October 2022's Writer Support Thread

Well they seem like lovely people. The orcs I mean, not the elves. What’s their opinion on other foreign foods?

I feel weird showing up here on the last week of October. But I’m hoping to start a “new” project in the next few days. I somewhat dread it because I’m terrible at writing openings. So that’ll be fun.

hope everyone is having better time than me. I am trying to get prepared to the big fail I will have the last day this month.

And I am trying to not fall into a big depression spiralling out of control. My jam has been a great failure and I have failed to make an event that helped people.

I am a terrible hostess, and that caused the event to fall. I learned the lesson and I won’t try another event anymore.

I was naive and stupid to think a person like me could make a viable event. Events are for popular and cool people not clowns like myself.

Sorry to all of you for let you all down. I am really sorry, Cog fforum deserves better than someone like me.

It’s ok you shouldn’t blame yourself for things going wrong especially when it’s your first time hosting such a event

It is my third

It’s your first big one right? You second one had less authors signing up because of COVID if I remember right. Ah I was thinking of Saint Valentine’s one

first one had 20 entries, The Halloween jam 2020. Then the Saint Valentine’s jam had one.

This one have none so far and nobody wanted to test their games so I assume there is no game.

I did a terrible job and failed to make people inspired and trying to write something. I failed to the forum.

I’ve written a game for your jam, I just didn’t see much activity on your post, so assumed I’d just wait till the 31st to send you a link. Until then, I’m just polishing it, it’s kinda small anyway so I figured it would get naturally tested once it’s public.

You didn’t fail

Thanks for participating even if I am a bad hostess. :hugs:

I agree. @poison_mara , you didn’t fail, and you’re not a bad hostess! I’ve been a bit (very) off due to personal reasons, but I do have a game that I will hopefully have time to polish just a little before the deadline.

Edit: Another thing, @poison_mara - your jam inspired me enough to create my first game ever, it got about six times larger than I imagined, and now I really want to write more. I have you to thank for me finding inspiration this early, otherwise I would have procrastinated even more starting to write and code a game. So your jam means a lot to me.

Sorry, for being too active and that. but I wonder if anyone wants to join me in a small encouraging writing group for this Nanowrimo. Nothing Mayor just place to post our results, advices and just chilling to try to beat the Nanowrimo dragon!

In a forum thread? I’d be interested! I’m going to try and make the word count on my WIP and get this chapter finished in so doing, so I’d be glad to follow other people in their progress with it, too!

In a forum thread and in a discord server. I think that a small discord server could give the privacy to people who are shy to participate in something, with less people and is more private they will feel better I think.

This exercise is for everyone mostly for people who is like me and have struggles in live and want to do something about it to better themselves.

I have anxiety disorder and depression and writing is with therapy one of pilars of my recovery. I am not 100% cured but I have improved a lot.

I want have fun with writing and other writers in a safe place that and show people who believes they can not beat their Nanowrimo dragon that they can!

Nobody will judge you in my group and nothing you write is silly or bad.

You can pm if you don’t want to publicly engage with the forum.

Cool! I’d be interested too! I’m planning on giving NaNoWriMo a go this year - seems like a great way to make some progress on my WIPs.

Thanks for organizing these little ways for people to get together and write @poison_mara

I am… out of the loop, sorry for my intrusion here! But what’s this about a writing group? I don’t participate in the NaNoWriMo stuff but a support group sounds lovely… :pensive:

You can be part of it even if not part of Nanowrimo!

However, I recommend you try something special for next month. Have a special goal for each day of November. Like write each day a small 100 words short story about a different prompt.

I can even give you promts if you want.

Nobody is out here, not even me! And everyone is welcome to my Group!

Well, I can certainly make the attempt! If nothing else, I’m happy to support everyone else in their endeavors. :grinning: Although, I’ve never really been a part of any sort of group thing… thus I will probably do more lurking. I’m terrible:joy:

Lurking is okay if you prefer. But your contribution can be valuable for others. Just try to participate when you feel pasionatte about the theme.

Hello, everyone!

October’s ended I managed to write up 6500 or so words for my new WiP I’ve been working on. It’s been a tumultuous month and I didn’t write anything for last week of the month, because I’ve been beating myself over how bad my writing is (though others don’t think it is). It’s especially terrible because I was so close to finishing the first chapter, but I’m constantly switching between just making a few corrections or cleaning off over six thousand words of progress.

Hi, hi, hi! I’m happy to say that I got to achieve my October goal and release the update of my demo: a 82k word chapter. It took almost a year to write, but for the readers I hope it was worth the wait and was an enjoyable read.
