Wonderful! I’m extremely exicited to meet all of them. Two small things:
The CIA didn’t exist in 1938. Although American foreign intelligence prior to the creation of the OSS is really kind of murky, the FBI is a safe bet to organize this sort of thing. This brings me to my next point…
If the FBI actually had evidence that it was dealing with gays and lesbians, they would be doing backflips with joy. Blackmailing people due to their sexuality was one of the core principles of Hoover’s career. Obviously, I doubt think anyone in their right mind would be comfortable with actually doing this in the game, but the FBI would definitely take great note of it.
I’m being a little more flexible than is strictly historically accurate when it comes to 1930s attitudes to sexuality, but your point about the FBI has been noted!
Also, the SAS didn’t exist in 1938. See, this is what happens when I get excited about something I’ve written and post it before I do a full fact-check!
Hm… Very interesting rivals for the next game! Looks like there will be some sort of competition and our poor MC is being roped by the US to be their main hope? Should make for a fun time!
Stalin didn’t tolerate homosexualism. If the Americans know Merisha is a lesbian then Stalin would know too. While homosexualism between woman were not outlawed, they would be sent to mental health institution to “be cured”.
As mentioned earlier, same sex relationships are a bit more visible and public in this version of the 1930s than in the real 1930s, for reasons of representation;
There was a certain amount of toleration of supposedly “deviant” behaviours when it came to people close to the top of the political hierarchy (and Sabitova is very well connected). See, for instance, Beria, who stayed at the top for decades despite Stalin actually knowing that he was basically a pedophile serial killer! The rules don’t always apply so strictly to those at the top, especially in the USSR …
Love this game and I’m already excited for the sequel. I am a little concerned about being tied to the US government though. My mc for this game is more of a self insert than normal for me in a choice game, and my loyalty is to truth first friends second and the world as a whole. Any form of group think like patriotism makes me queasy. I don’t have a problem traveling on Uncle Sam’s dime so long as I’m not shoehorned into any flag waving heroics.
Don’t worry, it’s not a patriotism thing. You start the quest for your own reasons, and early on you learn that Uncle Sam would prefer you to win, and is willing to lend you some limited assistance. You’re not really working for them.
Interesting if i could make a suggestion about Brother Ambrose since what we know of as special forces didn’t exist until later in the forties how about he was a sniper in the British expeditionary force during the first world war. The time would match up for the age difference and those guys were damn near special forces material to begin with and it would make sense for the stoic aspect of the character. Also as a personal question any plans for the pacific Islands to make an appearance as I’ve always been a sucker for the Philippians in games and there are some very interesting topics that could be touched on in particular regards to the idea of colonialism and how it impacts the inhabitants society.
