I know I really enjoyed the Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderland. For the first it was because I was really into the comics, and thought they translated it fairly well to a game, and Tales from the Borderlands kept the humor, but threw out the gameplay (which I disliked).
I didn’t mind the first Walking Dead. It was well made, but like the show, I can only take relentless grimdark so far.
I do wish they would either go back to some of their old series, or at least try to change up their current formula so much. I loved what they did with Sam and Max (and what I got into first with them).
I agree. They got their cash cow system but it can only take them so far. More innovation would do them good. For their defence though they seem to be trying new stuff every game. Just wish they did more but I have no idea of how thing goes in their studio. I know they work hard and do what they can but I fear people might lose interest after some time.
But again, you can see a lot of telltale clones springing up. Some that really arent that bad. I’m just glad people are getting into choice driven adventures more,
Good point about others mimicking them as well. Life is Strange comes to mind, as does the newest take on King’s Quest (I liked both as well).
And some of their quality has fallen, at least depending the series. I wasn’t a big fan of their Game of Thrones, and others have already mentioned Batman.
While i didnt really enjoy “The wolf among us”, “Minecraft Story Mode”, “Batman” and “Game of Thrones” (Damn that makes me sound like a telltale games-hater >.<), I still adore Telltale Games for their “Tales from the Borderlands” and especially “The Walking Dead” xD (yes: i cried at the end of season 1 and am proud to admit that)
Hey its understandable. In my opinion those two are their top games by far.
I was actuaky thinking about some other titles like the descendent and blues and bullets
You are entirely right about those though. I didnt try king quest because I heard some really shady stuff about the developers but life is strange was really good. The ending felt a bit rushed but they planned a second season with new characters!
I’m a big fan of the narrative of the games. But I absolutely loathe the technical aspects of their games. All their games runs extremely poorly and badly optimized. Not only that but they delete any threads on their forum that even mention these problems.
most of those games sound interesting by names alone, but the gutter kinda latched onto my brain when i read day of tentacle as a name title. do i want to look that up to confirm that is just a innocent inconvenient title or should i just ignore the perv side of the force like Jiraiya or Master Roshi Fails to do? i suspect its a innocent name but sometimes i like to laugh at the innocent name choices people make for ads and games.
you gotta admit it sounds kinda like a perv name for a cheap adult-ish game not that i would ever know anything about that (i love romance games from japan for some reason usually made with a female protagonist centered around story) …anyway telltale games are hilarious sometimes, when there are not glitchy or making choices meaningless. All in all the artwork is pretty good story is usually above average all things considered i would rate them if you collect all of them together about a 3.5 to 4 of 5 so pretty good on the whole
I love telltale! And I am the young age of 17!(which I am not happy about, being illegal makes life so hard sigh) and I’ve loved all of them. Game of Thrones is my blood, Walking dead is my water, and wolf among us is if my food. I played and enjoyed all of them.
Oh I forgot to add, if we’re talking about TellTales as a studio then my favorite game from them would be the Poker Night at the Inventory series. I used to spend so much time playing those games
Been playing their Batman game, very well done take on the mythos with lots of twists and an excellent Penguin and Harvey Dent/Two Face especially. But I like how Bruce Wayne is as much a character as Batman.
Excited for their Guardians of the Galaxy game, even if I fear it being a tad similar to Tales of the Borderlands. Troy Baker as Star Lord seems kind of inevitable really, assuming they haven’t got Chris Pratt and the cast in the game and it’s more MCU based.
I just finished Batman today in one sitting aaaaand-holy-cow-I-want-a-season-2!
Some people may complain about how rail-roaded Telltale games are but to be honest everything’s a little rail-roaded in order to tell a story… even CYOA text games. I loved the plot and its little twists into the characters we all know and love, I loved the freedom they give us into playing our own Batman and, above all, I loved the struggle we had to go through only to rise up again as a hero of Gotham! I think things like that really make it for a very interesting plot and I couldn’t help but root for the main character throughout the whole ordeal.
I think they did a good job in that departement - making the reader care for their character and maybe even feel some sympathy for the villains or pondering on the potentiality on whether or not some of them did had good intentions behind questionable methods.
PS: Mandatory nerding over Joker because I love his character and he is one of my all-time favorite villains! The first time I saw in the game I was inwardly freaking out like such a fangirl… shameless I know… but I couln’t help it.
