I wonder what role will Nationalities have especially if we decide to help villains or set ourselves as some sort of tactical genius. @ZCometa
I would like to ask if you will set generic area options of nationalities ? you cant represent every nationality. But i think for example turning Latvia Lithunia Estonia into Baltic, or Having Sweden Denmark etc in Scandinavia etc would be helpfull, Basically allow players to have MC originating from countries that are not influential enough to be represented individually but represented as Area.
Remember that all Mirai Academy students were chosen from their countries. If you are a genius, of course your country will be more praised, but if you choose to be a villain… Well.
This is a really good idea. I think I will do the main countries first and then the generic areas. But it will probably take some time until I do it.
Tis fine. You’re doing pretty well in terms of grammar mostly. I’ll be keeping an eye out for grmmar errors in the future. (btw the names of languages as well as ‘things that belong to a country’ are also capitalised. see: Spanish food, Coptic language etc.)
I’m pretty curious on how the story will work. (no spoilers ofc XD) So a show that’s literally full of cliches somehow became the worldn’s most popular? I’m kinda expecting it to be a satire, have a deep meaning hidden behind its cliched story, really interesting charactrs and an examination of the reality of such a world, or something unexpected… People have good tastes… right?
Another point is that England is a part of the UK which is a different thing.so British people is from the UK including but not limited to England.
I would like to sees some other countries that i find really interesting (Iran, India, Philippines) in the game but if it makes it harder to code then don’t worry about it. (my own country (China) is there so I won’t complain haha)
I do love just reading the country descriptions that are so positive, brings a smile to my face
I see, thanks! Everything will be fixed in the next update ^^
Well, not every popular anime is popular because of the story itself. But of course, I guarantee you that the story will be much more than it really appears to be.
at first it was “englishman” and “englishwoman”, but in the first update I switched to “British”. But that’s okay, many changes will be made to nationalities in the next updates.
Yep, that’s actually the plan. Iran and India was already part of the idea. ^^ I plan to include them in a nationality’s update, with many others countries/areas.
Well that’s really exciting! Looking forward to it! No pressure
(I thought that in this reality Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all left the UK leaving England all lonely lol)
Yeah… as you can tell I’m really unfamiliar with this stuff XD But that sounds intriguing, can’t wait to see what you have in store!
Also it’s impressive that you’re writing this in two languages! Despite being bilingual I can only comfortably write creatively in English (to varing degrees of success). Double(ish) the workload as well! Hats off to that
PPPS: ‘Mayan’? Interesting choice. The Mayan Civilisation is mostly around the southern point of Mexico with regions in Guatemala and a couple other countries. I sorta expected the Aztecs to be more prominent (since it’s where Mexico got its name and flag) but it’s cool otherwise. (thinking about it now it makes more sense since the Mayans have been around for far longer) (Shame that all the Mayan books are burnt so we’ve lost a wealth of knowledge there. Would love to see their military treatises for a land without horses)
I wonder if the idea is inspired from watching the “my next life as villainess, all routes lead to doom” or Bakarina.
Do our mc, I mean the player already knows things before it happens?
Does our role is to support the real mc of the story or we have our own story?
Don’t want to spoil, but the Maya on this timeline did not decline, actually they grew with their magic. The Mexican culture is sure to be one of the most interesting ones ( at least they are in my notes here lol )
I fixed all the errors you pointed, but it’ll come in the next update (It’s almost done! Next week for sure)
I did heard of that anime, but I really never saw it! xD Only after you said that I find out that the protagonist of this anime is in a situation similar to our PC. The idea is inspired in a novel called “The Novel’s Extra”. In the future I may even talk more about it. ^^
Yes, they know. And nope, you are free to do whatever you want.
A Maya-Aztec fusion culture that is thriving past the colonial era? sign me up! I wonder if full on human sacrifices are still a thing. Hopefully not haha. Though the Mayan sacrificial practice of taking blood onto items then burning them may still survive since it’s way less… extreme. Blood is pretty important for them I think since it contains the chu’lel (my pre Columbian history is a little rusty). Hey that could be part of their magic system!
Speaking of magic systems I have some thoughts on what sort of stuff the traditional Chinese magic could work around. So. Many. Ideas.
Sorry about the ramble I do love alternate history, especially one involving magic. (Ahhh designing magic systems from the different cultures would be so fun) Anyways. Looking forward to the next update! The lore is really fun to read.
That’s a print of my google sheets with all my notes and informations about the systems (almost of them) and I can assure you that the magic system will be maybe a bit complex if you know what I mean lmao and of course I scratched all the info in there 'cause I don’t wanna spoil anyone
…Yes? Hey, I really liked that! Some ideas popped out right now
I don’t have anything exclusive for China in the magic system, but if you wanna gimme some ideas, of course I will listen! ^^ After all you know more about your culture than I lol
Hey! Great project you have here. The idea is very interesting and I’ll be sure to keep an eye on it. I have a few things that I picked up on throughout the demo. I played both in languages and there may be some comments in Portuguese here since it’s easier for me to formulate.
Summary
I chose the Brazilian background and, personally, I think it’d be better to say Carnaval instead of Carnival, since it’s the actual name of the holiday in our native tongue and it’d add more flavor to it, but I understand if you disagree.
