@faewkless, their’s a special procedure as to how to do it. Note the correct and incorrect procedure results below.
I haven’t formulated any achievements yet, but winning the presidency as an independent or third-party politician would certainly be one of them!
Nix that, got it figured out. Just had to put it into my public folder.

Alright, folks, there you go! The demo featuring, for now, just the prologue, leading up to your entrance into politics. I’ll try to get the local assembly chapter out within the next week or two, but I do have to deal with IRL school, so no guarantees on that.
Give it a play, let me know if you encounter any bugs or crashes, and in general just let me know what you think so far, even if it isn’t much quite yet!
Green, red, and lavender coalition FTW!
Fixed. No idea how one like that got past me! Thanks, though.
If you choose male it doesn’t work, choosing female does.
While on the subject of gender and sexuality, I imagine being gay (male) isn’t going to make this game any easier, are you even planning lust and love choices for the mc?
Just ran through with quicktest (Had no idea that was even a thing! Very nice tool, though.) and got rid of what should be the rest of the crashes for the prologue. Apologies for all that, but it should be good now!
And yes, I am! As mentioned previously, you can run the gamut of sexualities, although you can choose to be open with it if you’re bisexual or gay. Certain romantic situations will result in scandals (I did not have sexual relations with that woman!) while some may result in marriage - This game won’t focus too heavily on marriage and romance and the such, since it is foremost about politics, but as they say, sex and politics tends to be pretty intertwined. Having a spouse will have effects on the campaign, as well, since married candidates have been historically shown to be more popular than single candidates, especially if they have children.
Then again there is the famous Edwards quote (Edwin Edwards that is,) “The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy”. The implication being that getting caught being gay is a very bad thing in politics, of course.
What’s here so far is great. In an update, you should cross out the options you’ve already selected on how to spend your free time in college. Other than that, marvelous.
If I select upper class and private university, I still get this text: "So you decided to attend the state university. The decision vastly more important than where you’re going to college, though, is what you’re going to college for. The major you select as your field of study will dramatically affect the development of your skills, so choose wisely."
Body is too similar to what you recently posted: No shit Sherlock, I had the wrong browser window open, the one drawback of of tabbed browsing combined with a fallible bit of gray human matter.
Fixed. Thanks for the continuing bug reports!
Sounds interesting so far
I am assuming we will be given a chance to sabotage other parties (and most likely be sabotaged as well)? Because politics and dirty dealings seem to go hand in hand most of the time (I’ll even argue it is in Politics 101)
The first few years are always the best, aren’t they? You just get to sit around, pooping your diapers, while other people make your meals and feed you, and if you want something all you have to do is cry!
This is just perfect. I really enjoy games in which the writers don’t mind stopping the flow of the story to insert little comments like this, and I’m not necessarily referring to comic remarks such as this one. I just feel that the difference between a good and an excellent game is in the details. It is in the capacity to take the due time to make remarks or give details such as that one. To me, it’s the kind of thing that really contributes to story immersion.
I really enjoyed the prologue, it was well written, the stats where very detailed and very promising. I just have two questions…
-
When can we select our ethnicity and our religion? Our ethnicity is given to us by birth, and our religion (or lack of it) is usually already defined when we go to college. I was just thinking if it wouldn’t make sense to establish those traits in the prologue.

At least in Europe (I’m Portuguese so I’m no expert in US political life), our life in college is very marked by politics. It is just the consequence of a combination of two things: the (sometimes controversial) importance of our party’s youth movements; and a proud and strong tradition of student activism. I was just wondering if wouldn’t be a good idea to give a little bit more investment in the college period as the beginning of our ideological development. Something that would affect the Political Spectrum stats very slightly, but that still affected them nonetheless. But then again, my political experience background is mainly an European one, in the USA things can work in a different way.
Great job. Congrats.
To be honest, for now, ethnicity and religion aren’t going to be selectable. That’s going to be something I’ll add in once the main body of the game is done, in addition to making your starting location affect things greatly. Right now, though, I just want to get the main game up and running, and once I have that, I’ll add in all of the less central character customization options, which will result in certain dilemmas or events depending.
As far as politics in American college goes:
Lots of college students in America are very politically active, and there are youth movements for both major parties and for the third parties, as well as general ideological youth movements such as the socialists. However, these youth movements don’t really have that much influence in your college life unless you decide to let them.
As for early development of your political ideology, I was going to develop that along with how your location will affect the game. Certain origin locations have certain political environments, and you will be able to choose in the prologue whether you conform to that political environment, or if you go against it.
For now, though, I’m only going to start allowing you to really change your political ideology once the politics get started.
Perhaps I should have a little thing right after college where you go through the various political dichotomies and give yourself a moderate boost to which side you prefer, or stay centrist.
Looking fantastic so far. I’ve been searching for an interactive game of this depth for a while. Do you have any time-scale for the release of the game? I understand it’s early days, but I’m really looking forward to it.
Asking for a release date is kinda against forum rules. Just a reminder.
Ah, my bad. I’ll remember that. Sorry!
Ha! Is it just me or does the opening scene remind anyone of Fallout 3? I love it!
And by the way, this is coming along very great. I only played through it once, but it seems that no matter what option you choose- in the less personal questions- that the same text would display on the next page. Is it always gonna be like that?
