Off the top of my head, Jasmine chose JR as her LIs. She can be a handful, so I hadnât thought of her choosing a different LI. I purposefully put her on the JR route because I thought it would be a little chaotic with R and I like some of the banter between J and R when adding a more reckless MC into the mix to get R going by teasing him. I donât think I would subject sweet Bee to her, but it might be fun to see his reactions to her outgoing nature. It might stress Bee, but the results might be worth it.
Did anyoneâs MCs have past crushes?
I suspect Arthur probably doesnât? But, I could be wrong. I am basing this on his current relationship with Becca and how he seems forward looking.
@Elsee That is unexpected that the candy is all sugary and beautiful on the outside but the inside is hollow. Maybe it is R being cynical, but at least he thinks your MC is sweet.
@E_RedMark For you: Hope you are not snowed-in! My Poppy anticipates J being Melty in Book 2 or she will be happy to warm them up.
Arthur had a crush on Jane in the past and she was his first kiss (in my head it was because young Alina wanted to play âweddingâ when all three were in grade school, and the Corvin parents told Jane and Arthur to humor her. You can guess the rest), but they never got together at any point before he left. However heâd long since moved on by the start of the first book, and thought Jane had moved on as well (which I donât think really happened. I suspect in later books there will be something similar to Those Three Words but with J instead of B)âit was, after all, over ten years ago that he left Fernweh. Yes, that makes the fact that he has the lowest relationship with Jane out of all the main connections ironic (and more than a little sad).
You will get varying answers. While B takes top spot in my own ranking, and S and R vie for second, I will admit that they are all great and seem real.
It really depends on your preference. I prefer Râs type of romance than Bâs type. Thereâs generally no best romance since itâs pretty subjective.
Iâm a fan of established-friends to lovers as a trope and earnest love interests, (and B is an exemplar of both tropes (and J is very earnest too)). That and I the player love puns). While R isnât as straightforward and earnest as B, they have their own charm as well (try them with an earnest character. You will be surprised).
I made Naia for the poly. It was⌠okay, but she fit way better with Reese, once I started developing better. I havenât tried her with anyone else, and think I will leave her where she is.
I made Reina for the James route, but I did a run with Silas with her and quit halfway through. Iâm not sure if Sâs route just doesnât grab me or if it was just her, so I am going to try to make a MC for S and try again. Iâve tried a couple of new OCs with B, but wasnât feeling that, either. I just need to find the right MC for him, I think. Not sure what Iâm gonna do about the polyâI may play with my âtestâ MC until I get a feel for how things will go for the three of them.
Itâs rare that I make MCs for all of the ROs, so I may end up just playing R, J, and maybe the poly. Iâll see after I play around with new charactersâŚ
Maybe itâs me, but even with Jâs stoicism and tendency to pull back, I feel a lot of emotion in that route. Boiling under the surface, but itâs there. I found his scene at the end particularly touching (and even before that, when he and the MC discussed the letters he sent). Thereâs a draw between J and my MC for that route; perhaps not as strong as with R, but itâs there.
Or maybe Iâm full of shit and I got won over by the protective scene in the forest. Whatever the case, Iâm definitely playing the J route.
Râs my favorite, however, despite the handshake. Curious how that one is going to get off the ground after that âgoodbyeâ scene.
Depends on what you want. Want a BFF route? Go B. Want the tortured silent type that cares a lot and is protective? Go J. Want a flirty type that is emotionally closed off? Go R. Want a poly? Go with R/J. Not real sure what S is, so I canât speak of that one!
I consider them, I just figure that route is doomed. Iâve learned not to trust the âapparently evilâ routes without finding out first how itâll go.
That said, W (shoujld probably use that till people get the letter) was the only one with a kinda hot scene and an actual kiss. So I am very curious about where that path is going.
While I do love all the ROs and the routes (and agree that there isnât a âbestâ since itâs down to preference like the others have said), my personal favorite routes are: S, someone who exemplifies âactions speak louder than wordsâ, and who is a constant, thoughtful, and considerate presence by the MCâs sideâalways looking out for them even when the gestures seem small or insignificant, and the waitress/waiter, someone who is so mysterious and compelling (I think so anyway), and though the meetings with them are brief, if you choose to pursue something more with them, there is an undeniable charge between them and the MC (trying to stay vague even though this is already under a spoiler tag).
