"Relics of the Lost Age" Post-Release Discussion Thread

I finally finally got the best ending in the Congo. I played the whole game for the first time and it’s SO good.

Congrats on Congo! That’s a hard-won achievement. I’m so happy that you enjoyed it!

Not sure if this belongs here, but i just wanted to bring it to your attention that the game isnt available as standalone app in the google playstore for me with a german ip adress. Guess google thinks nazis are not allowed to be mentioned in germany XD

On another note the story is great, just finished my first playthrough.

Oh, thanks for letting me know! I’ve had somebody else who mentioned that they were from Germany saying that the app link wasn’t working for them, so I wonder if that’s the issue?

I tested it with a vpn and the link worked, so im pretty sure its the, location.

Love the game and both the history and the Indiana Jones themes.

@Schliemannsghost In chapter 3, what is the correct combination to prove that blues dude didn’t steal the amulet? As much as I want to be a super-sleuth, I’m just horrible at this kind of stuff.

There are a few different ones, the two I’ve noticed are:

  • The account of the security guard’s injuries: He heard a noise in one of the sections of the museum and went inside to investigate, but he was bludgeoned from behind. How did the person who was supposedly inside that section teleport outside and bludgeon him from behind?

  • The “Hail Satan” written on the floor of the museum, and the fact that the blues singer signed his name with a X at the precinct, indicating that he was illiterate. Clearly he could not have written Hail Satan if he was illiterate.

The illiteracy thing is how you work out that it can’t have been Elliot. The security guard’s injuries is use for a different deduction. That’s how you work out that there had to be at least two people involved in the break-in: one to make the noise in the gallery, and a second to sneak up behind the guard and knock him out.

@Schliemannsghost I can’t believe it took so long for this question to arise for me, but do you have any specific Chinese characters thought out for Jian Zhu?

Finally finished reading and I absolutely fell in love with it!

First, what makes this story stand out to me the most is its episodic nature - it works so well for this kind of story, imo. I like how each chapter/adventure focuses on a different cast of characters, letting us get to know the recurring ROs better AND feature memorable side characters as well! (I absolutely love Stevo ) Another part of this design, which maybe is purely subjective, is how I feel each chapter has its own distinctive tone to it? For example the Tibet chapter had a strong hopeless survival vibe to it, the Congo chapter was genuinely tense and tragic, while the London one I felt was almost comedic xD. I think it really makes each adventure more memorable.

Second, I loved the general cheeky vibe to some of the fragments  The many easter eggs, if I’ve recognized them correctly - Indiana Jones (obviously), Ace Attorney? xD, some Monty Python I believe, loved it! I also really liked the idea behind featuring puzzles for the player to figure out, the best one imo being the one in the London chapter, with the clock. Not extremely difficult but still very entertaining - made me actually write relevant stuff down on a separate note xD

And then there is María García Pérez - I love her so much xD And I know this story is not supposed to be focused on romance but thank you, Dear Author, for letting me use my MC to live out my fantasy of having a UST-charged game of passionate one-upmanship with my rival during a dance, and a waltz no less xD. That and the dialogue during was genuinely the most hilarious scene in this story, I adore it xD

One question which I have is related to the MC’s ethnic background - during the game, there are several options of remembering different Grandpas and I believe they’re supposed to correspond to different ethnic roots of the MC? But I don’t remember a choice of picking one, so I think I must have missed something - a hidden choice/stat, perhaps?

All in all, I absolutely love this story and already can’t wait for the sequel! Thank you for writing this gem!

You can choose ethnicity by telling Sam in the first chapter that you are not an “Aryan”. Then you get to choose ethnicity by choosing grandpa.

Oh, ok! Thank you, must have missed it somehow. Will remember for future playthroughs

First of all: Congratulations with the release:laughing::laughing:
At first I don’t think I fancy this game before when it’s still a wip because archeolog/historical/somethingancient means a lot of reading (I’m sorry my historical teacher) but now I can’t get enough of this.

Second: Actually I’m here to ask for enlightenment how to make Zhu to survive Hong Kong?!?!?! Why he kept on dying even though it’s said he won’t die but useless for the night (if I’m not remember it wrongly) Is he hate me that much?

Thank you for making this great story:heart::heart::heart::heart:

I think if you don’t let him go alone against Colonel Kao, he will survive.

Umm… I’m not.

Thanks everyone, lots for me to get to here!

@ct1618 Do you mean have I worked out how to write his name in Chinese characters? If so, then no: I wouldn’t even know how to do that, I’m afraid!

@elvenbean Thanks, I’m very pleased you enjoyed it! And yes, the grandfather choice arises during a dialogue choice with Sam in Chapter 1, as mentioned above.

@Crow_Ainsworth Thank you! As for Zhu, there are a couple of ways to save him. One is to go with him to take down the colonel. The other is to persuade him to abandon revenge and come with you after the Relic. That’s a complex check. It’s mostly based on how much Zhu likes you, but there are a few factors that can make it easier. If you have a high Charm score, that helps (how much it helps depends on how high your Charm is). If you’re in a relationship with Zhu, that helps a lot. If you told him in the previous night’s conversation that one way to become a better person was to be loyal to your friends, that helps a little. If you pass the test, he will agree to abandon his quest for revenge and to help you instead, and thus get away alive.

for this game and the second one will there be anymore poly romances besides the obvious one. Also on an unrelated noted the allies often called the mg42 “Hitler’s buzzsaw” because of its loud whirring sound. While I know the game specifically talks about the mg34 in the Congo scene but the two guns dont sound all that different. I’m only saying this as while I liked the description you gave to the mg34 I felt like it was a little wordy. I more importantly thought you might find the tidbit interesting if you didnt already know it.

Also you mentioned you were an ancient historian. Any particular era or time period or just all things ancient.

I’m going to keep quiet about how the new ROs will work for now (partly because I haven’t fully worked out all the details myself!), but the sequel is currently in active development, so I’m sure details will emerge soon! Thanks for the mg34 info (I’m not really a gun person, so most of what I know about that stuff comes from Wikipedia!) I’ll take another look at the description of the gun and consider changing it in the next update. As for my specialism, I mostly work on Roman stuff, especially the eastern part of the empire.
