The Soul Stone War General Discussion Thread (Romance And Stones Guide on #6)

I think you needed 5 flirt points for her to be your lover, the guide for it also there on page 6.

Yeah, you need 5 flirt points with Daedae if you want to romance her.

I was also wondering about something. Do anyone know what the Stat requirements are for the good ending of the game? And any idea of when a save feature would be implemented?

The save feature protocol is only enacted once a sequel game enters the publishing que. This has been the CoG policy and is something not scheduled to change in the foreseeable future.

Cool! I didn’t actually know that was the protocol, but it absolutely makes a ton of sense in case the game doesn’t get a sequel.

I also struggled with the stat thing for the good ending. Apparently, what you have to do is focus on one stat and get that one stat up to 50. It could be a little less than 50, but I’d go for 50 to be sure. I kept the others down in the teens. And that got me the good end :).

Thanks a bunch! I’ll have to go through it again, to try and get a good ending then. I hated seeing my Daedae getting hurt because of me :joy:

Combat or Magic 40
Persuasion or Wit 38

With one of those you get the good ending.
Just remember the stat raise from your Soul Stone weapon comes after the check, so it does not count.

How do you get in to a romance with two I cant seem to do it

I don’t know about Morkai and Straasa but for romance with both Daelynn and Eledwen you need 5 flirt points with Daelynn and 3 flirt points for Eledwen.

So I completed this last week, and have since replayed it once. Feel like noting down my thoughts.

Good things:

I love the characters for the most part, they’re a lot of fun and I like how I’m given a chance to bond with all of them. Eledwen and Daelynns romances are good, Dae Dae moves a bit fast, but I liked that one too. Morkai is my favourite character, I need to romance him next. I do want to go for Manerkol as well, which is weird for me since I’m not normally interested in forbidden romances. Mornie too, they’re all written well and I want to see more of them.

I find most of the story interesting, I want to know more about the soul stones and Manerkol, the main plot is interesting. MCs backstory is nothing special, I’m not really itching to go back and I didn’t care about my characters dead friend, but I could see that changing.

The dialogue options are pretty good in most situations, the stuff you can say is hilarious, love the humour in this. Similarly, at times you’re given freedom to do some weird stuff, like licking the soul stone. Those moments are great.

Issues:

I have to agree with other people about player agency. I feel like the story does rail-road me, every choice game does but at times I didn’t feel like I had any agency. My character may be weak but they can surely still speak. Since other people have mentioned these games, I had a big issue with it in SOH4, to the extent that I probably won’t continue with that series, and some issues with it in Wayhaven, despite how much I like the game (if you play certain characters the story-telling starts to fall apart.) Never had a problem with Fallen Hero, since I don’t care about my characters past being determined and having a strong influence, just their present state of mind being somewhat optional, or at least how they react to things being a little choice-based.

I found the opening chapters hit or miss. The branch where you almost get mugged at night seems weirdly paced, and I hesitated to purchase the game for a few days after Daelynns introduction, which I thought was odd. There are a few highs and lows in this one, sometimes I felt like skipping the dialogue, but most of the time I enjoyed myself.

Stats seem a bit tricky to me, I’ve been locked out of some dialogue options and I’m not sure why that happens. It feels like if I make one or two choices that don’t adhere to a specific personality, the game struggles to handle it. This is a problem in a lot of Hosted Games titles, but I really liked this one so I feel like mentioning it.

Overall I liked this, but have a few notable issues with it that I think could be improved. Will look out for the next game, I did enjoy this a lot despite my issues, and I hope my thoughts made sense.

@Morgan_V

This was such a great story and the character development of each of the characters was very well thought out.

I absolutely loved the Mornie character I didn’t expect to want to pursue them as a RO but in the end she definitely made the most sense as a romance option for my MC. It was great seeing how the MC reacted to his attraction to her and how he was torn between his attraction to her and the anger he had for her as a enemy.

I wish there would have been more interaction between them though but it will be cool to see how the relationship progresses in the future.

One thing I did find extremely wierd was how right or left everyone was to the MC and it never really got explained why. And it was so wierd it got to the point where I feel like it needed an explanation. I mean it’s like either a person couldn’t stand the MC or they were in love them from the first moment they met. And it’s pretty suspicious that the fact that 4 different people basically fell in love with the MC after knowing for barely a minute and and those 4 end up being Soul Stone Wielders not to mention Manerkol as well who is obvisouky obsessed with the MC. But I’m guessing this may be expounded upon later in the series.

Also the MC’s backstory never fully got brought out I picked the Tridents Teeth backstory and all I found out was that the MC’s brother died or was killed and the MC was accused of killing someone else who wasn’t the brother. I’m guessing that the person the MC was accused of killing was actually the person who killed the brother but the game never said it. And if I didn’t kill my brothers murderer who did? And why does everyone think it was me?

