That’s the thing, it’s stupid. When Richard is naive and idealistic, actively fucking over the kingdom solely because “I don’t wanna”, everyone loves him. When i’m idealistic in a way that literally brings the kingdom an alliance (treating Xavier well), everyone thinks i’m a naive loser who’s unfit to be King.

Fuuuuck it’s the same point over and over again. MC’s ruleship is undermined. Everyone knows this. You have two three ways of dealing with this:
- Get over it.
- Off with their heads!
- Don’t be chosen by a sword and enjoy the show on the sidelines
See, this game’s not about how perfect Richard is. He’s utterly pathetic. He’s worse than Freya. Sure she wants to be ridden by ahoy-matey-Ernald but that’s it. Hell, rig the game with stat editing and see him as chosen. His decisions are worse that Atheris’ and MC’s (except who acts like Richard). He cares about getting Clara. He’s basically Matteo who’s obsessed with our mom to the point of commiting regicide and forcing Charles’ kids to sort out the mess, which hurts kingdom much more since it’s getting rookie-ruler at the time of war and division

But that’s the problem, you don’t have any option to do anything - even if the queen is undermining your reign, the fact that apparently no one seems to like you when, in real monarchies, you had people fighting for several decades over literal child rulers solely because they were legitimate, is just a railroad.
Furthermore, it seems like the game is either forcing you to be some overtly cruel caligula who kicks puppies for fun or be hated by everyone. You can’t convince the man not to beat the children, you have to either let them be assaulted or get hated by literally everyone because “You protected thieves!”. Of course, the other siblings don’t face this problem.
I mean, it’s a game called Sword of Rhivenia, and yet you don’t use your sword. It’s like the game is punishing you for wanting to be the king instead of Preeecious Riiichard, who can never be wrong or disliked by normal people

Yeah exactly, they like Atheris because she is “Fierce and Strong” but i did a re-read and they dislike her because she is a Jerkass lol, but they like Richard cus he is prince charming like i said before and they either fear the MC for being Atheris 2.0 or see the MC as downgraded version of Richard

To be fair Richard is basicaly “Prince Charming” so he gets a free pass by the population cus they love him, and everyone is kinda afraid of Atheris so they can’t exaclty complain about what she does lol
The MC is just the weak link so of course they are going to try undermine the guy almost daily, but i wonder why the hell couldn’t Richard and Atheris show their support if you had good relationship with them
My problem isn’t that he’s Prince Charming, it’s that you cannot do anything to help your reputation. It wouldn’t even be a problem if richard still had a bunch of loyalists, what with his mom - the problem is that it seems like literally everyone hates you for no good reason, even if you do extremely well for someone who’s only been on the throne for like, a month at best.
There’s just no way to prove yourself. The game itself seems to have decided that no matter what, you are incompetent, weak, and foolish. It doesn’t matter that you let Astryn rot with poison for her actions - which, by the way, is the only thing you can do. Why can you promisse to hang Erwan’s head on the wall but not do the same with her sister? It doesn’t matter that you stabbed Matteo with your own hands as revenge for your father and then burned his body - it doesn’t matter that you allied with Lena and married off Richard to ensure another alliance - it doesn’t matter that you are probably one of the best Swordsmen around if you trained solely with Swordsmanship (You get no option to show it off) - it doesn’t matter that you have metric tonnes of knowledge - it doesn’t matter that fucking Namherys himself chose you - nothing matters.
That’s it. None of your actions matter. That’s my problem.

You’re right that he’s pathetic. I initially started by thinking “Oh, he’s not that bad! He just likes Clara!”, but no, he’s a spineless people pleasing coward without an ounce of integrity in him. He’s obsessed with Clara - but he’ll drop her the microsecond that father even bats an eye at him. He’ll let his entire kingdom rot because he doesn’t want to marry Lena - he says he hates you solely because you married him off for the sake of the kingdom - explicitly. That’s what he says if you apologize and say that you did it for the people.
I really want to have an pious and kind but fair ruler, but Richard is really making me want to go full Sultan on his ass.

The thing about book 1 is that you just started making decisions as a ruler (if you are one). You don’t see the consequences! (yet) The masses don’t see the consequences! (yet) The enemies don’t see the consequences! (yet) Book 1 ends with allies arriving for a feast where we can start seeing the consequences of our decisions (i. e. political marriages) but it just ends as a cliffhanger

patience and responsibility to care for others is essential for a ruler and she has neither

Atheris is arrogant, but when you become king, she doesn’t throw a tantrum and conspire to get you killed despite being the only sibling that wanted the throne other than you - even if you didn’t go out of your way to please her, she is disappointed but happy for you.
Richard is a backstabbing motherfucker - some people compare him to Francis, but Francis defended his brother. Richard doesn’t care about anything other than being an attention vortex.

The only thing that Charles did wrong was allowing that arrogant bitch of an stepmother to remain around instead of dumping her ass on the street. Also, why the fuck can’t you do that? She literally tells you to your face that she wants to see you fail, and yet you can’t touch her?

The thing with “stepmother” is that MC’s mom poisoned Isabelle to make her infertile while she was pregnant with 2nd child. This blew up right back at our mom to the point of not caring for her children (absenty for Atheris, Freya and MC). Charles loved Isabelle up until his death. He hated our mom for what she did. That’s why Atheris comments at the start of the game that mom and Charles’ marriage is not out of love (anymore?)

“I don’t want to get married because Queen Lena will have a lot of power” How? she is not in the castle and she is not the one who is getting married but her brother who I love him very much but I do not think he has the ability or intelligence to take away the crown
swallow your pride and get married (you made richard do it but you don’t do the same)
Richard is just selfish, i can marry lena the same way he is married off to that princess and you can’t even mention it.
