I kept it vague on purpose as we will learn more about it in later chapters! Also, thank you for reading!
July Update
Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know I’m around halfway through Chapter 7B and I had an idea, but I’d like to ask for your opinions on it. I was wondering if in between chapters there could be short intermissions where it’s just some silly slice-of-life events with the Chosen One and the team before the MC came in. It’s just a little fun thing where it allows the reader to learn more about the Chosen One and give more depth to the team’s personality.
Other than that, it’s time to continue to write, thanks for reading!
Oooh yes please! That sounds quite lovely, and like you said, it’s a good way to learn more about the team :))
I appreciate your support! I will definitely implement these after every chapter
End of July Update
I am happy to announce that Chapter 7B is officially done! This chapter explores the aftermath of Anja’s death if that happens on Uri’s route. It’s around 20k words which makes the conglomeration of Chapter 7’s past 40k words already. At this rate, Chapter 7 A-D will be 80k words on its own!
This leads to another thought I had. It will most likely take another several months to finish Thursday’s content. I severally overestimated the size of these chapters and it made me think. Should I post Chapters 7 A and B very soon then? I’m not sure if the experience will be as great since most readers who are caught up will just read Chapter 7 and think “That’s it?” which makes sense since I like to approach each day as its own arc and Chapter 7 is only half of Thursday’s content.
I already made a post on the Tumblr blog, but I’d like to ask for your opinions for those that are in the forums as you are the main current audience. Should I post Chapters 7 A-B + some slice-of-life intermission stories + more flirting options within August? Or should I try to finish Chapter 7 C-D and the rest of Thursday’s content and post it all at once later (Most likely done in the Fall around October)?
I’m a bit tempted to just post what I have so far since I love to hear your feedback and comments, but I’m not exactly sure. I would love to hear your input on this in the replies. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you have a great day!
I would love to see what you got so far! Just to understand, what you say that are parts 7A and 7B are the paths were we choose to go with Sigma or Uri? What are the 7C and 7D paths?
Also I am very interested in the slice of life contents and more flirting. I am always down for more flirting, though I don’t know how I could make my MC’s romantic interest MORE obvious to Sigma - a lovely himbo, that’s what he is. Maybe she will have to spell it for him I also think there more calm moments between missions would be lovely, we didn’t have much time for that since we isekai’d.
Thank you for the answer! As for the answer to your question, Chapter 7 goes like this:
Chapter 6A happens if you went with Uri at the end of Chapter 5:
- Chapter 7A happens if you successfully saved Anja
- Chapter 7B happens if you don’t save Anja
- The outcomes of whether you get 7A or 7B depends on what you do in chapter 6A and earlier in the story.
Chapter 6B happens if you went with Sigma at the end of Chapter 5
-
Chapter 7C happens if Sigma survives the battle.
-
Chapter 7D happens if Sigma doesn’t survive the battle.
-
The outcomes of whether you get 7C or 7D depends on what you do in chapter 6B and earlier in the story.
Also, for Chapter 7, this is when romances can happen, if you don’t mind spoilers here’s what romance routes are after the divide.
- If you go with Uri and Anja lives => Anja’s Romance Route Unlocked
- If you go with Uri and Anja doesn’t live => Uri’s Romance Route Unlocked
- If you go with Sigma and Sigma lives => Sigma’s Romance Route Unlocked
- If you go with Sigma and Sigma doesn’t live => Ash’s Romance Route Unlocked
Some romances will be fast while other romances will be more of a slow burn.
Also, yes I will try my best to have more calm moments between missions. It’s a bit hard since the MC passes out so much, but I think I can add more calm moments in between (Seems like it’s a general consensus that it’s a rollercoaster, hopefully, Chapter 7 remedies that). I hope that answers your question and thank you for the reply! I will try to make the slice-of-life moments fun and the flirting enjoyable
Aaah understood. Oh my, I hope I don’t fuck it up on Sigma’s scene, I am not ready to see my baby dying .
And for the romances, the outcomes that you posted are the only way of entering a character’s route? For example, won’t be possible for the MC to romance Uri (not even in a later chapter) if we save Anja? Or romance Ash (later too) even if Sigma doesn’t die? If the those questions are much spoilery and you can’t answer it’s ok, I’m only curious for what will come next.
I don’t mind my MC passing out, especially if Sigma is there to catch her
Oh, you can play Chapter 6B with Sigma, it’s already out! I even added a tidbit of Chapters 7C and 7D, where you can see if he lives or not. If he lives, I even let the MC straight up admit their feelings to him which I think was a cute moment (and this time he can’t feign ignorance to it.) But also, that means there’s a chance where you can see him die also, which is pretty sad to read. If you need a guide on how to have a character live/die, feel free to ask!
