Judging by the changed line in chapter five you mentioned, I have the current version of CoH.
I have, however, noticed in HoK that even after I’ve requested the sword (not sure about the book) and been granted the boon, it disappears from my inventory by the end of the game/immediately after I turn the “page” and read the ending.
To check whether you have the updated version of HoK, you can create a character with 5 subterfuge (thief dream, shepherd background), become Isan’s servant, and study his magical texts in secret in chapter 4. (You won’t get caught.) In chapter 5, if you again have the option to study his texts in secret, then you have the updated version. (The old version only lets you study his magical texts once, even if you weren’t caught.)
In the updated version of HoK, if you check the stats screen right before the ending (on the page that starts: “The cheers begin again as the last strains of the lute die away”), Kendrick’s sword and the Book don’t appear, even if you should have them. On the next screen, though, (“We hope you’ve enjoyed playing…”) if you check the stats screen and you chose the Sword or Book as your reward, it should reappear (which means it should get imported).
A few days since the last post, but I finally got around to playing this and I just have one question.
Couldn’t we have just funneled the Ever-Living into a killzone? Presumably a few of the stronger adventurers could kill them slowly in the middle of the catacombs, especially if backed up by a mage with the Book of Mad Whispers. There’s a finite amount of them, after all. The Heart doesn’t resurrect any dead in the area, at least as far as we see, but specifically it is bringing back the old Flowering Court bodies that were stored there. With the crypt’s ability to keep people moderately well-rested, and a system to draw the Ever-Living up to the killzone, eventually we would have killed them all. Let’s say there are 500,000 of them. We kill 3 of them every 5 minutes (A few minutes to kill and then a few for resting). This means that they’ll all be dead in just a bit over 579 days. That’s a lowball estimate, and it is easily do-able especially if you set up shifts or rotating groups. A month in the catacombs then a month on the surface.
Thanks for the assistance. I went back and did a playthrough of HoK, and it turns out I was wrong about having the most up-to-date version, despite what the app said when I checked it. So I re-downloaded the app, and everything seems to be working now.
I play on my iPod, and I did a quick play through yesterday after finding out being captain of the city watch means jack shit… So I chose to keep the tome, it didn’t carry over.
In fairness, more sequels will arrive, so the impact of having being the Captain of the Watch is likely not limited to what we see in CoH. But even in CoH, it does afford a few benefits. For example, it will get you into the city gates of Hallowford, should you choose to rely on your title, and it will also allow you to send your mentor (if you had one) a letter free of charge, as you can rely on Leofric to foot the bill. I believe there are at few other impacts as well; a few characters will refer to your status, such as Mundy.
Though, yes, I agree that the Tome has a much more tangible impact in CoH.
Actually I suspect the only thing that carries over for me is the gold, because on my bard save that cloak the duke gives you is absent when I loaded it up in CoH.
It’s possible that the version of HoK you have may be the old version. That’s what my problem was. So you may want to try creating that new save file with a new playthrough.
Should I reinstall it? Because I have made a new playthrough.
The bard was my old playthrough so I can’t recall what the stat was previously… in the loaded file my eloquence was a 7, and I chose to be in williams’ Associate instead of a tavern bard… to give clarification, just in case you get a stat boost in eloquence in that route.
I have now reinstalled both games, made a new playthrough in HoK and the book still didn’t transfer to the next game… I have been fiddling with this shit all day trying to get it to work. Is the book just a stat boost? Or is the game supposed to awknowledge you have it?
Meanwhile, this will help checking for an up-to-date version of CoH.
You probably don’t want to hear this, but you may need to uninstall and reinstall again, if you can’t reproduce what is above in your games. I suggest perhaps making sure your software is current for your iPod as well before doing so. That shouldn’t matter, but it may be worth doing. I had grief getting mine to work on my iPhone as well. I would’ve sworn that I deleted and re-downloaded my HoK, but after I received the advice, I found my copy wasn’t up-to-date, reinstalled it, and finally produced the right results.
Well just tested out HoK with the method you suggested, I guess I don’t have the updated version… If deleting it and reinstalled it doesn’t get me the updated versions of the game, what does? I don’t see any updates available in the App Store.
Other than trying to delete HoK and reinstall it once more, I’m at a loss. As I said earlier, you may want to try making sure your device’s software is current as well, assuming you’re using the Apple App Store or perhaps restarting your phone. The only other last ditch thing I can think of is playing with your phone’s date settings to try and trigger it to make sure it gets the latest settings, then setting it back to the current time and seeing if that forces the App Store to “reset.”
Beyond this, all of this, I’m not sure what other avenue you could take, other than trying to contact Apple itself.
