I believe it’s my fault. When I first had this idea back in 2020, I was just a teenage boy, so when I picked it back up in 2024, I honestly thought it was pretty silly and decided to make it as a parody.

However, over time, I realized that I actually enjoy trying to turn this silly premise into something genuinely interesting more than just making it a parody. I understand your doubts and disappointment about this :smiling_face_with_tear: But, yeah, I think currently the story is more shounen and less parody.

About the period joke, it’s more about showing Arai’s personality. The fictional anime is, yes, an anime made for teenage boys, and Arai is perhaps the biggest embodiment of that. None of the other characters have that kind of humor, so don’t worry—but if you’re going for Arai’s route, well… that’s how he is.

Lately, I’ve been paying more attention to the feeling of the story. I believe that right now, it seems more aimed at a male audience because it follows a premise commonly seen in shounen stories for boys, and also because, since the story is in first person and I’m a man, I end up writing a bit from my own perspective. But I actually want to write a story for anyone, regardless of gender! Actually I’ve even been watching a female friend of mine play my game to get her opinion for that very reason, haha.

Remember that I have no problem with criticism or suggestions, so if you think something could be improved and have ideas on how, feel free to share! I insist!

We’ll see…

I don’t plan on adding any more romanceable characters beyond the ones already announced. I’d rather focus on the current romances and then, eventually, consider other options. We’ll see!

I like to tell you the word count so you know whether you prefer to play right away or wait for the next update to have more content. But in the future, I’ll make sure to clarify exactly where the word divisions are to make it clearer for you!

(By the way, I made adjustments to all the points you mentioned in this latest update according to your suggestions, which were really helpful!)

I’m actually having a bit of trouble adding interactivity to this part of the story because there are a lot of necessary exposition moments. But I’m paying attention to it! Besides, I’ve added some new dialogues and options (including the one you wanted) to give more player input!!

In this case, I agree with @bebelia! When I read IFs, I like it when there’s a moment where I can express or show how my character thinks, even if it doesn’t change anything, just for the roleplay. Plus, they can be good for the pacing of the story when it’s a text-heavy section. But I know that overusing this makes the game really boring, so I try not to do it too much. Still, come on, the game already has plenty of choices that actually influence the scene and relationships with the characters. A fake choice or two here and there doesn’t hurt, right?

Perfect explanation. I couldn’t have said it better. And that plushie scene is exactly that: even though you’re self-aware now, you’re still an NPC.

Hey, good idea! I think you lying about your family and past is a pretty cool idea, and maybe I’ll add it to the game. (But whether the made-up story will become true or not, that’s another thing lol).

The update was really fun one but I noticed one bug though is that if you try to summon the blazing hammer while it is already summoned it crashes the game.

Also it seems like summoning the hammer one time summons it forever not sure if that’s intended or not

maybe an easier way to do the blazing hammer thing instead making it a summoned item maybe have it just as an option when you attack if you know the spell like have each swing cost 1 mana or something like that.

As a lady myself, I still really enjoy good shonen manga. Plus I tend to play male characters, so this is a fun and playful take on a typical manga so far. Though I will be fighting the heroine for Kawabata’s attention.

The demo stops at the introduction of the dungeon.
