Thank you for this great story, I just finished my first playthrough and the authors note in the end about children like nikola and the author between borders made me cry thank you for the representation of immigrants who come here to succeed but forever remain not from here and not from there, just in between. Beautifully written work and the sentiment is very appreciated.
Well, it took me a while to get to reading this game, but now that I’ve done it: I must say I really like this one. It reminds me of Choice of Robots (interestingly in that game I choosed Tesla as my MCs lastname, but that’s not only why this game reminds me of that older game). Anyway somehow I didn’t mind that my MC was kind of reduced to the sidekick role, it was still well written, enjoyable to read. It was kinda exciting to “invent” stuff like CPR machine or X-ray machine. Also I really like the actual historical references/events/issues which appeared in this game, they gave the feeling like this isn’t an entirely fictional world, while some other things sure were fictional (or more progressed than it should be in that era? Like some inventions came sooner than actually in history, for example the CPR machine, that gave me a Choice of Alexandria vibe, which is also a game I really like). I think the author managed to keep a right balance between history and fiction.
As for the romances (so far I’ve did Marions route) it wasn’t bad either… I guess in this game just like in Choice of Robots everything else is interesting enough that I would enjoy it even if there were no romances.
I found two continuity errors in one playthrough. First, Tesla confronted me with the bottle of morphine and demanded to know if I’d ever drugged him without his knowledge, even though I’d already confessed to doing that at the World’s Fair. Second, I got an epilogue with Tesla even though the New York Times reported that we burned to death in Wardenclyffe.
It’s best to send bug reports to support(at)choiceofgames(dot)com
so that they definitely get seen by CoG staff and can be processed - reports posted here can get lost in the shuffle.
Nikola Tesla confronting you about drugging him is definitely a continuity error. As for the end where you are supposed to die, it depends on whether or not you built underground tunnels. The place itself is guaranteed to burn down, but your life will depend on those tunnels.
Please submit error reports to support so we can get them fixed.
I finished playing this today and am shocked (pun intended) that it’s on an underrated list. It’s amazing! I loved how substantial it felt along with the characters being bold and exciting; I adored my love interest and was thrilled to find out more about him afterwards as a real historical figure. The choices were often tough and some parts were heartbreakingly intense. I really enjoyed the relationship between my character and Tesla, as complicated as it was at times, and it really felt like a journey through my character’s life through a winding and vivid alternate history.
