Imma just assume we’re all WoD fans here then. (Peak.)

I’m actually not sure what WoD is but now I’d like to know :eyes:

WoD is World of Darkness, the collective IP that includes stuff like Werewolf and Vampire: the Masquerade.

As @JBento said, there’s a bunch of different games in the WoD IP and depending on the scenario you play and your GM you can generally romance straight up eldritch abominations of flesh, magic, literal dreams and insanity.

Ahh I see, I only know of Vampire: the Masquerade and always wanted to play it but haven’t gotten around to it yet. But omg, romancing eldritch abominations and dreams and magic(???) sounds right up my alley

Wait a minute… you said everyone except M was a monster. Does that mean our ex (Jaelyn) is one too?! For some reason I thought shadows couldn’t cross to our world unless in specific locations… Unless he’s a different kind of monster.

.

Also, IMO, by-the-lore “Vampire: The Masquerade” is probably the worst campaign to pursue any serious romance. Vampires in WOD are undead creatures (meaning their bodies can’t and won’t get any satisfaction out of intimate encounters, unless they use their powers to imitate life).

And secondly, they are extremely scheming and manipulative by nature, and romance, in general, is considered a weakness. A lover is usually nothing more than a blood-bag or a pawn in their “grand game”. To love someone is to lower your guard, to expose your secrets, and that is something a power-hungry parasite cannot afford in a society filled with similar monsters.

Honestly, the scheming and back-stabbing make for interesting stories at first but once you realize that’s 90% of all there is to vampire campaigns, then it becomes tiresome. I’m only somewhat experienced in V:TM* so I can’t speak for the fae, werewolves or demon campaigns.

*Experienced in games and fiction only, not tabletop.

There’s also a Call of Cthulhu tabletop game.

Was referring to tabletop, far more freedom in tabletop.
Also they’re not all power hungry psychopaths that use everyone without any attachment (it’s more the older Kindred that are like that and those who heavily involve themselves with the Camarilla), it’s just that the games tend to focus on the more f#cked up ones for entertainment value due to limits that aren’t in tabletop, you just gotta be creative in tabletop (and ofc cheese tf out of everything.)

They do, it’s just that feeding is what gets them going, they can still enjoy the act as long as they’re sipping from their partner (this also goes for Kindred x Kindred romance, just can’t do it often or risk a blood bond (oh btw Blood Marriages are a thing, it’s when two Kindred blood bond to each other mutually), could use one of the Kine as a third wheel to feed from together to get around that though.)
Same with other forms of pleasure like drugs, alcohol and even just really good food, just gotta feed from one of the Kine that’s enjoying them to get the high from their blood.

Ahh no, sorry, Jaelyn is a bit of a complicated case, but they’re not the same as the main group and the villain. I just forgot to mention them

Just to make sure; the original SS doesn’t have 18+ content, does it? Wondering if I should spoil myself or just wait of the rewrite for the “complete” experience.

No the original did not

No, the original doesn’t have any NSFW content. If you haven’t already read the original I’d personally recommend waiting until the rewrite is out, since imo it’ll be of higher quality than the original in terms of plot, content and choices etc. But it’s completely up to you of course

Progress Update September

(I’ve decided to rename ‘writing updates’ to ‘progress updates’ since editing, proofreading and coding etc. are all part of working on this game aside from writing.)

This post is copy-pasted from my Patreon - you can find more frequent progress updates over there!

Hello everyone!

I finished the first draft of chapter 2 at the end of last week. It’s a little bit inaccurate to describe it as a “first draft” since I’ve released and edited chapter 2 content successively. But basically the entire chapter is finished as far as writing goes, and now I’m moving into the editing phase. I’m not only editing the final part, however, but instead going through the entire chapter.

The ending of chapter 2 turned out a little different than originally planned since I’ve moved a scene that was supposed to take place there, instead placing it somewhere during chapter 3. That leaves chapter 2 on ~64k words currently, though we’ll see if that changes.

Speaking of chapter 3: while I’m obviously not moving on to the next chapter yet, I’ve written a very basic outline for it that details some of the events that are going to take place. I plan for it to be more of a down-time chapter while also delving deeper into some things that were revealed and appeared in chapter 2.

I’m hoping to have the editing done and to release the full, finished version of chapter 2 on my Patreon the first week of October.

That’s all for now

So I’ll just leave these here in case anyone feels compelled to answer or want to give feedback but aren’t sure what exactly to give feedback on. I’d honestly love criticism or feedback of any kind, positive or negative or in-between - these questions are just there as suggestions for those who want to leave feedback and like getting suggestions on what to include

No pressure on anyone to answer anything though, ofc!

1. What general vibe/atmosphere are you getting from the story?
2. Does the behavior of the characters fit the feel of the story?
3. What do you think about the depiction of the MC? Does it feel like you have enough choice in what they say and do (sometimes a linear narrative is necessary, but I want to avoid telling the player what they think, feel or force them to do things their MC wouldn’t do)?
4. Does the end of the current demo feel abrupt, or is it appropriate pacing-wise?
5. If you read the original, what’s the rewrite like in comparison? Is there anything you feel is currently missing in the rewrite that you enjoyed in the original?
6. Any other critiques or thoughts?

  1. Serious/dark tone.
  2. Mostly, but I think the ones that DON’T are on purpose. Like, SL’s more light-hearted approach feels like it’s meant to make them more “so much more powerful than you that I don’t even care”, sort of their own “but for me, it was Tuesday”. And G was always very mad scientist/cloud cuckoolander even in the original, so I ALSO think that’s on purpose.
  3. If I thought that, I wrote it down in my comments when I played.
  4. I mean… it’s a demo? It ends when it ends. :person_shrugging:
  5. See 3.
  6. See 5.

Thanks for your answers @JBento! I really appreciate it.

Small Demo Update 04/10/2025 + Full Chapter 2 Release on Patreon

I’ve updated the public demo. This update mainly contains edits and polishing of already present content, though I’ve also added bits of new content in places where it was previously missing/awkward transitions happened.

Hopefully this should make for a smoother overall experience

I’ve also made the decision to change the name Shadowman/Shadowlady to Masked Man/Masked Lady/Masked One - it felt weird to me to keep the SM/SL name (or title) since the majority of the cast are shadow beings and up until this point is something I mainly did because I was used to it.

Chapter 2 is completed and has been released on Patreon as well!

Thanks for reading!
