"The Fernweh Saga: Book One" by Aelsa Trevelyan

Just finished this and I love Becca so much. I usually play through games like these a few times to see each romance but idk, I’d feel bad not romancing Becca lol

Also, one thing I was wondering: several times the narration describes what other characters are feeling, is this linked to the character’s powers or just a narrative choice?

First, I can’t resist the urge to remark on your icon, seeing as I used to go by a LiS character’s name on here before changing to my current username. I love it! :blue_heart: I’ll refrain from asking about your thoughts on Amberprice and/or Pricefield on my book thread though. XD

I feel that B is such an endearing character, partially due to how they always offer support for the MC. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I’m glad you fell for them so deeply! Also, that is an incredibly valid way to feel; I’ve heard echoes of it in my Tumblr inbox, but you can always have them as a bestie while trying another RO to maybe take the sting out.

Your second question is incredibly well-spotted.

I’ve seen a couple of theories about it both ways as to if it’s a stylistic choice or if it’s another way I’m choosing to foreshadow or bring in the MC’s abilities. I’m going to have to give a bit of a non-answer because this will be spoilery for the series. :see_no_evil: But I can say that I’m a very deliberate writer with foreshadowing/creating links, so altering the narration style to tip off the reader to something else being afoot with their MC isn’t out of the question. (It can also add a fun bit of paranoia and information asymmetry that adds to the thriller element.) Noting how/when the glimpses occur is important because they tend to give insightful information that can suggest motivations or feelings of the other characters. These insights are often selective, possibly when the characters seem to be in a heightened emotional state (e.g. J with the carving being close to candy canes, B recalling something about their grandmother when unsettled, etc.) There’s a lot to consider.

This narration is integral to how the story of TFS needs to be told.

Thank you for taking the time to read Book One. :green_heart:

I really want to read the entire book but I’ve already received two errors about missing scenes (one with the fake officer and one in the B&B with Beckett. Is anyone else having these issues?

No? The game works fine on omnibus.

If you’re on Steam, try verifying the files.

@WatchingCats Hello! :smiley_cat: I have not heard of any issues on any platform; the game has not required an update/patch since its launch. Also, I have a friend who regularly plays on GooglePlay, and I know he has had no problems.

I’m sorry that you’re encountering this anomaly; hopefully, @JBento’s suggestion will help if you’re playing on Steam.

Thank you for the replies, I’m using the latest version of omnibus app on my iPad with these error messages. After I get the error message it skips to the next chapter and I’m not sure how much of the story I’m missing

@WatchingCats No need to thank me; I hope that we will get this issue resolved quickly so you can experience Fernweh. I see that you’re just on the cusp of the MC’s arrival in town. :evergreen_tree: :smile_cat:

I have an iPad as well. I tried the demo for Book One, and it let me play beyond the page in your screenshot without any problems. Did the omnibus have a recent update? I haven’t updated my HG omnibus app since the launch of my book. Again, I’m not aware of any changes to the game or its files, so this is puzzling to me.

@Snowflower @Lambkin @Nemureru_Mori I think you all use the omnibus app. Have any of you encountered any errors like this? (It says: Error: Couldn’t load scenes/choicescript_stats.txt.json The file is probably missing or empty.) Thank you for any insights you can share.

I also received the same message after the nightmare scene in chapter one and chose to see Beckett. The message popped up after the watching tv scene and it says MC went back to their room. Is there even another scene or does chapter 1 end and chapter 2 starts? Maybe it’s just some weird error when starting a new chapter but nothing’s actually missing?

On the B Branch in Chapter 1, you will get this line: “Watching some TV before going back to your room may be a good distraction.” before the chapter ends and Chapter 2 begins. So, it doesn’t sound like any text is missing, but it is odd that the message is popping up as you progress.

I realize that Snowflower already said she is not having any issues within the omnibus, and I didn’t either with the demo on the iPad. I also just spoke with @Lambkin privately; she has not encountered any of these issues either. She is playing on an Apple device too.

It seems like this is either an issue with the omnibus app in general or something to do with your download of the app/game, not TFS: Book One or the coding itself. This is supported by Snowflower’s and Lambkin’s playthroughs on the omnibus without any of those error messages popping up. It might be a good idea to uninstall and then reinstall the omnibus app on your device to see if that clears things up. There hasn’t been an update to Book One since its release, while the omnibus itself hasn’t been updated since February 1st.

I know apps can be finicky, so maybe the uninstall/reinstall fix will help. >.<

If that doesn’t resolve things on your end, maybe try reaching out to support@choiceofgames.com.

Please let me know when you have the issue resolved. :smiley_cat: I hope that you will be able to enjoy the story soon.

Edit: Thank you for checking again, @Snowflower . :snowman: :hibiscus:

Definitely no issues with omnibus on my end. Just clicked through the fake officer scene. No error messages whatsoever. Achievements are popping normally.

Still happens after reinstalling and only to this game. Looks like I’ll be reaching out to support. Thank you for trying to troubleshoot this issue and I look forward to reading the complete story.
