Time for a nice fancy first half of Chapter 3, ready for everyone today! You can play through the new Chapter 3 goodness here. The demo is now around 80,000 words long!
Good point, I have been thinking about what the title should be to differentiate the MC from the crown princess when theyâre nonbinary. There are a few different options Iâve been thinking about - Iâll likely change it in the next update.
Itâs not quite easy to think of non-binary/gender-neutral terms for non-reigning royals. For reigning ones, itâs easily sovereign/monarch.
One way to get around it as well is to simply have the Queen refer to MC as âSee to it that my child stays safeâ, the way it is done in Creme De La Creme âYouâll always be my childâ.
Yeah, Iâll have a think! Child works well for the Queen or family, but for a formal title I may go for âRoyalâ or âSecond Heirâ.
Just played through Chapter 3! You might have seen this one, but thereâs a bug. Thereâs this portion:
Asherâs cheeks flush. âThatâs honestly too kind, Beatrice,â she says. âYou neednât worry about that.â
She busies herself with the cushions. Once the room is sorted out to her satisfaction, she {asher_singular excuses|excuse} herself. You change into fresh clothes for your day: not eveningwear, since itâs only late morning, but a decently smart outfit for a day event. You opt for something:
Somethingâs a bit off with the variable, I think.
Another thing I noticed in Chapter 3:
I previously started the Beaumont romance in Chapter 1/2 (canât remember which), but thereâs a scene where and Beaumont play cards in her room, and thereâs an option to start romance (which should not occur since it has previously been started).
Slight grammatical error:
When you place your Six of Coins upon Beaumontâs Nine of Coins, you catch Beaumontâs eye and allow your hand to brush hers as she reaches forward.
her hand stills. âYou keep doing that sort of thing,â she says, her eyes very dark. âWhat do you mean by it, exactly?â
her ought to be capitalized.
Really useful, thank you very much for highlighting these! Thatâll all be fixed next time I update.
edit: theyâre fixed now, as I had a few spare moments!
Very nice! Iâll keep playtesting and will notify you if I see anything else
Iâm excited to return for Chapter 3, which means replaying the demo which Iâm cool with!
Iâm curious if maybe you might add an option that is more appreciative of Asherâs protection and dedication to her work? All the options vaguely seem to somewhat resent either their protection in some way or their standing as your bodyguard. I am just imagining maybe my Royal who could have a lowkey crush on Asher would feel butterflies knowing Asher is looking out for them like that and not necessarily would care if they were an equal, but enjoys their company. It might be a good early romance choice or friendship choice? Your call though.
Oh and will you make some game art for Royal Affairs too like you did with CdLC?
Ah, finally I found the time to replay Crème de la Crème in order to have it fresh in my mind and try this demo.
Well, what can I say, I loved the previous game, and I already love this one. I canât wait to see whatâs in store for the future.
I like most of the characters so far, but Iâll admit itâs hard for anyone to compare to Asher. They kind of outshine the others for me, but thatâs okay, I had the same thing with Blaise in the other game! I guess I lucked out a bit more this time though, since I guess theyâll remain by MCâs side for the duration of the story.
Iâll admit I canât wait to be able to transfer data though (that WILL be a thing in the release, right?), cause I got a bit confused by one thing when answering the questionsâŚ
I was unsure as to what Renaldtâs fate was, despite replaying literally hours before starting Royal Affairs:
I donât know what is the difference between her being sacked and imprisoned, in this case?
I got her âFate 1â in Crème de la Crème (as in, it was labelled as 1 in the code of the previous game), so she got taken in after a public fuss at graduation, and the inspectorâs letter said she was removed from her Headteacher position and will face criminal charges. It makes me think itâs the imprisoned one, but Iâm actually unsure?
Also, a funny little error:
If completing the questions about Crème de la Crème and having romanced Blaise, the game then asks for their gender.
But weeeell, they become Delacroix if they are female or NB (obviously just a display issue in the choice selection):
- Mr. Blaise Marechal (he/him)
- Miss Patrice Delacroix (she/her)
- Mx. Patrice Delacroix (they/them)
I donât have much to say aside from that. Glad I finally started this!
@ArthurVandelay Thank you for the suggestion! It fits in nicely, so Iâve added it in for Chapter 1 and itâll be in there in the next update.
@Schrodinger_s_Face There will be cover art yes, but it wonât be me who makes it (I am⌠not good at drawing people. You donât want my art on a cover).
@Konoi Thank you for playing, Iâm so glad you enjoyed and that youâre liking Asher! It probably isnât much of a spoiler to say that they will have much more screentime throughout than Blaise.