Umm, the part about dialogues being locked seems to be based on flirt options! The greyed out options are only flirt/friendmance, and they are greyed out depending on how many points you have of this stats

Also, I just wanted to clarify that Mornie is not a romance. Reading some of your messages it seems like you are under the impression that this is the case, and the author has said in previous ocassions that Mornie is not a RO and will not become one

I know Mornie isn’t a romance, just saying I liked her character. I positioned that bit weirdly. I’m pretty sure I’ve been locked out of bold flirt options despite being bold and flirty most of the time.

I’m curious to know if it’s also another stat that determines things, there have been a few occasions where my bold/shy character couldn’t do the kind of options they’d already been doing.

@Luana_Bellotti Yes, every character will get intense, intimate scenes with the MC, but they all move at different speeds! Straasa and Eledwen open up the slowest, followed by Morkai and then Daelynn. And Manerkol is the outlier because no one expected him to bond with the MC—not even he! Who knows how he would have behaved if this was a normal courtship…

@Bookz23 Yes, of course you may ask  Sorry for the late reply, I just returned from my vacation! As for your question, the MC’s intuition works twofold: it gives them warnings of things just about to happen, and it allows them to dreamwalk. Dreamwalking can be amazingly powerful and has many uses, but the MC has not trained in that at all, so that’s why it’s more of a detriment right now because of Manerkol.

But should you choose to, this ability can be developed further, leading to some very interesting powers down the line. But, of course, everything has its risks. And I will let you see for yourself whether you gain other abilities or Stones

As for my inspiration, it came from many different fantasy books and my own imagination

As for the locked dialogue options, @Akme2000, they have to do with the romance aspect of the game. There are two romance modes, flirtingmance (meaning you blatantly flirt with the characters in a shy or bold manner) and friendmance (meaning that the MC is unaware of feeling attraction and the romance progresses in a much slower, friendlier fashion.)

If you use 2 options of one mode, then the other mode becomes unavailable because you can’t mix and match them, otherwise the romances get locked-out. The two modes have different build-ups, so mixing them does not make sense. So I decided to make the other options unavailable to help players not miss a romance they want to pursue by mixing and matching.

I have to admit, though, that the whole romance modes thing is a hot mess. People are still having difficulty triggering the romances even with some options greyed out, they think I’m denying them options while I was actually trying to help, and there’s also trouble with the polys because of mixing and matching the two modes.

I think, in the end, it was not worth it. I wanted to provide more than one way to get into the romances and more content for people that prefer to go slower, but it has backfired magnificently. And unless I simply provide a choice board saying “Who do you want to romance?” or making a disclaimer at the beginning of the game, explaining everything, or simply add (flirting) or (friendmance) next to the options involved, I can’t see this getting any clearer to players any time soon.

I’m actually considering to make an update and take the friendmance out completely, save myself the headache. The only thing keeping me back is the amount of code I would have to edit… That would be a headache by itself, and the chance for stuff to break is big. I have to decide which is the bigger hassle, though…

Noooooooooooo!!! I love the friendmances! :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: They’re such a large part of the user experience! It’d take out so much…and it’s also the most comfortable option for ace players…

Instead of taking them out entirely, maybe have a warning about it when the game starts? Something along the lines of, ‘watch your romance points carefully, you can lock yourselves out of romances if you mix friendmance points and romance points at all’. TBH, I feel like that was the only thing that wasn’t super clear even if you followed the initial pre-release information for the game. (The ‘at all’ part.) If that sort of thing is made clearly outside of forums/tumblr, it’d probably help cut down confusion and the amount of people coming to ask about it.

I mean… no need to worry. When I said ‘this means war’ I was in fact joking and figured it was going to be left there.

I don’t think 1 joking exchange about preferred characters/RO’s exactly constitutes a shipping war does it?

Unless of course my joke resulted in an actual war afterwards that I was unaware of, in which case apologies as I lost my phone temporarily (a nightmare during self-isolation :sob:) so won’t have seen it.

Me. When I realized I made all the right choices to romance Manerkol when I didnt even know he was a option. Didn’t even think I wanted to romance him but apparently I have issues hehe. :joy:

Haha! There have been a couple of people that have achieved this without the need for the guide! It’s always very amusing to see :smiling_imp: Your villain-loving instincts guided you

Also, on another note, I have submitted a change to HG: there is now a general guide to the romances in the stats page for anyone who might need help. Not a choice for choice one, of course, but more of a disclaimer not to mix the different modes, how many points are needed for the romances to lock etc etc. We’ll see how it goes, I guess.
