This is one of the most interesting WiPs that exist imo, so I’m just excited for more, and Loran is a treasure… very happy to see it’s still being worked on! ![]()
Eh I think this happened to everyone more than once, me first of all. Pretty annoying to deal with.
Shattered: Now with a save system. Progress!
This is pretty good so far - it’s interesting to be able to play a drow/dark elf, and I’m excited to see how far I can take the evil thing while still keeping Loren and future companions on board with my way of doing things.
But I have a question, will there be any other love interests besides Loren in future? Like maybe a guy (for my male MC who prefers the not-so-fair sex)? lol
That moment when MC truly realizes their own potential, that scene is epic, it never stops to fascinate me every time I read through it. I did note you’ve made a couple changes in the earlier parts here and there, they’re appreciated and help in the immersive flow.
I liked the wolf scene and the mandragora ritual part. The ritual conveyed the arcane eerie blood ritual flow perfectly.
At least one elven man and one human, if I go through with my plans. Probably more.
Sneaky rewrites go brr.
Thanks for the typos, I’ll fix them with the next update.
Oooh, that sounds awesome! I can just imagine the potential for drama and tension between a non-drow/surface elf (I’m assuming?) and our drow MC (if we chose to be one and/or play as evil), and if you throw attraction/romance into that it makes it that much more interesting. ![]()
Can’t wait! ![]()
Yes! I agree that this was a really great moment. Especially the part leading up to it before the realisation, when MC is thinking that whomever wrote this grimoire was a genius on a level even MC struggled to comprehend in that moment, and then a moment later realising, shit… it was me, I wrote all this. Really awesome part!
Dark elves aren’t necessarily subterranean, the Malkyne were born during a war between the high elves and a demonic incursion. The warriors sent to drive them back were badly corrupted by demonic influence and quickly started to mutate into more demonic forms. When they went back home, they were treated like pariahs and exiled by the Elkyne, in fear of contamination and plain disgust a the forms the soldiers had taken.
The underground life chose them more than anything, taking control of the chthonic ways was a huge opportunity for the pariahs. But they are still more adapted to the surface and most would rather live in the sun.
The relationship between dark and high elves is still… you know. Even though hostilities have been reduced quite a lot by the passing of time. Without spoiling too much, if you play as a dark elf, you would be one that was born in the slums of elkyne cities. The Shattered would have a… “”“complex”“” relationship with their own people for more reasons than their species. But yes, in general romance between high and dark elves is not easy.
They had a massive ego before, imagine how they are now that they know they’re a best-selling author!
The game so far is great and this is my kind of mc. I did notice there was an error when trying to show stats, i don’t known if it’s because stats aren’t important in the game yet or if there’s a coding error but thought i’d let you know.
Will we meet the mc’s elven clan or family if they still have one, maybe an old lover?
There’s nothing in the stat screen yet so it looks like an error when you try get into it.
The MC was orphaned when they were too young to remember, they had lived in the slums of one of the high elf city-states, until their talents were noticed and they were brought before a mentor that would teach them.
So they don’t really have any clan or family to speak of, no one blood-related anyway. Though, they made a lot of enemies, so there will be no shortage of people who know you and want a private meeting. A few disciples and old friends as well.
Loran is such a great character so far I love a lot of characters and some writers have created amazing complex characters but this is the first time I saw on here a good character personality change she goes from not wanting to even kill to help in the long run to doing it herself without you even telling I’m talking abt after you tell her it ok to do it to save more ppl in the long run and it all made sense because of what was happening to her idk if it’s the same if you let the person go or not because I always choose it’s better to kill one so more don’t die latter
Loran’s role in the story will definitely change depending on how the Shattered influences her, and how she influences them. It’s interesting to write her alongside the shattered, because I think she’s a perfect foil for the more callous, hateful and jaded sorcerer.
Oh feck, it’s back?! It’s been so long… Ahhhh how I missed this one…
I’m currently still working on the next update, and thinking about implementations of this game’s stats while I’m at it.
The system I use will probably be similar to the trait system I’m planning for The Wight King. Focusing not on numerical stats but instead on trying to make a more meaningful progression using thresholds.
