Yeah, kinda!
Not bad, but there are some pieces that aren’t perfect fits, ie.
What did A mean by “I always get you back”? That implies that this might not have been the first time.
We seem to have had an extended physical relationship with A in the past that included cooking together. We didn’t get that from only nursing them in prison.
There’s also the question of how “that damn bastard” fits into the MC’s situation/recovery, and what was it he did that “worked”? A’s clearly pleased with the results of whatever it was the “damn bastard” did as A gazes at the amnesiatic MC who has just awakened.
By that, they meant that after everything they get them back to the start. Maybe MC tried to run away, and then the car crash accrued? Oww, anotger theory!
Hmm true, then maybe we had an relationship with them before? Or maybe we are not for few months in coma, but few years? And our past experiences were building up? Like what if we woke up like that for another 12th time, but everytime it took different time like for few years before we started remembering?
Hmm the last one indeed is difficult… maybe for sure it has to do something with us… so maybe he did erased completely our memories? I mean that is the only thing i can imagine.
But i guess we will have to wait! But please tell me someone that we will be able to have a good ending? Like a slight ‘yep’?? I mean i am just sooo in love with them!!!
I swear, me loving this demo has nothing to do with the fact that I just finished another game where my character also had amnesia.
Since the author said this is not so low-fantasy, my theory is probably a lot of nonsense. However, speculating is so funny… I can’t help it
My guess is the MC is dead.
Lots of speculation...
Why? Mainly because of the chapter names, but there are also some lines that may suggest this.
- “The arms of death around your chest is not cold, but warm. Firm, and determined. It pulls you up toward the surface.”
This part is related to the name of the last chapter - Danse macabre. Here’s what the Great Wikipedia tell us about it:
“According to legend, Death appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle. His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year.”
Also, in this myth both living and dead figures are dancing together. So, if death pulled the MC up toward the surface for this dance is the spouse alive or they’re dead as well?
- ‘Funny…’ You thought. ‘I was sure I was damned to hell’.
This line is related to the title of the second chapter, Huis Clos. In this story, three people are captive in a hell’s room (“your spouse will not let you leave …” ) and their punishment is to live together having to tolerate each other forever. “Hell is other people”.
I have the feeling the MC was really evil before the amnesia. They apparently agree. Maybe the MC is actually in hell and the punishment is the spouse?
- The title of the game
It makes me believe both are in purgatory, not in hell. So, how to explain the creepy vibes the spouse is making me feel?
- “That damn bastard, it worked,”
This line may explain why the MC, who deserved to be in hell, is not.
The spouse managed to give a new chance to them. In this case, the manipulative vibes we are feeling from them are nothing more than the way they are trying to help the MC to be redeemed… But if what the spouse wants is not the MC’s redemption, but revenge?
- You remember a hint of breathy admiration in the way she called your name.
After reading about chapter 4, “Giuditta,” on the statistics screen and researching Folie à deux (the title of Chapter 6), I believe the MC was a manipulative bastard who somehow disrupted the life of the spouse. Now, both of them are dead in purgatory. Why? To redemption or to revenge? Maybe the answer depends on our choices?
Why do I get the feeling that the spouse is a cannibal? The talk about livestock, the cat being named Hannibal, and how they believe they are smarter/better than others… it gives me serial killer vibes. And the whole off grid thing makes me think that they kill and eat people, idk If they aren’t a cannibal then they’re at least a sociopath, probably with a need to have extreme control over the MC’s life. I wouldn’t be surprised if the MC had a similar condition as well, because of that dream at the end of the demo… being different from other people but just written off as “a little odd”. Maybe that’s what the MC and spouse had in common?
Despite it all, the spouse is so sweet that I am 100% on board for any insanity to come I’m a sucker for domesticity
My spouse is so lucky that I tend to go with the flow in these type of situations, until I gather more info.
I’m just glad that I married someone that cough knows how to use their hands.cough
OoOooooOoooohhh. Idk y, but im getting midsommar vibes from this, (upcoming movie from the director/writer of hereditary) i likeyyyy. I likey a lot. I wanna act scared/distant with the spouse and watch how increasingly frustrated they get until they inevitably explode and tie me to a bed or maybe keep me in a basement or something.
Just popping in to say the Chapter title explanations in Stats page has been updated. Warning on “Giuditta”, as the art by Gentileschi is delightfully graphic.
And thank you all for comparing the demo to various movies and books! I haven’t seen most of them, and now I definitely will.
Edit:: Oops! I’ve also messed up the years very slightly; You and Abigail/Anthony have known each other for 23 years (minus two or three months), not 22. It’s fixed now.
I’m a sucker for a good biblical reference.
We’re both naked or atleast they lose the shirt.
a theory our spouse is hannibal
Hahaha, I’d love that game even more if that were the case xD
Replaying the demo, I’m adding a few questions/theories. First page, we hear someone/the spouse shoveling dirt in the garden. What if they were burying someone? (Ok, I admit that this one is not original and far-fetched
Second one: the “I always get you back”
and some other clues in the dialogues makes me want to believe that the MC did that to themselves in order to escape the “spouse”, as others have said. I have the feeling that the MC saw too much into the spouse’s heart and got really frightened. After the accident, the spouse decided to let the MC recover in a foreign country, far away from their friends and family, so that they can try to regain the MC’s trust/love. But they also want the MC to remember everything, including the thing which caused the MC to flee in the first place. They won’t let the MC escape, neither the house or their memories.
Mmh. Also, maybe the spouse made it so that everyone in the outside world think the MC has died. I’ll stick with this one until we have proof of the contrary.
oof u right, I misread that part my mistake, sorry
Oh oops, I forgot to answer this. I will give you a ‘yep’, though in the end, it depends on who your mc is as a person.
How much chapters the demo have? It doesnt load the end of the first chapter for me
Only one for now. Seven chapters and seven updates until I revamp the entire thing before submitting it.
One update one chapter? Delighted suffer in waiting.
Just found this one and -
Am I really the only one who can’t see the location as suspicious, simply because to me it looks like a perfectly regular Finnish summer cottage?
It’ll be interesting to see where this goes.
That makes sense I suppose. I’m Asian who live in Asia and here, it’s impossible to leave the house without bumping into someone. Even in the villages. So the seclusion is kinda scary.
But I think for me the more suspicious part is why would you bring someone who is amnesiac to a summer cottage in Finland?
