O did you find out if we can just be gay ore do we have to be trans
Unfortunately that is not yet clear. The author has intended this game to be strictly Trans related, but might make it so you din’t have to be. Their not clear on that yet.
& @timevixen We will keep that in mind. We mentioned Two-Spirit more because it has been used as a gender, but we are making sure we research everything we can before adding anything in. If it is too delicate/hard/anything else similar, we will probably not add it in.
I have some concerns about whether this game will be able to properly and appropriately be an educational one. I respect the effort (especially because I’m NB) but it feels like the game is trying to be a everyday-life sim with a trans identity topping. I haven’t looked at the author link yet so I could be wrong, but that’s the vibe I get off of it.
(And this is just a nitpick, but the terminology used in the summary is different from what I’ve seen used, aka AFAB [assigned female at birth] in my circles has always been used as a descriptor tacked on to a NB identity [“I’m an AFAB agender person”] or used to be inclusive to trans people for assigned-sex-based statements [“AFAB people, here’s a list of at-home menstrual cramp remedies”] so the idea of just being “AFAB/AMAB” as an an identity doesn’t make sense to me)
I think it’s a great idea , I’ve said at least once previously a game like alter ego where you can be trans would be great. Agree with the terms though, I’ve only heard of afab and such to describe people’s birth gender.
Also I think I saw the author wants the game finished by the end of summer? Well unless you want the game to be a rushed gimmicky game that’s not going to happen I’m afraid. The game sounds really detailed, which I really like. But to truly flesh out these details will take time, some authors take years to write their games, and to make the choices meaningful will take a lot of time and effort. This game sounds really ambitious, so I wish you both good luck .
Also I think a choice game is a good idea. There’s about 10 billion trans youtubers, and I personally know someone who has written a straight up book about their life, and whilst more trans experiences are always good of course, there hasn’t been anything like this published before, at least to my knowledge, and the immersion of a game is something a novel in some ways can’t achieve if you get me?
Excited to see all the options. Curious if you can go through highschool how I actually did…having loads of people bullying you then handing most of their arses to them ha! .
The deadline isn’t set in stone (obviously it couldn’t be), & we’re always thinking of anything to change, the events that happen, ect, but we do like to give ourselves deadlines (for instance, my game A Dog’s Life was supposed to be almost finished by December but then my computer screwed up.) We both understand the game may not be finished by then, but if we give ourselves a deadline (me especially), we’re less likely to procrastinate.
@CreepyPastaKittyFay Both me and the author were bullied during high school, so we’re not 100% sure how to write a positive experience for that. Since they don’t get online a ton of the time (in terms of using social media I mean), I’m always reading post on facebook groups for experiences to put in the game.
& I do want to publish a book, but when I introduced them to Choice of Cat, they saw this as a super opportunity to make an educational piece of writing that is interactive, possibly not as confusing, and geared towards people who might have trouble staying focused on a book but might have better luck with a choices-matter game. I offered to help them since they have no knowledge of choicescript, so it’s a win-win for both of us ^^
& @leo It is kind of a lifesim where you’re a trans person, but there’s a ton of educational stuff packed into it. Kind of hard not to make it a lifesim considering the program and our own writing styles. We’re planning on including tons of links for various websites that talk about the terms, the items mentioned in the game, & anything else relating to this
Well there is a thread about bullying on here…somewhere. I’m sure someone who is better at finding threads than me could link to it . I’d say I’d be willing to help, sharing more of my experiences etc but I’m pretty detached so… But I would love to be a beta tester though
.
Alpha testers must join the forum listed above for now and read the rules first. Do that, and we’ll happily send you the password for the game. When there’s more done, we’ll make it public on DashingDon
This game reminds me of Wandering Son(a manga and anime of course), In the manga and anime, the friends had a falling out as they prepared to enter middle school, but they eventually repair their friendship. Also, the main character of Wandering Son wrote a novel when he was in college. Maybe we can add those to the game.
Well as a writer (one of the general degree jobs), you get the option to write books on the side of your job (most likely a publishing editor or something like that) and those can earn you extra money every month.

Where is the public link for A Tran’s Life?( Also maybe you can add the Basketball club for High School Sports and College Sports for a career in basketball).
Forgot about basketball XD & it’s on the top post (the initial one)
My suggestion: I would probably cut the part in the intro in which you state that being trans is more difficult or harder than being gay/lesbian. Mainly because it doesn’t seem necessary to me. Both identities aren’t mutually exclusive and several players will probably want to play a gay character anyway. Rather, I’d say that being trans can be challenging in different ways than, for example, being gay. And that this game specifically intends to shine a light on those challenges which our trans MC will face.
That is a good idea.
…Wow, just wow…I thought this game was too ambitious, that you were attempting too much, proved me wrong! At least so far, hope it continues to be just as good
. I love the detail and all the info. Few things though: It’d be good to be able to just type our name after clicking none of these and also be able to pick our last name. Jelly up our toast? I am so confused xd. I’m English, and over here we think you yanks call Jam Jello(or is it jelly you call jello? no I’m sure it’s jam xd …so confusing), but you have a jam up the toast option to, so this bit could maybe be a bit clearer so none yanks get it…you Americans don’t actually put jelly, like the dessert we English call jelly on your toast do you?
.
Also for high heels maybe have an option for normal/casual high heels? Plus a bit more info would be great, it doesn’t say they’re your mother’s or sister’s, and since we can only pick clothes associated with our birth gender a bit of background info on your mum buying you them would be good.
Also wondering about our sex ed class? Are most classes in America that err…progressive? Just wondering as I went to a Christian school in the UK in a small village, so I’m kinda sheltered about certain things .
Apart from that noticed a few typos here and there, hopefully I’ll have time in the near future to do a more detailed playthrough to catch them all .
For people who chose a second ethnicity but couldn’t see it on the stats screen, that issue is now fixed!
@CreepyPastaKittyFay Ok so Jelly (like grape jelly) and Jam are different because Jam is typically thicker, & Jello is a bouncy jiggly type of sweet (I grew up in Indiana, so some terms might be different elsewhere). Jello is eaten by itself, Jam is usually put on toast for us, & Jelly is spread on bread w peanut butter or on toast by itself.
Anyone have other things they do w jelly & jam, please comment XD cuz I know elsewhere in the US it might be different.
& that’s really what the sandals are, casual heels. Let me finish the current middle school part, & I will update the last name & the clothing.
The school system is based off my own designed one, mixed with new systems popping up all over the world. Some things are progressive, & the classes you pick may have one student besides yourself, or might have 20 others. I hate how my schools were and do not want those reflected in this game >.< the author was homeschooled, so the school parts are entirely mine. They’re doing everything non-school