Also, itâs important to keep in mind that thereâs a lot of nuance in the interactions in scenes between the characters and the MC based on the MCâs personality (and other variables). @lacunafiction has taken great care to ensure that readersâ experiences are unique even when they decide to pursue the same RO with different MCs, creating dynamics that feel natural across the board.
@ZealousImagination I saw your reply after posting mine, and I can promise you that Iâm doing more than just considering them.
@Snowflower That is a cute backstory with Alina. I think most of my MCs already feel protective over A because she seems so bubbly and naive. She reminds most of them of a time when things were simpler in Fernweh; I guess that is why I havenât picked the choice when Aâs affection has turned strained and left hard feelings about the MCâs absence. I think it would hurt my heart too much. I agree that there will be something similar to Those Three Words with J and that Jane might not have moved on as easily as your MC, Arthur.
@Godex I too have played through many times with different MCs and LIs. My first play through was with my MC Daisy and she was interested in B. The roadtrip to Fernweh actually allowed her feelings to grow from friendship to something more. Bee is really sweet, somewhat shy and naive and supremely loyal in all cases to the MC. However, my Jasmine has been having herself a wonderful time romancing both J and R. She loves the dynamic between J, R, and herself. I also enjoyed the individual routes with J and R separately. With R, you just have to peel back the layers to see what is underneath. His facade is funny, polished, and somewhat entitled, but he has more depth.
I will agree with other postersâ comments that it is just a matter of personal preference. In my opinion, there is no âbadâ route. All the LIs have distinct personalities and flavor for you to pick from.
Edit:
I agree with @Snowflower, which speaks to what @Lambkin said about the routes being influenced by the MCâs personality and other choices. Reeseâs route can take on a different, possibly softer, tone with a sincere/earnest MC who is shy. Itâs still R, but there is a difference, which I liked with him versus how Jasmine and him were trading quips and flirting to the max.
I have more to say about the W, but that will have to wait until a little later.
Yay, we have uncovered all the candy flavors, good job everyone! This book really triggers sweet cravings, isnât it? First cookies and now candy
Thatâs definitely the reason, the same logic as W calling the aloof MC Frosty, like they are a cold person.
Both of my MCs had crushes on their respective ROs in the past. Itâs basic, but I find it cute how their childhood crush turns into serious romantic feelings in adulthood. Perhaps RO who we chose as MCâs childhood crush was also crushing on MC during childhood, as if they were always meant to be together
Playing as a snarky, reckless and cruel character is so damn entertaining! The experience is vastly different from my first playthrough. B is in a constant state of horror, either because theyâre worried sick for MCâs well-being, or because theyâre horrified by MCâs actions/words Poor baby, B is too precious for this world! S seems to hate my MC, whenever he opens his mouth to make a mocking remark or a dark joke, S is ready to rebuke him for it or give him a side-eye I love S though, itâs just funny how hard they clash with this MC. J is surprisingly okay with this character, they are quite friendly with each other. R is my RO on this run and they are delightful, not judgy at all, and I enjoy their playful rivals-to-lovers relationship with the MC!
I knowâŚI just like to toss the blame on the mc, so I can forget the Tons I got playing this game. Thats on the Scale @lacunafiction ! make Book 2 about running a lot after someone or something, so we lose this fatness before earth Tilt Sideway!
beware of book 2: You will slim down chasing the enemy! lol
Who want a dose of complication? I do, so technically nobody assumed the mc would go back to the Town. Does that mean every romance has an Ex? Are we gonna meet them? Who do? who doesnât ?
Omg what if Bowser is Jane ex?
what if the kid is Ruby fling?
There, Luna you got material to turn this book worthy of Stephen King!
I tend to dislike playing outright cruel characters (I canât even play a villainous Sidestep in FH, because it hurts too much!), but this sounds fun. It may make me more interested in Bâs route if my MC is tormenting them! Same with S!
Join the Cruel (Main) Characters Club! Itâs fun to speculate on whether B would set themselves on fire to keep MC warm, or whether R seriously considered trading MC for Miltonâs life, and why Waffles stays around an MC that hates her (B or no B).
And on an unrelated note, I have achieved 100 percent achievement completion! Thanks @Lambkin !
@Nemureru_Mori Yep, that is Laurel! Sheâs really not a great person, at all.
