Officer of the Fleet (WIP)(~170k words)(Major Update 11/8/25)

Big if true

How long does the MC have to remain in the Military Academy? How many years is the curriculum? And it was mentioned that we could possibly be promoted to commodore after graduation directly if MC father pulled some strings could that happen if we remained undefeated with high marks and reputation?

I think this will cause resentment with the recruits if the MC doesnt showcase great skill and record in the academy

Read the last part again carefully before commenting.

Two years is the answer to both questions. It’s a short but intensive program. As for your third question: No. Commodore is still a ways off even if you’ve performed perfectly. The meta reasoning for this is that it would require an entire separate narrative branch and Chapter 3 is already very long. The in-universe explanation is that your father could pull some strings… he’s just not the type of man to do that.

I’ve mentioned already though that Chapter 3 does has two branches. One in which you become a Commander if your Academy performance was somewhat lacking, and one as Captain if it was above average. I know most players will shoot for the Captain path, but honestly I think the Commander one might be more interesting in some ways. So regardless of your assignment I hope you’ll enjoy stepping into the shoes of an actual officer of the fleet.

So, MC could canonically be a 10-year-old when they graduate. It would sure as hell be interesting to see the adults react to a literal kid ordering them around.:joy: You know, it would be cool if we could further customize the MC’s appearance, like if we could resemble our mothers’ appearance or the old man admiral. People could comment on us being younger mini versions of our parents. And the drama of us looking like the late MC’s mother and the way we reminded him of her. It’s a shame, though, that we won’t have that exclusive route just to showcase MC’s prodigious talent and exemption in the academy. Maybe one day you could add it and tie it into the story later.

As someone who has read Ender’s Game and the infinity series numerous times, I have enjoyed this game quite a bit and can’t wait for the other chapters. Apparently the previous updates were easier, well definitely not this one. I had to optimize so heavily to pass most of the checks XD (not that I mind, I love a challenge). I was wondering if we ever had Lucas or Tanaka as opponents during our academy days? For my character at least, Lucas would be so upset having to face 2 perfect record holders XD let’s see what else, I did notice a few typos but its fine and finally….I was shocked that London Bridge didn’t fall down :laughing:

Hey, thanks for reading! As someone who also has spent more than a bit of time rereading Ender’s Game and the infinity series, it’s always nice to see that I scratched that itch for other people. I’m also glad the balancing felt challenging, that’s what I’m after. Challenging but fair.

As for facing Lucas/Tanaka, I never really considered that possibility. It might be fun to add that. I’ll give it a look when Chapter 3 is done. Also, if you remember what those typos were please let me know, it’s always better to catch them early, and I’m sure the London Bridge has been renovated a few times in the last 150 year lol. Thanks for reading and happy to have your feedback!

I was joking. In most apocalypse scenarios (like alien invasion) London bridge often falls due to the song. I remember a couple typos in chapter 2 but couldn’t remember where. Well, here are the most noticeable results after putting it through a spell checker:

Label home- earth choice. says the agility not to instead of the ability not to

before label parents- the basic out of the way needs an s

label parents- admiral and military choice need an r, for your father and your parents

after parents choice- palm of you hand. why do your want

walk along riverside choice- has yours eyes instead of your eyes

movie choice- collative instead of collective

-i try to hone my ability choice- you forces yourself

right before choice 1- sieze the imitative

Chapter 2

-under no, this isn’t worth my time- chaisng after ridiculoust stories

if fatigue >=60- your try

i didn’t use things that sounded phonetically the same. I could’ve sworn there were more on chapter 2 but, i couldn’t find anything significant.

Happy October everyone! It’s a new month, which means it’s time for an update.

Let’s start with the good stuff. I have almost finished writing Chapter 3, and, sitting currently at just under 73k words, it is a big one! I suspect I will be done writing it within the next week or so.

However, that doesn’t mean you’ll see it that soon. After I’m done, I need to do some fairly substantial rewrites, organize my code, make my code functional (it’s a mess right now) troubleshoot, and then proofread and edit. I have family and friends that help with this, but it’s still a grueling process that takes awhile.

So, all that to say that (again) we are getting close to Chapter 3’s release, but still a bit away. As always, I appreciate you coming along for the ride, your insights, patience, and support! Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them!

I think a Mars-Admiral MC is the best Adaptability-Intelligence Build, but… the stats are hard to for the MC to board Wagner’s large training vessels, the MC needs a total of 170 in stats of Intelligence*2 and Adapability how does anyone reach that level of stats?

Mars parents own a mining ship is actually better if your ignoring leadership

But MC being the child of Admiral has a lot of lore potential.

Aside opening a lot of opportunities for the MC, there is going to be a lot of story revolving around this.

Should I reveal my strat?

Don’t go Mars, go Earth. 18 years old and Admiral. The best I have come up with is to get intelligence as high as possible and leave it as a neutral stat. Leadership can get the big -40% and adaptability gets the +40% then train in all 3 skills. focus on your own battle to get +2 int and adaptability at the cost of Lucas relationship. Being cold to lucas is the best. this is how I got the highest stats I could. Lucas gets the shaft though.

It all depends on what stats you think are important and how you want to build your MC. Currently any build can reasonably beat wagner but it is impossible to beat her in all 3 stat checks so realistically you can just focus on 2 stats of your choice and have one be mediocre.

It is hard to do boarding action stat check

Honestly its been a while since I played but isnt boarding actions a leadership stat check? I’m not too sure.

It is an adaptability and intelligence check if i remember correctly.

12 years old + Mars + Admiral Father
Read the book for more intelligence
“I want to make my father proud. Or at least live up to his expectations.” {for Rep increase}
Be Cold {sorry…uh whatever your name was, for more adaptability}
“I hope we get some hands on experience. Knowledge is one thing, application is another.”
Choose intelligence as your strength, and leadership as your weakness
Go do the simulations
Make a strategy, then go to sleep (you dont need to do the other preparations)
Utilize the torpedo strategy and catch him off-guard.
I will take over the dreadnought Stalwart and leave the rest up to the AI.
Dont tell the french fry anything
Choose to increase your leadership, your reputation should give exxtra leadership
Just wander, enjoying the moment.
Practice commanding such a large fleet.
Host a party
I am done preparing. I relax for the rest of the week.
Blow the asteroids apart and shatter her fleet.
This is a trap, and I will not fall for it.
by this point, you should be able to board successfully
Stats should be 70 Int, 62 Adaptability, and 46 Leadership

I just can’t get an unbeatable record. I had 68% intelligence and 60% adaptability and I was only in the top 10!