That is correct! For example, in order, to romance Uri, you’re going to have basically end up sacrificing Anja . Although this question does bring up an interesting idea where, if you are romantically interested in a character, I’ll probably make it so you can casually flirt with other characters and have small jealousy moments for the RO.
Aww, that’s sweet!
I simply can’t wait for moorrree!!! I love that ending point, Alter ego and Sigma have to be my two favorite people. The fact that A.E started off with this hate towards MC and Now wants to protect them is just so damn wholesome. What really gets me is how in-depth each mission is, the backstories are amazing and they kept me in this constant state of ‘what now’ and ‘wow’. Especially finding out Abe was A.E trying to help. That was a plot twist that I hadn’t expected. I mean it wiggled in the back of my mind but idk, I was still shocked.
I didn’t even realize Kassan and Nova had sacrificed themselves, but once i did, I lowkey wanted to cry. Because I truly thought they’d stab us in the back, I even decked K in the face out of anger; I was thinking well I already know I can’t trust you so why not? But they proved me wrong.
When this is 100% completed I have a nagging feeling that it may just end up with the other highly rated Interactive fictions on Hosted Games (if you end up publishing it there).
Now onto game mechanics
I won’t lie, they’re perfectly fine from what I can tell but, I found myself a little confused on how they work and how exactly stats play a part in the story. Only because whenever stat checks took place(or what I assumed were checks), it didn’t seem like we actually needed to have any of the skills or personality stats boosted in order to pass them. For example, I had 0% wit throughout my whole game yet, whenever a quick wit checks took place, I passed. Same thing with the personality markers that would pop up, My MC would successfully portray the ones outside of the personality I maintained throughout the game. So yeah, i’m confused on that.
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it!
As for the game mechanics, I think for quick wits I made it so that if you had enough charm, you could also pass the check for that, so I’ll probably try to find a different word that mixes wit and charm to make sense of it. For the personality markers, I believe it’s based on your overall stats, and the choices your make constantly teeters the stat. So for example, if you spent a good amount of the story building more towards a serious stat, but then you choose an occasional sarcastic stat, the overall personality stat would still lean towards serious so your character would portray that. Though I think for your case there’s a possibility I misdirected the “>” inside the code, so I’ll probably have to look over that in the editing phase.
Skill check stats occur most of the time in fights (strength, agility, wits, and charm) though they are quite sparse. When you fail a check, it will lead either the suspicion / Alter Ego assimilation starts to go up, which will affect things later on. As for the personality stat, most of them are for flavor text to flesh out your MC. I hope that answers your question! Personally, I’m not a fan of writing skill checks since it sorta turns into a numbers game, so I’m not exactly sure what other way there is to approach it.
Also, I wanted to say again, thank you for reading my story and I’m happy you enjoyed it I’m happy that you’re a fan of A.E and Sigma and you found my story engaging, it’s really nice to hear that. As for Kassan, I don’t blame readers one bit for punching him in the face, I intentionally made him a prickly person to be around but also tried to give him a sympathetic backstory. It’s still wild that when people go in this route, there’s a whole other crazy mission that happens if you went with Uri instead.
Wow that’s a high compliment :0 I’m happy that you view my story this way!
Small August Update
I decided to release Chapters 7A and 7B. 7C and 7D are still in the works. Basically, life got super busy in July and August, but now I should be able to balance my life more so progress for those chapters should be immediate. For now, I’ll let readers read these two chapters which explore the two possibilities if you choose to go with Uri in Chapter 6 and the ending of that chapter. If Anja survives or not.
You can feel free to wait for all of Thursday’s content to come out or you can read it now, up to you. I shall get back to writing Also don’t be afraid if a character dies in Chapter 6A and restart, I think exploring what happens afterward is interesting! Hope you enjoy!
End of August Update
Hello everyone,
I am about 11k words into Chapter 7C so it should be done within the first two weeks of September with my current pace. My daily goal to write is about 1k-1.5k words per day, so I think all of the Chapter 7’s should be done by the end of next month! Chapter 8 will have some elements of convergence to it, so Chapter 8 will be hefty, but all of the variations from Chapter 7s will be incorporated into it. So Chapter 8 will be beefy, but the battle with Marfak won’t require me to make version ABCD which means it should be fine. Chapter 8 is projected to be around 25k-40k words. Anyway thanks for reading and I hope you have a good one!
Hello everyone, I am in the midst of adding more flirting options and intermission scenes to the story. So hopefully, characters will have more downtime in between. However, I would like to ask for some advice on writing flirting scenes. The issue I’m having is that in Chapters 6 A/B the main character does spend a good amount of time with potential ROs. However, if I were to incorporate flirting opportunities in there, would it not clash with the tone? I’m open to suggestions on possible flirting/romance scenarios that fit the context of the story.
