@Derack Was your kayfabe stat high? You need it low - showing a preference for keeping it real, so to speak - in order to choose that option.
Kayfabe is at 48%, if that’s not low enough how do I get it lower because I also wanted to use my real name
Your reactions in the bar scene, to sagramores change in the match, and how you conduct yourself in the interview are, offhand, places that have a good impact on kayfbe. Particularly if you choose to fight Sagrmore for real. Basically, never choose to keep kayfabe.
How low does it have to be because right now I started over and I’m at the scene where the Angeks come down from the logo and I’m at 50%
I got it, still couldn’t use my real name though, oh well
I was really skeptical to the game because I’m not into wrestling at all, but I was surprised by myself how much I enjoyed the game. It’s well written, compelling and fun to read. I liked it alot.
I have a question regarding Evelyns romance path. The photo were she meets JJ, is it just a promo? To increase the conflict between the main character and JJ?
My favorite part was when Prototype said something along the lines of ‘women can’t do math’ and I laughed at how ironic that was because my wresting name was Zetta (10^21).
The one thing that kinda bugs me is that at the end of Ecstasy’s route my female character was fiddling with the ‘special box’ which I’m guessing is a ring.
@Derack Sorry, been AFK. You need a kayfabe of less than 40 to use your real name for your final “persona”, just for future reference
@Peeehh Yup that was just kayfabe, and in no branch is E in a relationship with JJ.
@Katgirl64 Why did that bug you, if I may ask? My reasoning behind it was that even if the player is a woman and E is a man, it would be in line with the player’s strong personality to be the one to propose. If both are women, same thing.
Or maybe I just feel that’s natural because in my case, it was my wife who proposed to me, in a sense
Is Madison Rio only an option if you choose to be female and gay?
@Undead No, female and gay gives you the most options. You also have JJ, Evelyn Ecstasy, and Madison Rio. Or both Evelyn and Madison.
@Derack I had an extremely hard time getting my kayfabe low enough to do the real path. I tried over and over again and I never managed to get it low enough to use my real name.
Loved the game have played it many times the only thing I’m trying to figure out is if it’s possible to face JJ and Solitary as a male character
@Merrit Yes, you just can’t face Prototype if you’re male. You can fight JJ or Solitary though. (Not both, you need to pick one per playthrough).
Holy shit. That was pure awesome. I love how you handled the Evan romance too, usualy romance in IF are purely aesthethic adding nothing to the story at all. Hope to see more of your work in the future? [-O<
I was very fond of the E. Ecstasy romance and how it built. Of course Ecstasy was always going to be second best to my main character’s obsession. Poor Ecstasy, we’d be sitting having dinner and I’d be going “JJ!!! JJ!!! JJ!! JJ? Wait are you not listening to me?” He’d be speaking about other stuff and I’d be “JJ JJ!! JJ? JJ!!!” And never once did he yell, “shut up about JJ, you’re both as crazy and obsessed as each other.”
Ecstasy’s main problem was he never challenged me to a fight, never decided to engage in lots of ridiculous mind-games, never tried to punch me out of the blue, just to see if I was reacting quick enough. When I disappeared without a trace (a trick I learned from my best friend JJ) it was Ecstasy who tracked me down, offered to be my manager, helped me to return to wrestling and recover from JJ’s betrayal. But no! It was still “JJ… JJ… JJ!!!” Ecstasy definitely deserved better.
At least I got to be best friend’s with JJ’s dog, Lobo, and spend an afternoon drinking beer with him. I don’t think Ecstasy would have approved of that.
I’ll admit I was glad that a JJ romance was a possibility. It was extremely messed up, and I think it only worked because my main character was every bit as much obsessed. There was no one else who was going to get close to understanding the craziness.
One of the best games I’ve ever played. Worth every Penny!!! Well Done!
Am I right in assuming that Evan Ecstasy is the only romance option for a straight female? Not that I have any problem with that, Ecstasy has definitely made his way onto my list of favorite romantic options!! I’m just curious though cause if there is other options that’d be another reason to replay it a third time, to give them a try. I’m pretty sure he is the only choice for the hetero female though, since, unlike Ecstasy, Rio’s gender isn’t dependent on your sexuality so she’s kind of out for those interested in men, and you have to be interested in the same sex to romance JJ.
Anyways, all in all, super amazing game (: Kept me on edge the whole time and more than in a great deal of other games, I had to really thoroughly analyze and think through some of the choices. I’ve had two playthroughs, and landed the same ending for both, I dunno how many different endings there are anyways though, but even if you will most likely get the same ending twice, I still felt there was a lot of replay value. It was interesting seeing how even some seemingly small changes in the choices were actually really impactful, my second game went surprisingly different from my first, and I didn’t even have to do THAT much differently.
I loved this game!
I have to admit, that when I saw the new game was a about wrestling, I was disappointed. I’m not a wrestling fan and actually think it’s kind of dumb. But I tried the demo anyway, and it completely blew me away, so I immediately bought the game and it ate up my entire Saturday.
First, I had no idea that wrestling was so interesting, I might actually have to start watching it. Second, I think your game could have been about anything and I would have loved it because the writing was really top-notch. Aside from just being generally well-written, I thought the pacing was great, and I loved the characters. They all seemed a lot more developed than you see in a lot of games. I especially loved the romance. Evan was really well-developed, and I liked that he was actually integrated into the story and felt like an actual player in my character’s story and not just a stapled on token love interest.
The plot also had a lot of great twists and turns, which made it a lot of fun. My jaw literally dropped when I got kicked out of the GWA and when the whole Evan/JJ thing came out.
My other favorite thing about your writing was how you mixed things up. I thought it was really clever narratively to use blog posts, not!twitter, transcripts, etc. in addition to the actual gameplay segments to tell the story. I also really liked the radio interview/flashback segment. It was just so structurally different from what you see in a lot of games that it made it really fun to play.
If I had to pick a few nits, I would say that there were a few places where some of the wrestling lingo could have been better explained because it went straight over my head. There were also a few places where the wrong gendered nouns and pronouns were used for Evan, which was definitely a bit jarring. I also would have liked any other romance option for straight females, since I think we got the least. I would also agree with Katgirl64, in that I found the ringbox thing at the end with Evan to be pretty jarring. I understand the point you made about it being in-line with the character’s strong personality, but I think the problem was that it didn’t come off that way so much as it just seemed like the scene was simply written for a male character. I think it would have been better to have a line about playing with the ring instead of the box, and leave it up to the player to decide who proposed to who. Plus, I’m a girly girl romantic in real life and wanted to see Evan propose, especially given how adorable his speech in the ring was :X Still, these are all very minor criticisms, and I enjoyed the hell out of the game.
Anybody else notice that as a make character that when romancing Ecstasy that when you were accused of sabatoging the other contestants and Ecstasy says you were with her that you say something along the lines of pretending to be her GIRLFRIEND, there was another time it mentioned the male MC as a girlfriend but I can’t remember when
@Derack I had the same thing!! When Ecstasy came to my rescue by saying he was with me, then afterwards, where it should have said “If you wanted me to be your pretend girlfriend you should have just asked” something along those lines, instead it said “If you wanted me to be your fake boyfriend, you should have just asked” and I play as a female soooo hehe, that has to be an error. And in the end scene, I got something similar when Ecstasy was saying something about not betraying him or using him like all his past boyfriends had. d:
It’s was strange but still a fantastic game.
Where any of the characters in the game inspired by real wrestlers? Because it seems Prototype was like John Cena, since Cena was known as the Prototype early in his career and the golden boy of wrestling, the charity thing and the whole 5 moves thing
