Sorry to hear of your injury @Samuel_H_Young - I hope your recovery goes well.
Yeesh… Glad you got it looked into right away. Concussions are serious business!
@Havenstone I hope she learned that that was a very very bad idea.
Oh no! I was very sorry to read this happened. A concussion is no joke, but a work injury situation like that sounds like it could have been worse, too, so I’m glad it wasn’t. Take care and don’t push yourself until you know you’re feeling better, which I hope is very soon!
@Shoelip, she did.
Though y’know, it’s a useful skill if she ever decides to become a gritty vigilante superhero.
Get well soon.
Also, just want to say, I am really looking forward to 64 Knightmares.
Thanks! I’ve been doing lots of brainstorming for characters and plots, but the more I delve into outlines, the more I’m convinced I should wait to actually begin writing this until I become a Master. That would not only give me more credibility, but it would also help me make the chess content better and more gripping.
So… a few weeks then
I know little about chess other than the basics, but that is an impressive goal.
Hah, I wish. I’m in the 90th percentile but I need to get to the 99th percentile to become a master so that’s probably at least a few years away. But in the meantime I’m going to keep brainstorming for it so it’ll be as good as possible when I get to it.
@Samuel_H_Young, I’m not sure what state you live in, but make sure the company pays all your bills. You seem to be doing well, but if there are any setbacks, be sure to get follow up medical treatment. Hope you are feeling more lucid (well, as lucid as you ever are!) soon.
Yeah for sure. I’m hoping for thousands in compensation but I’m extremely unlucky so I bet I’ll get a dirty penny.
My New Years Goals:
1.) Submit The Magician’s Burden, The Magician’s Enigma, and Winter of the Bovine to CoG in 2018. (A tall order, I know.)
2.) Take 1st place in the Under 1700 section of the Mid America Open chess tournament this time and reach a USCF rating of 1750+
Well, shit. o_o
So, I’ve had some people asking me about the sequel to Foundation of Nightmares. I’m going to be blunt: Trial of the Demon Hunter, Captive of Fortune, and Foundation of Nightmares were duds. They all have mediocre sales and mediocre reviews, with FoN getting ratings worse than I could have ever imagined. At this point, I think I’d have to be both ignorant and masochistic to continue on with the series, at least in the foreseeable future.
Sure, I could write Transitions of Power and probably continue to see the trend of lame sales and reviews, but I could also just write stories like The Magician’s Burden which will likely outsell all three of my previous HGs combined. That said, I’m sure many of you are wondering why the hell I’m writing Winter of the Bovine and The Enchanter’s Misery when I just started a new series with The Magician’s Burden that’s going to have three sequels.
Well, it’s kind of in the same vein. Although I hope and believe that TMB will do well, I’m a bit leery of jumping right into the sequel without knowing how TMB will be received. It could end up flopping like my last several HGs. Because of that, I’ve decided to work on a couple stand-alones while I wait for TMB to be published. Then, like a real professional, I’ll see about making The Magician’s Enigma if there is a demand for it.
I’m probably ranting to the abyss, but I just thought I’d post this to get it off my chest.
I am sorry to read about your bad reviews, but at least you are trying to learn and improve.
Well, that’s sad. I was looking forward to the sequel to FoN. And I have to say, I’m not sure if I’m gonna buy TMB since you’re not sure if you’re gonna finish it as well. I do hope that’s not the case, but I’m gonna wait a little before buying it. I’ll be cheering for you anyway.
I totally get it. Time is a finite resource, and there’s no sense spending too much of such a valuable currency on a losing bet. Hopefully TMB turns it around in a big way, and if not I think Bovine is going to get things, well…
Moooving. It will get things moooving.
Thanks. Yes, at the very least, writing that trilogy was a good learning experience. Without it, I never could have written The Magician’s Burden, Winter of the Bovine, or The Enchanter’s Misery, which people enjoy much more.
@lyanna
As a consumer, that makes sense! I fully intend on finishing the Magician’s series as it was incredibly fun to write and people really seemed to like it. I just also want to be a bit cautious about it. In the next few months, we’ll see if I’m just being silly or not.
@hustlertwo exactly
Your original trilogy was alright… with lots of ROs to chose from too, and the price is lower than most…
Not sure why those people were complaining about
Thanks. I think it was a bit better than the ratings led on, but what author doesn’t think that? that said, I do acknowledge that they were a bit short with messy coding and not a huge amount of character interaction. I aimed to fix all of those things in all my subsequent stories and as far as I can tell, that’s been going well.
I actually like those multiple ROs you provide, and it seems all those ROs can really be made into a good story of their own… but yes perhaps more interaction with them will fully develop their potential, but i acknowledge with that many choices of ROs , it will be very difficult to expand their stand alone story… and surely it is a massive work to develop them all