Another point is I would like to ask about how people would feel about making Alter Ego a secret romance option. (Would that be weird?) [Wait I just realized something, ignore this ]
Also, I am curious to hear some thoughts about Chapters 7A and 7B. I would like to know about how readers feel about Anja and Uri after those chapters. Anyway, thanks for reading!
I have yet to read the new update, though as soon as I do, I’ll be sure to tell you my thoughts about it :))
I’ll be rereading the story as a whole, as I usually do, and I’m quite looking forward to interacting more with the team (Uri in particular). If you have any specific feedback you’d want, please do say so and I’ll do my best to try and give it.
In general, I do like when stories have flirting options, and I think you could very well include some without the tone clashing when we are with the team in a more casual non-life-threatening scenarios. It may even help the player get more attached to a certain character as it gives a chance to see another facet of them we could not see otherwise.
My only “issue”, and I use quotation marks cause it’s not really an issue more a thing that I think may be worth considering, is that in game, we only know these characters for a couple of days, which is usually not enough IRL to turn to a person and be like “hey let’s date”. Now of course, I don’t think flirting must automatically lead to a full-on romance, but there’s an expectation when one plays these sorts of games that, by the end of the story, we should be able to date one of the people we can flirt with. So this made me wonder, will we, by the end of the game, be able to enter a relationship with the ROs? Mind you, I would be pleased with just the opportunity to flirt without an “endgame”, especially due to the time constraints of the story, though I also understand why some people might not enjoy the game as much if that happens.
I hope this wasn’t confusing, I’m trying to say something but I’m really not sure if I’m quite putting it into the right words :p.
:0 You read the whole story every single time? That’s amazing, in that case, I would recommend maybe for you to wait for the big update coming out in the fall with all of Thursday’s content and extra scenes sprinkled in the other chapters! That way it’d be worth rereading from the beginning! I’d like to thank you for being a continuous reader, it’s readers like you that motivate me to keep going
This question has such a loaded answer haha, all I can say is that it’s a bit complicated (?) I will try my best to explain it, but it will contain some spoilers so be cautious [even now I won’t reveal everything in the blurb] => MAJOR SPOILERS: So chapter 10, the last chapter for Friday’s content is only the halfway point of the story. (It’s also the reason why I kinda made the days go by so fast since I know there’s more room to establish characters later on) A lot of things happen afterward, but I think with the ROs something will happen to cause them to care for the MC, but it’s more of a strong bond (that could have romantic aspects in there) Though, I think at the beginning of the story, I established that the MC won’t stick around for long so technically, they could form a relationship at the end but due to circumstances, it won’t last.
Not confusing at all! I really appreciate you taking the time to make this response, I’ll try my best to finish Thursday’s content so that your rereading experience is pleasurable!
My memory is kind of bad and I hate reading a story while feeling like I’m missing pieces of it, so yeah, I end up reading everything again ahah.
Will do so! Looking forward to it :)) No rush of course, please take your time and be sure to take breaks!
Ooooh very interesting. I’d an inkling the player’s story would not yet be fully done by Friday, but for it to just be the halfway point…well, consider me rather intrigued.
Mhm, this was why I was also wondering what the plans were for the endgame relationship, be it romantic or platonic in nature. I can already see myself getting sad about it (though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, a good story is riddled with all kinds of emotions after all). Guess I’ll just have to wait and see though :p.
And I would like to thank you for sharing this story with us, especially since it’s no easy feat to share one’s work with the world to judge. It’s been quite a joy to read it, and I hope you have as much fun writing it as we have reading it.
oh man okay I’ve had this WIP open on my tab for months now and I’m only just now finding out that it’s so good??? Love the humour and the rest of the team is lovable as well. Well done!
Well I chose Sigma, largely because I thought “a necromancer and a poison demon teaming up? yikes that sounds like a job for The Chosen One™” (totally not because he’s cute) (totally unbiased lol)
I want to try both routes but I accidentally messed up the saves so Uri’s route will have to wait
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words, I’m glad you like the team, I tried my best to make them likable while trying not to ‘force’ the reader to like them haha (I am curious though, which path did you take on your playthrough at the end of chapter 5
)
Mid-September Announcements
Hello everyone,
I am nearing the end of finishing Chapter 7C. Although midterms are coming up, hopefully, I can juggle it with Chapter 7D. However, a part of me just wants to jump straight into writing Chapter 8 since Chapter 7D is just so vastly different from 7A-C. Oh well, hopefully, I figure it out. These chapters have been getting quite long. I also want to thank everyone again for reading Remnant: Twenty One. It’s your kind words that keep me going so I really appreciate you all!
PS:
I was thinking of revamping the forum post to get a slightly bigger reach. Perhaps it’s my synopsis that could use some work. So I’d like to ask for everyone’s opinion on who’s read the story, what are some good selling points for this story? Should I add more to the character bios? Would fancy artwork help? I’m open to suggestions!
