I see I was already beaten to the punch by Mara, but this is patently false. In fact this is one of the two most common arguments made by the pro-uniform camp, the other being that uniforms keep kids more focused on schoolwork because the arduous task of picking their clothes and paying attention to fashion/the media/ influencers (MTV in the old days) . Both have been thoroughly debunked numerous times and are patently false. If anything uniforms widen the gap in social status and make kids pay more attention to clothes and fashionā¦not less, so they are also more of a ādistractionā to actually focusing on schoolwork.
Thatās actually the worst of both worldās and the only schools I know of that actually do this are ones in the third worldā¦where the pupils not having any suitable clothes or indeed any clothes worth mentioning might be a cause for concern. These also, invariably, consist of clearance rack cheap business-wear leftovers with a piss poor dye job and a slapped on patch that are then sold to development agencies/the UN or national governments and school districts at a significant markup to enrich already wealthy people in both the receiving country and the country of origin. 
But since weāre not in the magical third-world this is not a likely scenario for this game and the rich kids probably get theirs tailor made, properly fitted and of good quality materials so they provide a very stark contrast to the trash mentioned above that may get provided for indigent students by the school or government. But again the only schools I know of that hand out mandatory uniforms to their whole student population tend to be situated in extremely deprived areas already in wealthier countries only the poorer student have to truly settle for trash.
The place the mc is sent to here appears to a school for the affluent magical elite (and some poor charity cases) and those tend to be the worst on uniforms especially if youāre one of the charity cases then your mandatory uniform will make sure your classmates never let you forget it or live it down.
My mc at most wants a pet rock, less emotional attachment once it inevitably gets taken from him again and in a punch it can serve to bash some skulls in if need be.

Now letās really hope there are no sumptuary laws in the magical world as it does seems to indeed still be much more stratified then the already still stratified British society in general.

@ParrotWatcher Sooooooooooo, I know the question I am about to ask mmmmaaaaayyyyy have a spoilery answer, and honestly I donāt want you to give too much info either (unless you want to share more), but I was just wondering roughly how long will it take everyone to realize the mistake? Before the MC starts school? After they have already started? If itās the later, will it be a few months after? A few years? Or will they notice after the first class? If you donāt want to answer, then donāt. And Iām not trying to ask for an update or anything like that, Iām just kind of bored, found this WiP, thought it was interesting, and have a twisted sense of humor, meaning that the moment everyone finds out the truth I will probably be laughing my ass off

Iām stuck between water and air. Also will we meet the other characters later, regardless of which House we belong to?
I know weāre not supposed to be talented since weāre not the actual Chosen One, but I didnāt expect it to be to the point that the teacher second guesses themselves whether or not you actually use magic!!

Yeah; only a few things will be element-specific.
Is air still the only one with decent colored stockings and shirts? If so the choice is really, really easy. 
Also can we please get some nice boots with the breeches?
And way to go with that Charlie jerk Parrotwatcher, I assume the fire dorms are less luxurious than what water would have been and not at all to Charlieās fastidious and rarefied tastes?
On a potentially interesting tidbit, is time manipulation and travelling into the past in particular unique to the elves? In any case they seem interesting and I think it would be worthwhile for my mc to possibly seek them out.

I have to say, in light of the storyās main plot twist? I love the name The One Chosen instead of the typical āchosen oneā since we ARENāT the Chosen Oneā¢ just the one that happened to be chosen~ Brilliant!