The equivalent to that Fate 1 is that she was imprisoned - the mention of criminal charges is what puts it over the edge. In some circumstances, you can get her fired but the consequences are limited to her job and the education world, she doesnât get charged. That option also ensures that what happened is all out in the open.
Didnât you know that Blaise and Delacroix have merged together into one being? Plot twist! Haha, thank you for mentioning - that will be fixed in the next update.
Oh man, one of Delacroixâs spiritual rituals finally went truly wrong⌠That makes things so awkward⌠When one of your best friends merges with your bethroted, especially considering the lover of said great friend is someone who you donât have a great relationship with⌠Mood.
It really isnât quite fair to the other ROs, how completely taken I am with Asher. Usually, I flirt a little with everyone in the beginning to get a sense of their route and personality, but it seems like Iâve got my sights firmly latched on to Asher.
Donât get me wrong, Dominique is absolutely charming and I always love a good rivals-to-lovers route with Javi, especially when thereâs larger geopolitical implications attached to them, and Trevylan is refreshingly honest and their determination is admirable⌠But this is the first time where thereâs no indecisiveness whatsoever.
First, I just wanted to say how amazing this is. I loved Crème de la Crème & was torn between August and Rosario & now Iâm torn over Asher & Javi.
One of the bugs(?) I encountered was that Dominiqueâs name and Hyacintheâs name disappeared in one line during the whole liqueur tasting route? They were both male in my playthrough.
Another thing, I was wondering if there could be a choice of sabotaging Hyacinthe and upstaging them at the same time? Since sabotage & upstaging is common in Crème de la Crème, I actually chose to dance with them since I wanted to upstage them and the polite applause didnât satisfy my attention wh*re MC who basks in the limelight lol.
The tension between Javi/MC is just the right amount honestly. Not too overdramatic, not unreasonable either. And that business with Asher hesitating because MC is supposed to find a spouse is chefâs kiss. I honestly canât wait for the full release of this & I love it so much I wish that I could play it NOW. But Iâm sure the end result will be worth the wait. Thank you for sharing Royal Affairs with us!
@42xyzzy Iâm so glad youâre liking Asher, thatâs really lovely!
@Minene_Uryuu Welcome to the forum and thank you for your kind comments! Iâm really glad you enjoyed it. Iâve tweaked that Hyacinthe dance scene to make it clearer and give the MC a bit more spotlight attention - thatâll be there in the next update. I wasnât able to pin down the disappearing names issue - if you have a screenshot or can remember where it was in the scene that would be amazing, but if not donât worry, itâll get unearthed at some stage anyway. Thanks again!
A little progress update:
Iâve been continuing work on Chapter 6 this fortnight, and Iâm onto a section about the Festival of the Birds! That means some lovely character-focused scenes of friendship and romance, and also a LOT of branching. Right now Iâm in the depths of an Asher romantic section.
Current total wordcount: 140954 words
Current average playthrough: 40615 words
Iâve hit that golden 40K average playthrough!
I started typing this in the CdlCâs thread before realising itâll fit better here
So, just to add on, I am really grateful for the inclusion for MC to be aro without also being ace, as well as the presence of two (!!) aromantic characters in the game itself. Gonzalez and Florin matter a lot to me, and I liked that they are upfront and honest about their aspec identities with the MC too. Itâs still really rare to see arospec characters who straight up label themselves as such, especially within CoG. Asteroid Runâs Eira is the only other example I know of.
I also super appreciate how we can set MC as greyace (which I had never seen done before, ever!) and how thoughtful the choices to do so are in CdlC. Iâm glad to see it continue in its sequel! However, I was wondering if thereâs a chance youâll consider adding its counterpart, greyromantic, to Royal Affairs? I completely understand if itâs too late in the game to add yet another variable though.
Thank you so much, Iâm really glad you enjoyed Gonzalez and Florin! I donât think itâs too late to include a greyromantic option for the Royal Affairs MC - Iâm pretty sure itâll fit in well in the choice where you can say âIâm interested in romantic connectionsâ etc, where aro-ace MCs can state their identities. There are points later on when talking with other characters about asexuality and aromanticism as well where the MC should be able to chat about it or it be referenced. Iâm really happy you asked about it because itâs an opportunity for more inclusivity!
Hey! Loving it so far! Im such a CdlC fan that I actually forced them to play it and this Royal Affairs demo.
I wonder though, are we supposed to not win the race during the school trip?
Thank you so much and welcome to the forum! There was an issue that other people had where the race was lost even though players had got ahead and should win - I thought Iâd fixed it but will have a closer look and check again.
