No, no, I get what you mean, don’t worry. I kinda said that in a snappy way lol. I actually agree with you. From what I’ve seen, most other bisexual players don’t mind any of this at all so I didn’t really want to share my opinion, but honestly? It pisses me off when I see literally every single love interest labelled as ‘bisexual’. Like don’t get me wrong, I get the point, I know the authors/game developers have the best intentions, but it just feels so… hollow, I guess?
I don’t wanna stray too far away from the topic, but I’ve been dealing in my life with people who just kinda ignored my sexuality? Like if you’re not lesbian or gay, it doesn’t matter, bisexuality basically doesn’t matter and isn’t even worth mentioning. I call the ROs bisexual even though I don’t think of them as such (not the ones in this game, though).
This. I agree 100%. Again, I’m not talking about the ROs in The Golden Rose, just in general from what I’ve seen. Sometimes when I see that all ROs in a game are ‘bisexual’ I just see it as ‘Free for all/Free for anyone’, like it doesn’t matter, their sexuality doesn’t matter, if you know what I mean. It may sound crass but that’s how I see it. Not sure if it makes any sense but it’s not the same with lesbian or gay love interests, and that’s why I appreciate them more. Because it feels more organic, more realistic. I’ll use Neia and the Pirate as an example. It wasn’t just ‘one single mention on a tumblr post that you’d have to spend hours to find’. It was KNOWN since the beginning. The author has kept mentioning the Pirate is straight and Neia is a lesbian because that’s what Ana had in mind since the beginning. It’s Ana we’re talking about, so I’m sure she would’ve done a great job anyway, but they weren’t supposed to be bisexual in the first place. I know it’s fiction and Ana has already said she’ll keep them as they were, but like I said, an example. Lots of authors/creators choose their characters to be ‘bisexual’ just so all players can date them. They are there for the player’s satisfaction and it really reminds me of my own experiences. Obviously I’m not saying I’m right every single time, I’m just explaining how I see it. Neia’s a lesbian because she was ‘born’ that way (as a character, I mean), not because it’s plot relevant. Like someone else said (on tumblr, I think?) she’s just allowed to exist and be the way she is. The same can’t be said about many bisexual characters I’ve seen. Their sole purpose is to be available for everyone. It really feels like that’s their whole worth.
Alessa and Hadrian though, they were done sooo good and honestly I’m grateful for them. It truly feels like they are bisexual if you know what I mean. That’s the kind of representation I appreciate.
TL;DR I completely agree with you and I have a feeling you explained it better than I ever could lol
