Thats weird, last time I iused those I got an unbeatable record

Well, I decided the only recourse was to be rude to the fr*nch and that gave me the boost to get over 130 when those stats where added together

Btw if anyone’s wondering why being cold to Lucas boosts your stats at all it’s because I take it as indicative of your future interactions. If you say you’re there to work and not make friends you’re more likely to spend time studying rather than socializing in the future. So being distant in that moment doesn’t boost your stats, but being focused and less social in the months to come does. At least that’s how I envisioned it.

This was so useful :folded_hands::folded_hands:but do you or anyone know if it’s possible to get the unbeatable record starting at 8

Hey so totally unrelated to the last post is their perchance plans for a cheat mode….:pleading_face:

No plans for a cheat mode currently. You might be able to fiddle with stats and variable on the back end if you really want to, but I’m not sure how to do that and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it as it might break things.

ctrl shift c

stats.(stat you want to change) = (number you want to change it to)

if you only mess with the 4 main stats things won’t break. Don’t change things you’re unfamiliar with and you’ll probably be fine

Ah damn.oh well tho as much as I love the cheats I hate the cheats so….great game either way (top 5 expected easily) really interesting so far but I did look thru and I didn’t see anyone ask this so sorry if this has already been asked but
1.have you considered making a notification like (adaptability +2) after a decision not a major thing just a quality of life thing understandable if that would be to much coding
2.could you possibly add a decision to be more like wagnar (not copying them but being like how they are now)you know like sacrificing leadership and/or reputation for adaptability and leadership

I think that’s it all I can think of atleast

Thanks for your interest and kind words. I’m glad you’re enjoying my work! As for your questions:

  1. I doubt I’ll add notifications. Not because its too much work (though that would play a role) but because I think it takes you out of the narrative. I understand that the game element of interactive fiction is a big part of what makes it fun (Hell, I’ve spent hours “optimizing” runs on things like Lords of Infinity) and showing stat changes would make that easier. However, I think if every time you pick something there’s a notification that pops up, it kind of takes you out of the story. The fact is that you’re meant to be playing as a character in a story, not just trying to make your stats go up. We’ll see though, if people really want it I might consider making it an option you can toggle. I know other authors have done that.

  2. Honestly, if you’re playing as a high intelligence and adaptability cadet with low leadership, congratulations you’re kind of already running a Wagner build. That seems to be the “meta” right now too, though that might change when I drop Chapter 3…

1.alright fair and uh yea Ben their…

2.and yea also fair (I would be included )I was more asking if their could be a decision that would be like “I remain studying instead of socializing”(not that wording obviously)that would increase int/adapt but minus leader/rep understandable if it would change to much (tbh I was kinda stretching for a second question since I saw so little problems so good on you)

Thats very interesting considering I always somehow run a high leadership, high int build to act as a foil to Wagner. I assume being friendly and sociable with your peers pays off in the future?

Leadership as a stat is deliberately underused in the first two chapters to illustrate the Academy’s focus on more intellectual training and education. In Chapter 3 however you actually take command of a ship (or serve as the second-in-command depending on your record) which requires you to interact and lead real people. Real people who might not like the idea that their new CO is 12 years old. So yeah, leadership becomes significantly more important, though that is not to say intelligence and adaptability lose all their usefulness either.

Those enlisted men are so.. so.. dramatic. Its not like my 8 year old cadet has only 31 leadership.

We don’t need charisma when we got skill. Except when there’s boarding actions or ground patrol, then we entirely depend on our crew to protect us and that’ll take some convincing

Hello everyone! It’s the first of the month, which means it’s time for a progress report.

I’ll start by saying this: I am completely done writing Chapter 3, and it clocks in at just over 80k words. That’s even after cutting some content and moving it to what will become Chapter 4. What’s more, I have also finished the rewrites I mentioned last month and recently completed my first draft edits. All that to say I still need to clean up the code, run a lot of quicktests, randomtests, and do a few actual playthroughs to get the thing functional and operating as intended, but after that you’ll finally have it in your hands.

I know it has been a long time since the last update, and I thank you all for your patience, but we’re definitely in the home stretch now. And hopefully Chapter 4 will be a little bit shorter, so it won’t take quite as long to pump that one out. But who knows, I’ve been wrong before!

As always, your support and interest means more than you can know. Writing this thing and seeing the engagement continue and grow has been a true joy. I cannot thank you all enough, and I hope to repay you with some fresh content here very soon.

I cannot wait to (hopefully) capture raptors and do… “under-covers” work with them.
