I’ll admit, the MC is sort of out of their league in that fight and I couldn’t figure out what they could do to help that Rook and Bishop couldn’t do themselves.

I would like to thank the copy-editor with as much gratitude as I can, because they clean up my messy game the most. Though I do still have to do a little clean up myself, some of them are still left off and sometimes I just could not help it due to the coding.

I will keep this in mind when I write the next game, or update fixes for this game.

Wait… that’s not supposed to happen. You’re supposed to start with a regular suit, and you can buy the carbon nanotube suit afterwards.

Found and fixed.

Ah, yes. This is what I’ve been waiting for. I very much so value the feedback and constructive criticism. I have read them thoroughly and kept them in mind, and I’m glad you could enjoy the game despite it’s flaws!

The embarassing thing about the FBI side ending is the fact that it was rushed and I was racing against a deadline I’ve set for myself and in the end I felt as if I’ve written some superfluous scenes and basically wrote a bunch of ride-alongs. But I ended it off exactly how I wanted it to. Given the time, I would love to add a bit more to the ending beforehand, for Reville to fully explain the situation, exploring what The Archangels have actually done, and what the FBI has been doing to try and stop them, maybe even a bit of small encounter with them.

The game’s ending, as of it’s current state, is leaning more towards the criminal side, because that was what I had time to fully flesh out and work on. I had less time to work on with the FBI ending, and at the time I was pretty much drawing a blank. I will most definitely try to add a bit more content if possible for the next two update. I am very sorry for the rushed content, and I do very much so appreciate your patience.

Sometimes, silence can say more than words can carry, and sometimes it’s just cool to have a silent badass.

Did you turn on any cheats? Using cheats will cause your game to deactivate most achievements. (Except ending achievements)

And I’m glad you liked Gabriel! Apparently a lot of people like him …

EDIT: Gabriel was not meant to be romanceable, but due to popular demands, I had to make it so

And I thank you for that!

Also, I think I’ve come across a bug…? After I start a romance with Charlie, when I choose to hang out with him, the game takes me back. Same thing that was happening w/ Greg’s, I think. Or Charlie’s just ditching me because he knows he’s cooler than I am :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It’s nothing particularly major - just a bunch of literal line breaks (so a scene might start with a paragraph’s length of blank page before the text actually starts), so it’s an inconvenience at most. The example I gave from the shop was the only time I actually saw the code showing up in-game.

More thoughts

Apologies for the rambling in advance; I can’t consisely pinpoint my thoughts since I’m not entirely sure what is the root cause.

It does feel rushed, I admit. Not necessarily in the quality, but how it drops you into the ending scene, which contributes to the awkwardness I described. The way I read it was that I had expected another short scene and some time to pass before it dropped you into the ending. I suspect it was the introduction of Lieutenant Dan that caused this in part: it seems odd to introduce a new character (without any foreshadowing) one page before the ending and in such a “casual” way. Bartolomew Wayne was different, there was something interesting about him and his introduction so close to the end set up a pretty good hook. But his scene wasn’t the ending - it was Lieutenant Dan and Captain Flowers.

My reaction to the ending wasn’t disappointment or any type of negative emotion. I was fine with the bleakness of it all. Instead, it was bemusement at how that scene was what the game was going to end on. More explanation about the situation, an encounter with the Archangels, they would have been nice and appreciated, but I’m not sure whether they’re not entirely necessary.

I don’t want to presume to know what would work. But looking back at it, the scene where Mouse is alive but in a coma with the “Hang in there” choice and with Reville saying “All right, let’s go. I’ve got someone else I’d like you to meet.” feels like it should have been the ending. I might be entirely wrong, but there is a sort of “string of false finishes” (Waking up, Warehouse fire, VAMcorp, one-on-one with Bartholomew Wayne, Mouse’s bedside) in the FBI ending which brings down the actual ending and makes it seem more awkward than it actually is. I got the anticipation that it was going to end, but it didn’t end and continued, then repeat several times until it actually ended and I was left scratching my head.

I don’t mind the riding along with Reville as it is. Yes, it does seem like the PC is taken from one place to another with Reville, but I think that serves a narrative purpose. They’re in a bit of shock, the emotional fallout of losing their support network. They’re listless and goalless. Reville comes along and fills the role Gabriel used to, intentionally or not, and whether the PC is aware of it or not. Except, that Reville and the PC might be on a more even playing field than the PC-Gabriel relationship, since Reville could get fired.

I don’t know how the big the changes are in terms of game length from the divergence to the full-FBI route and the other. I think I expected the FBI ending to be a change of tone compared to the others, since it is the antithesis of the main draw, but I wasn’t sure how much shorter it would be. Playing it through again might give me a different perspective on the FBI ending.

I absolutely understand other constraints affecting the content, and it wasn’t a major downer at all - still hooked for the continuation, after all! I imagine the FBI informant ending was probably very hard to write, since it’s a sea change in both POV and atmosphere.

Edit: I did recall another bug. If you lie to Hayne about your background at the Ass Rocket, it doesn’t register that you’ve visited the bar. So if you meet Anna there afterwards, the text will still think you’ve never been there and you’ll have the whole intro spiel with Geoff.

Her check is around >140 so its really hard to pull off, almost impossible even but you can try and suffer like me!

Basically, get wounded often, don’t die and be silent like her.

I’d have rather had difficult rolls tbh. Plus I smuggled in a gun, killed the only other person with a gun, so imagine my annoyance at doing absolutely nothing when everyone else had nothing but knives?

But no worries, still enjoying the game so far.

Most line_breaks are inescapable due to in-game coding, but is there anything else formatting or clean up wise that I could do to improve the game?

Ramblings are still a good of a way for me to figure out what the problem is and to try and fix it. Thank you for the feedback!

Most of the things I wanted are there, just in weird places and the game does end off in a very weird way. I do plan on writing a bit more for that ending and hopefully finish off with a better tie off that can still be continued into the next part of the story in the second book.

Reville and the PC is supposed to be a much more grounded experience, since he is just an FBI agent with a few interesting background, while Gabriel is a mysterious criminal whose background are much more complex and is portrayed to be on a much higher level of experience. The difference between the two characters is what makes the two sides of the same coin feel different which makes it that much harder to write.

But this game wouldn’t be the same if it was easy to write :joy:

I’m going to have to refer to my co-author about that. I have no idea what’s causing this.

Oof, yeah, sometimes it just doesn’t give you what you want, sometimes it gives you some great, or something horrible.

You can change the difficulty if it becomes too difficult, or buy something that’ll increase your luck.

Ah, very well then. I’ll keep this in mind the next time I write for Rook and Bishop.

And thank you very much for reading the game!