Eu vi que, tanto na versão BR quanto em inglês, vc usou “longitude” pra definir o tamanho do prédio. Acho que nas duas versões, “comprimento” (length) encaixaria melhor e daria mais naturalidade na descrição.
Aqui, você usou o “proposal” duas vezes seguidas onde daria pra juntar esses dois e deixar menos repetitivo, tipo: sponsorship and employment proposals.
A impressão que eu tive com o “1001 ahead” é que tá se referindo aos números na frente do 1001, como o 1000, e não os que tão abaixo. Talvez um bom substituto seria “1001 and below”
Ah I mentioned it because it sound quite similar and I enjoyed the anime very much. It focused more on romance and it quite funny that she basically made a harem without herself being aware of it. I see. So it’s inspired from a novel. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the demo~.
So does that mean even if we didn’t help out the main mc, the main storyline would just go on normally? I mean is there any chance that something will actually be different from what our mc remembered? An irregularity?
For example, this character supposed to die that day, with our mc interference the character would survive but if our mc didn’t interfere then is there any chance the character will survive at all?
Yeah Pre-Columbian cultures are honestly fascinating. Let’s stick with Mesoamerica for now (since i’m most familiar with it), the Aztecs and the Mayans thought that the gods maintains the world, but maintaining everything requires energy so blood sacrifices and offerings are used to supply the gods so the world won’t, y’know, collapse.
(PS: for clarification the blood thing is more like drip blood onto stuff like paper then setting the paper on fire.)
Ah coolio! So the obvious choice would be xianxia based systems with qi cultivation and all that, but imo that’s a little overdone so we could do with something a little different. (though i think qi could certainly be incorportated if we go with the ‘life force’ thing with chakra, mana and chu’lel stuff like that).
One idea is maybe incorporate religion into it. China has a weird combination of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism as philosophies of life (hey maybe add some influences from whatever you come up with for Indian magic for the Buddhist branch) They all heavily interplay with each other… Maybe have peach wood have magical properties (since in folk Taoism it has the ability to deter evil spirits) Possiby some meditative healing magic to reflect the Chan Buddhism (widely known as Zen, a sect that is heavily influenced by the local Taoist practices).
Forgive my ramblings but let’s examine the cultural climate and the interplay between the three philosphies: So Taoism functions very much as a coutner to Confucianism which tell you how to integrate into society whereas Taoism tells you to be detached. Buddhism however is seen as a sort of ‘foreign Taoism’ with most of the terminology translated in Taoist vocabulary. Hence why I think the focus on Taoist concepts could be more relevant. (though the Chinese Buddhist magics may incorporate mantras, maybe Iron Body too as a reference to typical Buddhist martial arts depicted in wuxia. Though as a martial artist who can actually fight with the traditional Chinese arts, depictions of them as mythical techniques and whatever bs is so painful to read…)
On the topic of the Chinese martial arts, you could have a look at qigong, a health practice that commonly accompany and supplement the martial training that improves alignment and just general health. really interesting thing by itself. Will not make this post longer than it already is lol. One thing most of the arts employ is the concept of taiji (or in popular terms, yinyang) which leads neatly onto the main idea.
In Taoism taiji (extreme polarities) is an important concept (everything is dual, but there is some of yang in the yin and vice versa. it is NOT good and evil as is with the popular interpretation), accompanied by the Bagua (eight trigrams), the Wuxing (five elements) and some others. So my idea is employ concepts explored in the Yijing, the 3000 year old Book of Changes, specifically on the Trigrams. Each trigram is composed of three solid or broken lines representing yin and yang with each combination representing a particular concept. For example the Kun trigram is made from three yin lines and represents the Earth, the Xun trigram is two yang and one yin, representing the wind. And the trigrams combine to make 64 hexagrams each with their own properties.
So the central idea of the magic is ‘change’. Using and combining the trigrams and hexagrams to generate different effects while being able to flow into the next hexagram/trigram. The interpretation of the hexagrams can apply to basically everything (eg. Heaven + Water = Conflict) so is versatile. Also, like the Wuxing, the trigrams denote elements that generate ‘the myriad things’. I could go on all day but hopefully my ramblings gives you inspirations aplenty
Please feel free to ask any clarifications or discuss anything that piques your interest. Worldbuilding is kinda an obsession of mine at this point lol. Thanks for your time haha.
So, basically the fact that the PC shouldn’t be there in the first place is already an irregularity. The original plot will go on only if you want it to be like that.
I have to warn you that maybe you change the story without even realizing it. So, yeah, maybe the character dies cause you didn’t do anything or he survives cause you did something, but whitout meaning to.
I actually know something about it xD I had my days of xianxia novels reader lmao
The magic will be known worldwide as “mana”, but of course each country and area will have it’s own way of calling and using it. In addition, each country also has its own training method.
I read everything and it’s really very cool and interesting. The first bimester on the game will be focused on a worldwise magic system, but in the next one it can be for sure one inspired in chinese culture!
…you aren’t planning on doing a bimester on every single culture you include are you? Or is it like selective coursework? Because that sounds like hell to code XD
So will the plot become more realistic based on the level of interaction with the player? Or will things still be outlandish in some parts?
