The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - An affair of the heart (WIP) (Ch 6.1: 31 jan 2025)

Weird question but who is Hamish/Helena in the Sherlock canon ?

We need to keep in mind that writing an insanely smart sherlock is not a trivial task and it requires the author to be insanely smart ( not saying that you are not @ Doriana-Gray) and would need loads of thinking time. Its a great feat that the author has managed to write a story that gives the same original sherlock holmes vibes and in my opinion it would be unfair to expect anything more. Lets not forget , there has been only one Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Haha thank you! Hopefully the more silly or “humorous” options are obvious from the choices and then people who are uninterested in that tone won’t pick those options :relaxed:

@Jess1973
They are an original character. They come to Sherlock for help with a case

Too true, haha! I think that actually might be a better answer than the one I gave. The truth is probably more that I couldn’t believable pull off the super genius of Sherlock Holmes, and therefore they are a slightly more realistic version. Though I’ve always liked that in the books, Sherlock often has to perform experiments and look things up (in clever ways) rather than know absolutely everything. That they still have to work for it a bit. But, there definitely will be a few moments of “why Sherlock, how could you possibly know the x was y!?”-“it’s simple, Watson,”

Wow!
i have not read the whole demo yet but i just had to write now because i liked it so much and that says a lot about the story
This is great!

loved the character creation, helps you build up a picture of the character you play

Since it is around Anno-1800 it would be kinda cool to see the characters follow the same sosial etiquette the people around that time used.
Victorian Etiquette - The Social Historian

also putting in some words used at that time would get you the 1800 feeling i belive

Jolly good chap!

I’m glad you liked it!

I would like to follow some more of the customs, but sadly, in most situations, it is not possible.

In conversation, proverbs and puns should be avoided at any cost and ladies should never indulge in a long argument, speak of religion, nor interrupt a person who is speaking. Ladies should be up to date on current events but should never discuss matters that they have no knowledge of.

For example, this would be hard to do with a female Sherlock :joy: one thing to note is that (I think) by definition, Sherlock is neither a gentleman nor a lady, so the rules are somewhat different.

But there will be moments when the player is in high society and will be allowed to follow the customs more

And I did look at that exact list of slang once! :joy: But I couldn’t find a way to make it not sound ridiculous. I do try and find fun older words sometimes. There is the word “antifogmatic” somewhere

Edit: if there are parts/lines/words that feel much to modern, just let me know and I’ll look into it! (I know I sometimes forget to keep it old fashioned )

haha that i can understand that some of the etiquette is hard implement but you might take some of it and then just make up your own etiquette

good work! will follow the development on this game

Obviously they are Watson’s middle name come to life. Hopefully it’s not an evil twin situation, but with an author whose handle is Doriana-Gray, it pays to be suspicious (any creepy old paintings hanging around in your attic, Doriana? ).

Oooh…. That explains a lot  I’m more surprised you didn’t pick the character Watson shipped Sherlock with  like he was upset when nothing came out of that ship

But wouldn’t that mean magic existed there ?:smirk:

I might just be blanking, but who is that character?

Oh, and I should probably clarify: there is no supernatural elements in this game  though that would be fun too… Watson, a conflicted werewolf? Lestrade, the vampire Hunter? Moriarty magic professor? Adler a vampire, maybe? Or is that too cliche? Poor Hamish would have to be a victim of something probably… Mrs Hudson should be human, right? (or retired vampire hunter?!)

Adler us totally a vampire. Wonder what Moriarty is though… Maybe a sorcerer of some sort?

Yeah, that’s what I am thinking too. Maybe Moriarty gets into some dark magic :hushed:

YES!!! Dark mage moriarity!
Sherlock is just like a normal human unless they have super intelligence or something, right?

Sherlock is a mind reader, duh. That’s how they solve the cases so easily :joy:

And I love how we’ve all begun speculating right after the confirmation that none of this will be in the game, haha.

I’m thinking Sherlock is a magician but with a penchant for mind reading and fortune telling? :hushed::sweat_smile:Maybe a student of Moriarty!

And yes haha, but speculating is always fun :joy:

@Fardil_Husain

Ohh, Nice :sunglasses: which one? The BBC Cumberbatch and Freeman one?

I can safely say it’s not an evil twin or Dorian Gray type situation haha :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

IIRC it’s Violet Hunter from “Copper Beeches”. She was pretty dang awesome.
