"Relics of the Lost Age" Post-Release Discussion Thread

Oh I know, those people don’t bother me. My favourite one so far is “They is not a pronoun!” Which is just objectively, grammatically false. What do they think it is, a verb?

Which is funny to me, seeing as how the game’s customization lets you be straight as an arrow and white as a blizzard if you want to be. What you’ll likely see in some other reviews, @Schliemannsghost, is what happens on every single historical re-interpretation known to mankind; people bitching it isn’t historically accurate.

I can’t wait till these people get to Chapter 3!!! I’m hunkering down and bracing myself!

Instant purchase for me! I absolutely adoooore swashbuckling, treasure-hunting adventures!

I’m always curious to an author’s process–how did you do your research on the locales and history? I’d love it if you have bits of trivia to share!

I’m diving into the game right after I post this comment. Woo!

I’m actually an academic ancient historian in real life (not quite an archaeologist, but not too far away!), so I do have access to an academic library, which helped with some parts. Other parts are mostly Wikipedia and making stuff up and, in the case of Chapter 1 at least, stuff I know about already from my day job. In terms of locales, it’s a mixture of places I happen to know irl (Jerusalem, London and, to a much lesser extent, New Orleans and Hong Kong, both of which I’ve visited once), and reading and imagination (Tibet and Congo). So a big mix of stuff: some chapters definitely took a lot more research for me than others!

Man, all you academics have the coolest jobs for sure! I’m sure I’m romanticizing the job a bit, but being able to just immerse yourself in your passion and spending your time learning all you can sounds so fun!

Speaking of fun, I’m definitely having it right now. I’m grinning with every page turn–it’s exciting! I also love your writing style. It’s very evocative and vivid!

Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy it! And yes, I can’t really complain about my job, though there is a part of me that would love to just give it all up and write Choicescript games full-time, even though I know that would never be viable!

At my first playthrough I decided to become a selfish prick who craves fortune and glory. Too bad I didnt get all the girls :frowning: Anyway, congratulations for making such a wonderful story! I’m gonna go ahead with my second playthrough and hope to get Cleo this time. Kinda disappointed that I didnt end up with Maria, I hope it will be possible in the sequel.

It will! In the first game, I didn’t want to make a Nazi-aligned character romanceable, but in the sequel she’s cut her Nazi ties so she’s become a viable RO. I hope she’ll be worth the wait!

I wonder how many characters are actual romance options that will last to the end? I mean, is it because I was antagonistic towards Zhu so he ended up dying? Or nevermind that, I wish I could romance Steve. And I thought Cleo wasn’t an actual romance option because I thought she’s not one of the four romance options mentioned in game’s introduction so I didn’t try…

When I played the demo on June my MC ended up with her. You just need to have good principles I think in order to be with her?

In the first game, two out of the four ROs can potentially die. There’s going to be at least one possible RO death in the sequel, although the sequel also introduces some new ROs to balance out all the possible deaths! And Cleo is the “passionate archaeologist” in the game description.

Amazing game! I’m a long time COG fan and this one is really up there in the top rankings, I’ve greatly enjoyed it so far and anticipate doing various different runs (it also makes me want to have an Indiana Jones marathon!)
Hopefully it’s not considered cheating, but any hint as to what route ends up with Zhu not being crushed to death? Haven’t been able to figure that path out yet lol

Thanks for your comments, I’m so pleased you enjoy it.

Zhu always dies in Tibet, unfortunately. But, as you may find out at a later point, something as small as death is not necessarily going to slow the formidable Jian Zhu down…

Ooh thanks! I suppose Sam and I will be friends forever… Just finished Chapter 3 and I really like the change of tune to a little mystery!

Played during the demo, and damn, that Congo siege is still just as asskicking as it was before. I’ve never gotten the best outcome even once. Any tips?

Just play to your strengths and you’ll do fine.

Tips for Congo:

Both the South and North gates are always going to fall - but you can determine how long they hold by decisions you make. Keep them standing for as long as possible, because all the time they hold, your forces are constantly picking off the Nazis outside the walls, which means that you’ll have to deal with fewer baddies when they finally breach the gates. To keep the South Gate standing as long as possible, send it strong leadership (Cleo is the best, Sam is OK, Jeff is weak: prob send both Cleo and Sam south and keep Jeff with you, especially if you have poor shooting, as Jeff can help you pick off the truck drivers later). Also a good idea to reinforce it when you’re asked. In terms of preparations, setting up the big gun on the wall is pretty devastating to the enemy, especially in combination with the lights: that’s a very powerful combo, that will see you shooting fish in a barrel with a machine gun! Other than that, just make sure that you pick the personal role which suits your best stat, and cross your fingers. All this will help you get the best ending!

@Schliemannsghost would it be possible to apply save in every chapter? Some sort of pitstop since the chapters are quite long and replaying might be a hassle.

Not a bad idea. I’ll give it some thought!