In the next update you’ll get to see more of your current pursuers, and perhaps, make even more enemies! Nice occasion to test out some new powers.
I wanted to talk about the kind of stats you can expect from the next update.
Since the shattered is a mage rather than a warrior, their stats are much more focused on magic, with more physical aspects playing a minor role compared to the wight king.
As of now, there are five disciplines in which you will be able to invest.
Sorcery: Destruction, force, power.
-
Sorcery is an entire type of magic of its own, but in the Shattered’s case, it is the purest expression of their power. Control over all forms of energy, elemental, primordial power.
-
Focusing on sorcery will let you unleash unstoppable forces, be it by wielding pillars of flame, or using sheer force to manipulate the world as they will.
Witchcraft: Dark magic, demonology, hexcraft.
-
The Shattered’s studies have brought them far from theories commonly accepted. Bringing the ways of ancient witches back into the light, and with it new forms of dark magic.
-
With an endless repertoire of infernal names at disposition, the shattered may call onto demonic forces to aid them. Bind them to their will, and draw power from the hells.
-
Though not as potent as curses, hexes share the same ability to directly debilitate their enemies, or even to affect the environment about them to their advantage, even to give the same crippling power to their allies.
Phasmiurgy: Control of thoughts and senses, phantasms, illusions.
- Subtle and tricky, the art of phasmiurgy is one of delving deep into the mind. The ability to manipulate the senses, to extend or limit them, to control perceptions. To summon illusions out of nothing and play with the minds of your enemies.
Sarkothurgy: Flesh, blood, bones.
-
Sarkothurgy is the magic of life in its most brutal form. Is the power to sculpt, to transfuse, to warp. It is the power to mend and to break.
-
The Sarkothurge is a master of controlled mutation, capable of sculpting their own flesh as well as the flesh of others. To turn their own body into a weapon or to wrack the bodies of others.
-
With their powers over blood and bones, the sarkothurges are capable of manipulating the refuses of flesh, and using powerful sacrificial magic in battle.
Alchemy: Transmutation, chemistry, techne.
-
Alchemy is sometimes considered the lowest of all magic, by those too narrow-minded to understand the genius behind it. Magic to kill magic. Magic wrested from the hands of the towers, into those of people who could never have dreamt of wielding it otherwise.
-
Transmutation is an art of transformation, of giving and taking. Manipulating the world by using the natural to create the unnatural. Pay the right price, and you can make or unmake nearly anything.
-
Alchemy is in its essence, a magic of creation. Be it chemistry or technology, alchemists have always rivaled in ingenuity to create new ways to use magic, the alchemist will be able to create magical weapons and powerful potions.
I think i’ll talk about personality stats later. But tell me what you think about this selection.
Am interested in how sarkothurgy will affect close combat when the physical aspects of the game will be playing a minor role. For example when the body’s strength or agility is boosted using sarkothurgy. How will the stat check be done? Or will sarkothurgy not be used alongside close combat?
Oh god, pretty please give us Spiritual Pressure! Like, full on an aura of immense pressure that can quite literally force people to the ground. That being said, I know this is a bit of a hot take, but I’m anticipating this IF more than Wight King. Idk man it just sucks you in like a black hole.
Sarkothurgy isn’t ONLY about boosting physical abilities. It is part of it yes, but if you will it is less “Wight king smash” and more “Ahah tentacle arm goes slam”.
In term of melee fighting the shattered is pretty much only good at two things, spell-blading and the “London backstreet knife jutsu” school of self-defense. So I probably won’t make any physical stat.
However investing into sarkothurgy will let you be more of a frontliner using twisted flesh abominations to rip and tear.
It is kind of a thing in this world, for anyone sufficiently powerful. Their presence gives off this feeling of incredible pressure to the people around them, and the more aggressive they are, the more the effects increase.
I don’t know if I would call that a hot take, instead of an opinion. But thank you nonetheless, it’s high praise. XD
When trying to look at the stats screen I get the following- Couldn’t load scenes/choicescript_stats.txt?cb=516354 The file is probably missing or empty
I like this more than Wight King too.
Always was more of a mage type, and having a rookie to mold in my own image is way better than the banshee.
The stat page hasn’t been implemented, probably should show in the next update
