The Night's Militant (Updated 05/12/2022) Codex Update and Save System!

I know: I’m arguing that it should be implemented across the board.

Ok, but that doesn’t mean @Clara_Wolfenstein shouldn’t get her hopes up for a save system on a game that isn’t published.

I will definitely do my very best to implement this with the next update (which should include chapter one!)

Totally agree! A general rule I’ve found in life is that a balanced approach is best for most situations. Overindulgence, even in virtues, tends to pervert the end result. I dont think that it’s a bad thing that people value romantic love, per se; I just think that it’s a shame that when people hear the term “love”, they automatically think of a romantic relationship. Not to mention the unrealistic expectations that people have of continuing passion, based on media presentation.

But that’s a whole other beast…

Exactly. I know once a game is published it doesn’t have a save system. But when they’re still an wip it’s not only easier for those who want to explore the demo to it’s fullest but it also helps a ton for Beta testers & proofreaders before a game gets published so that they don’t have to go the game from start to finish dozens upon dozens of times to find all errors or bugs

Demo is too short to give some feedback but the blueb is very detailed lore which is clearly show that you put a lot of effort in making this story.
I believe the more succesful story here is the one with compelling lore/world settings like infinity series.

My advice is to avoid restricting reader from “self insert” themselves into the story. This is cyoa based forum so almost everyone here for self insert adventure/roleplay headcanon protagonist adventure.
Locked gender will cut your audience by half and unnameable protagonist make it even worse.
Personally gender locked is fine because it allows author to focus giving the best possible experience to half the audience which is huge already.
Highly not recommend making unnameable protagonist tho, afaik there is not a single popular release from cog/hg which have unnameable protagonist.
Also third person perspective is not popular here because it’s anti-self insert adventure here, i imagine it is not an enjoyable experience to being told that they are just a spectator for this story

I think your story got a lot of potentials but if you looking for a more successful and engaging feedback from this forum, better reduce the limitation and accomodate more for self insert adventure.

Ultimately, everyone write not for audience demand but to realize their own vision/fantasy in their mind. So yeah keep writing, if its not popular here, try another media.
Good luck

@Den Thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it!

Oh my, I wouldn’t put my title anywhere in the same league as the infinity series. One of my favorite by far!

I’m nearing the point where I’m going to be able to drop the Chapter 1 update, so I’ll be a little more candid than I was in the past.

As @geldar surmised, the prologue is more of a tone-setting, theme ridden opener and NOT the start of the MCs personal journey. The character whose perspective we follow in the prologue, Felix, is not the protagonist, though he is important to the story and to the MC. Chapter 1 will allow you to customize your Militant proper.

As far as the gender-locking issue goes, I’ve discussed it at length with several other wonderful commenters, sharing my thoughts on the matter, at least as they lie so far. I’d refer you to look back in the thread for more info. Of course, if you have a specific question that hasn’t been answered yet, I’d be more than happy to address it!

Thanks for your involvement. Happy reading! And Happy Easter to any who celebrate it!

Good evening, everyone! I’ve finished writing and coding chapter one and have added it to the demo!

This was accomplished through hyperfixation on learning Choicescript and a severe lack of sleep c:

I’ve tested it extensively, so there shouldn’t be any glaring bugs, but a community makes better pest control than a single person! Please let me know if there are any coding issues.

I’d love any feedback you wish to share! Hope you enjoy!

It seems like the prefix-choosing scene may be missing? We choose a suffix at the end but not a prefix.

EDIT: Ah. It triggers based on Private or Expressive being > or < 50. So if both are exactly 50, the scene doesn’t trigger. (Though, I don’t think mine were… it’s also possible that you cannot prompt a choice inside of an if statement. You may have to put the if statements inside of the choice statement.)

@Rav3nsblad3 looks very good with what I’ve seen and looking forward to seeing even more of the lore and the story to come. Not to mention if you ever do the night sisters side of things as well in the future would love to see that dynamic from within there shoes. Keep it up and I shall defintly be keeping a eye on the progress .

Afternoon, everyone!

I’ve drawn up a little summary of your squad members, as well as giving them and the ROs pictures!

I’ve also put a little blurb about the hierarchy of the Night’s Militant and Twilight Sisterhood!

I’m diligently working on chapter two right now, hopefully I’ll have an update for you by next Sunday, or at least a progress update if not!

Happy weekend!

Me: plays extremely serious, loyal, obedient soldier type

Everyone else in the squad: “literally none of us want you to do that, especially not your superior officer”

Haha, Casi will appreciate you and Tristan will be cool regardless, as long as you aren’t pompous, but, yeah, I get you. Felix just has a big brother complex and he feels weird when people are deferential to him!

Definitely not pompous, I’d actually say humble to a fault. But I’m also not necessarily pious nor pragmatic, so… Casi probably doesn’t like me even if he doesn’t mind me.

That’s fair. Casi is actually really hard to piss off (case and point Exter) but he is similarly hard to impress, at least without a long service record together. He is definitely more actions-oriented, so a lot of his relationship increases will come from executing your duties effectively. Don’t worry @geldar you will have the chance to make friends!

I love this. Can’t wait to test out my hopefully (if I get my stats right) fast, tactically gift knight in combat too.

Hope I live up to your expectations!
