(Sci-fi WiP) (Crossfire) (Updated 5th of June)

Well, thank you for the criticism. That definitely is a bug and I’ll fix it in the next update.

The game has a “infamy” variable. Once it hits 30, you are approached by BB’s messengers. Low physical skill leads to death in the said situation (if you open fire). Infamy is easy to achieve, but it’s mostly by not acting subtly and making lots of noise for your mission. I can list the actions that give you infamy, if you’d like.

I think the most important thing is intentionality: I felt in many occasions that I wasn’t in control of my character. Just making a choice wasn’t enough – I think it’s really important to be aware of the consequences of those choices.

Examples

For example, in the example I gave, the choice I selected was “Go to Wolf” and the game interpreted that choice as “Betray the SF”. I had no idea that the game would interpret my choice like that (made worse by the fact that I didn’t actually have another choice at that point)! If the choice had said something like “Get to Wolf before the SF to strike a deal” then I would have been much more aware of what my character was thinking and doing and there wouldn’t have been as much of a disconnect.

Another example: Someone told me about the warehouse. I chose to go to the warehouse to check it out, but I found my character coordinating his team to set up an elaborate ambush. I didn’t actually decide I wanted to set up an ambush, just that I wanted to check out the warehouse. If the choice was more clear e.g. “Go to the warehouse to set up an ambush for BB and Wolf’s men” then I think I would have been more satisfied.

I see. It’s not labeled betraying the SF as much, you’re not in any way related, so you’re just making him fail his mission whilst you accomplish yours. If Cormac gets to Wolf before you do, the criminal overlord will go down and all leads towards BB will be lost. By striking a deal, you’re intentionally throwing Cormac away. Though I’ll fix those issues. Also, another idea popped up. It’s a small deal but you can somewhat choose your age.

That’s a nice touch!

I was pretty happy just mentally envisioning my character as older in my head, though

I suppose. I do that too. I just had to add an explanation as to why such an old serviceman would own such a low rank.
