I’m glad it reminds you of RE1–that was a big influence on my design. When it comes to survival horror games, I prefer Silent Hill to Resident Evil, but something about RE1’s design really appeals to me.
Hmm, I’ll see what I can do about the combat. Another person who tried it said she was afraid she was caught in a loop during the first battle, which feels like a related issue to this.
How much of the story do you have planned out? It may be better to sit on it until things progress. You never know, there might be some plot event that pops up down the way that you could somehow work into the title.
Otherwise… not really. I’m terrible at coming up with titles.
That’s probably a good idea. I have rough versions of the endings written and a general idea of how things progress in the middle, but you never know what might spark inspiration!
I’m working on the second floor now (and trying to decide where I should make the next cut-off point for an updated demo).
Along the lines of what @Aera was suggesting with secrets and items with special properties, I’ve added a plant to the second floor that the player can attempt to save by regularly watering it across the course of the game. It’s entirely optional, and it never tells you what the benefit might be…
I know the plant will eat the shadows chasing you around!
@SamLienhard It definitely would be interesting in my opinion to have secret items that have effects that the player will be unaware of although I hope it would not be too difficult to code for you.
Hello everyone! Sorry I haven’t said anything about The Mansion in a while. I’ve been busy with freelance writing, working on my current novel (I’m trying to finish the first draft this month so I have it out of the way in time for NaNoWriMo), and other stuff. I haven’t gotten a chance to really work on the game in a while!
Once I have this novel finished, I’m going to return to it and work on preparing a new demo that includes more of the game.
@Aera It probably wouldn’t be too difficult to code. The trick would be making it…friendly… enough for the player. Items with uses/effects that are too obscure might tick some players off.
@SamLienhard No problem, take your time. Hopefully you won’t get any problems when you start coding. I usually have trouble if I go over 10vars, but I think you can do it better than me. Oh yeah when is NaNoWriMo?
I really am still alive. I’ve gotten bogged down with working on my thesis novel and freelance writing, but The Mansion should be restored to the top of my list soon!
(The achievement list includes achievements that aren’t possible to get yet.)
Edit: I wanted to edit my first post to include the new link, too, but I can’t find the “edit” button for it. Does it go away when a topic has been around a while?
I really enjoy the puzzles! However, if I can ask (and sorry if someone already asked this) The locked doors in the demo, is it possible to unlock all of them? Just curious if I’m too dumb to solve it or you haven’t write it yet. (to be specific: the one in the gallery and the one with a lion)
I don’t think you can edit your post if it was from the previous vanilla forum used by CoG. You can ask a mod or you can ask them to close this and create a new one that way you can edit your post.
